  1. Shane Hollander doesn't know what he is. He knows what he wants. For a long time, he tells himself those are different things.

Ilya Rozanov knows what he is. He can't control what he wants. For a long time, he tells himself those are the same thing.

They’re just boys who handle it badly—from a junior tournament in Canada to the NHL draft to the moment a security camera at the end of a hallway changes everything

  2. The phone rings and Shane startles, fists tightening in his hair as the sound grates against him. Ilya grabs the device from the counter above him and silences it, tossing it towards the living room and away from the tiny, careful bubble he's created. He watches as Shane's eyes close tightly, a small huff of rattling breath escaping him.

“How could there be a video?” He whispers, almost so quietly that Ilya nearly misses it. Maybe he wasn't intended to hear it in the first place.

Or: A sequel to Try, Try Again - the assault happened, Shane recovered, but when someone sends a link to an online video, their world is tipped upside down again.

Heed the tags! We get a bit more graphic in this one, again, I don't go into explicit detail of the assault, but it is referenced and opening scenes of the video are included. If you do not wish to do this to yourself because you like happiness, please, follow your heart and click away.

  4. “I’ve been thinking about doing something like this for a while,” Wiebe admitted. “Though originally I was going to reach out to an actress. Get a nice, pretty, girl next door type on his arm for a year or so. Straighten out his image just enough to get him back to ‘loveable bad boy’ instead of 'on the edge of being cancelled‘. But hey, now I can kill two birds with one stone!”

Shane Hollander is a working actor in need of some exposure to get his big break. Ilya Rozanov is an international rock star in need of a reputation boost after his latest scandal. The powers that be think a PR relationship between the two will get everyone what they want.

So begins a year long, very public romance as Hollywood's latest young 'it' couple. Can Shane survive the scrutiny that comes with fame in exchange for a shot at success? Can Ilya keep it together long enough to fulfill the contract? And will either of them make it to the end date without a broken heart?

Ilya’s rough days are made easier by Shane – even if he’s not there.

In a world where clothes and other belongings hold power, especially if they are handmade, Shane has more avenues of taking care of Ilya than his mere presence.

Ilya Rozanov was starting over. His mother was long dead, his father had finally passed, and his brother didn’t want him around anymore. Moscow was nothing but dead bodies and fading memories and scars that just wouldn’t heal.
    Enter Shane Hollander.

  7. When the MLH announces all games are cancelled for the rest of the evening, Shane Hollander knows something is weirdly wrong. There's no precedent for it in league history. A string of messages from Ilya and a phone call from his mother confirm the worst: something has happened, and he doesn't know what.

The Centaurs plane crash is serious. In the aftermath, life changes for Ilya completely, and Shane has to learn how he fits in.

  8. It’s his Person.

Missed you missed you missed you, he tries to convey with no mouth and no voice and all his heart. He’s reborn the way he died; the name of his Person nestled safe against his tongue.

“Ilya,” Shane gasps, and his heart beats again.

Shane Hollander dies the second Ilya Rozanov’s plane goes down. It just takes a while for his body to catch up.

Thankfully, death isn't permanent — for either of them. Their tangled souls have been given a second chance at life, and they’re going to act like it. Which means never separating again. Ever.

After all, death can’t part them. Why should hockey?

  9. Shane has his cornerstones of control: Ilya, food, and hockey.

He can keep them all discrete and harmonious - a well-oiled machine.

Hockey belongs on the ice. Shane and Ilya belong at the cottage. Hayden belongs at a distance where Shane doesn't have to explain himself.

Except Hayden really should know about Ilya, shouldn't he? And surely telling him can't blow Shane's life up too much. Ilya doesn't think so, but Ilya routinely asserts that his skates are "too American and trying to humble him", so maybe Ilya's opinions aren't always to be entirely trusted.

OR: Hayden Pike loves Shane a lot. Enough to tolerate the Russian shitbag that is Ilya Rozanov? Well...

