It only took basically a decade but Shane finally has Ilya in every aspect. He should be celebrating and enjoying it, should be focused on slotting into his new team in Ottawa. Instead he's watching the news cycle with bated breath, waiting for the inevitable moment that his name pops up alongside words like "victim" and "Dallas Kent."

The phone rings and Shane startles, fists tightening in his hair as the sound grates against him. Ilya grabs the device from the counter above him and silences it, tossing it towards the living room and away from the tiny, careful bubble he's created. He watches as Shane's eyes close tightly, a small huff of rattling breath escaping him.

“How could there be a video?” He whispers, almost so quietly that Ilya nearly misses it. Maybe he wasn't intended to hear it in the first place.

Or: A sequel to Try, Try Again - the assault happened, Shane recovered, but when someone sends a link to an online video, their world is tipped upside down again.

Heed the tags! We get a bit more graphic in this one, again, I don't go into explicit detail of the assault, but it is referenced and opening scenes of the video are included. If you do not wish to do this to yourself because you like happiness, please, follow your heart and click away.

It's already so complicated - their hook-ups and their secrets - that Ilya Rozanov knows it can't continue forever. So, when Shane Hollander, his rival on the ice and current reason for waking up in the morning, suddenly ghosts him and starts playing like an amateur, Ilya is desperate to figure out why and fix it so that their tangled little mess can maybe, one day, last.

AN: Make note of the tags. Not a full recount/description of the assault, but it's a central theme.

Shane has been acting different lately. He can't sleep, no matter how tired he gets. He should be fine. He just finished his first ever season on the Ottawa Centaurs and has been openly married to his husband for almost a year now. He should be fine, right?

He knows Ilya is starting to notice, but he doesn't know what's wrong with him, so he's just going to pretend nothing is wrong.

Or, Many years ago, Shane Hollander was assaulted.
