    For a moment Hollander didn't respond, was staring at the crumpled bedspread between them, his jaw working slightly, an easy tell Ilya didn't think Hollander knew about, that he was chewing on the inside of his lips. Sometimes when they kissed Hollander's mouth was tangy with blood.
    "I wanted to," Hollander said, slow and even, "ask. If this was our last time hooking up, what would you want to do?"