  10. A fiery plane crash claims Ilya Rozanov’s life in January. By April, Shane Hollander is dead of a broken heart. The truth dies with them.

Yuna Hollander will do anything to get her son back, including hiring a shady shaman to resurrect him. There’s just one complication — Shane isn’t coming back alone.

Now there are codependent (not)zombies in her house wearing Ilya and Shane’s faces. When they inexplicably act more like a married couple than the bitter rivals she expected, Yuna is convinced that they came back wrong.

It’s easier than admitting she never understood them from the start.

  11. It seems silly to ever, ever be sad when this is his life. Yet, the brilliant sunlight today seems to be tinged with a gray tone he can’t blink away. A filter over his eyes, over his heart, making his limbs feel like lead. Fear, palpable and boiling in his stomach. He has everything he ever wanted, and what if- god what if he lost it? Thoughts of his mother, too. The beautiful, funny, brilliant woman who used to comb his messy curls and call him her little angel whenever she spoke to him. The woman who soothed his aches when he was hurt, who brushed the harsh words of his father right out of his ears with her own gentle ones. He gets why she left. He doesn’t blame her, not really. Sometimes, he thinks he might really understand it. Days like today, he thinks, which is a bit scary. -ilya has a bad mental health day on a babymoon trip to the cottage with shane and their daughter. his family is there for him-

Ilya had thought it was dumb, when Galina suggested it. A code word for when his mental health was bad—he and Shane didn’t even have a code word for sex, and Ilya was regularly tying Shane to the bed and slapping his ass until it was as red as a tomato.

“Is there a reason you’re calling me?” Shane asks now, voice echoey over the phone. “Or is this part of your strategy to win our argument?”

Ilya swallows hard. “Constantinople,” he says.

His body did this chore for him - taking a beating, painfully building muscles - and in reward he got his father’s approval. In much lesser reward he also got his mama’s worry, which, while he loved her care, he wished she would worry less. Wished she could see that he knew the way the world worked and he could fit into it. Wished she would not remind him that she loved her gentle Ilyushenka and that he did not need to hide, not from her.

  16. Shane Hollander expected a lot out of the combine before the 2009 NHL draft: meeting the competition, impressing possible future teams and ultimately securing his spot in the NHL.

What he didn't expect was 50 questions that were about to change his whole damn life.

Or: How an autism diagnosis, a therapist and something magical called communication rebuild the whole trajectory of the Hollander/Rozanov saga bit by bit.

  18. Ilya. He is still sleeping fitfully in Irina’s bed, face crumpled and lips turned down. Irina leans over him and presses a single kiss to the crease between his eyebrows, and then leans back just enough to watch Ilya’s big, blue eyes blink open at her. She holds a finger against her lips, waiting until Ilya nods before she straightens up and beckons him to get out of bed. When Ilya is standing, Irina helps him into a clean sweater, his coat, scarf, and hat. Ilya looks terribly confused, but allows himself to be dressed like a toddler, watching his mother curiously but without question. He is twelve years old, certainly old enough to dress himself, and maybe Grigory has a point when he insists that Irina coddles Ilya too much, but, good heavens, that face, how could she not? It is not until Ilya notices the suitcase by the bedroom door that his expression changes. His eyes darken at first, and then his face screws up minutely, looking at Irina with thinly veiled horror. “Be completely silent, solnyshko,” Irina breathes. “We have to go.” Irina Rozanova chooses differently.

The Centaurs come to a- given the circumstances- reasonable conclusion. Shane, for the record, is alive and really confused.

  20. In 2016, Shane walked out of Ilya's life and never looked back.

In 2017, Ilya poured gasoline all over his career, struck a match, and walked away from the ashes.

In 2026, their paths cross again at the scene of a car accident that kills Shane’s wife Rose and injures both Shane and his 4 year old daughter, Sophie.

Suddenly, the quiet, unassuming life that Ilya has worked so hard to build for himself crumbles as he confronts the fact that he's never gotten over Shane Hollander.
