Shane felt his lips twitch into a small smile. “New York.”

  5. A butterfly flapping its wings in one part of the world may cause a hurricane somewhere else.

A conversation with Rose Landry leads Shane Hollander to make a decision that he may ultimately live to regret. Far from the eye of the storm, he crashes along the waves, beaten down by wind and rain.

Ilya Rozanov lies in the eye of a hurricane. Sometimes he drifts just close enough to the horizon to get into trouble. Just dangerous enough to keep life interesting - enough to remind himself that he's still alive.

A safe harbor can be found for both, if they can only get there.

  8. "The thing is, Shane has always thought he was going to retire in Montreal. He’s spent his whole childhood watching his mom praise them, and wanting to be just like them. He’s had dreams of his jersey getting retired here. He doesn’t want to leave. He wants everything to go back to how it was before Hayden showed up at his door yesterday. He wants to retire a Voyager, he wants to be a Voyager, he’s always wanted to be a Voyager. But he can’t turn back time, and he can’t make himself think that the environment is going to magically get better. He’s already muted the Montreal Voyagers chat after too many jokes at his expense. If they’re that confident behind a screen, who knows how they’ll feel in person. He’s their captain. He should be better than this. This shouldn’t be getting to him. He wants to stop thinking about this. He wants Ilya."

Shane gets outed to Montreal a lot earlier than he originally planned to (aka never). The plan he and Ilya made needs to change drastically, as Shane finds himself the one trading teams instead of Ilya. Some things stay the same, but some things change.

  11. Sequel to Breathing Room

Ilya Rozanov has spent five years holding Shane Hollander at arm’s length - not because he didn’t love him, but because he loved him too much to ask him to risk everything for something that could fall apart. He was good at that: the careful distance, the walls that looked like indifference, the way he’d learned to be close without being close. He’d had a lot of practice.

What he didn’t have practice for was what came after he was done lying to himself. He didn’t have practice for this - for something warm and bright and absolutely terrifying. Something that fits in the spaces between games and cities and the distance between Boston and Raleigh. Something that makes Ilya think, for the first time in a long time, that maybe the risk is worth it.

He just needs to figure out what to do with it all before their careers swallow them whole

He doesn’t get the chance to think about it for very long.

  13. Since Shane Hollander’s painful public outing, things clearly haven’t been right with the Voyageurs. Still, everyone is shocked when Shane gets himself traded to the Ottawa Centaurs.

Shane can’t completely explain it, to be honest, not in a way anyone else understands. He just knows this: he lost Ilya, lost the Voyageurs, lost his privacy and his choice. But hockey is still the love of Shane’s life. And he’s not going to lose that, too.

  16. (summary and tags contain SPOILERS for earlier works in the series!)

Shane and Ilya are champions. They are partners, and they’re in it for life. And people are starting to notice.

After being traumatically outed two years ago, Shane and Ilya's relationship and their lives have been fundamentally changed, and most days, Shane thinks that's a good thing. But sometimes, the pressure of being out, and the endless online speculation about #hollanov, and rumors running rampant through the NHL, and a new generation of rookies looking up to them, and the knowledge that everyone is relying on Shane Hollander to be perfect at all times—sometimes it's a lot.

But Shane's dealing with it. Ilya seems happier than he's ever been, and Shane just needs to get his act together to support his husband. He can do that. He needs to, and he will, if he doesn't crack under the pressure first.

They've got a second Stanley Cup to win, after all.

  17. “—okay, that’s unusual,” the first commentator’s voice is saying over the footage. “Hm. Ladies and gentlemen, it seems that, thanks to some last-minute additions to the broadcast, we’ll be able to get an audio feed straight from the arena today!”

Ilya frowns. Who the fuck was stupid enough to get mic’d for this fucking game? Some idiot rookie from Toronto, probably. They really don’t teach kids how to handle anything these days.

“That’s right!” The second announcer pipes up with an annoyingly fake cheery voice. Ilya immediately wants to send a puck straight into his windpipe. “We just got confirmation that Captain Shane Hollander himself will be wearing a microphone during tonight’s game.”

Ilya sits up and spins to face the TV screen fast enough to give a lesser man whiplash.

Shane doesn’t get injured when Ilya comes back from Russia in 2017, so Ilya follows through on his plan to end things between them. A year later, despite being miserable, he still believes he did the right thing for both of them.
Except the Voyageurs have been acting weird around Hollander lately. And wait, what do you mean he’s mic’d for this game?

  18. After winning the cup two seasons in a row, Shane Hollander is inexplicably traded to a west coast team just two days before Montreal and Boston are to meet for the first time of the season. Shane reaches out, Ilya doesn't reply. Then Ilya reaches out, Shane ignores him.

  19. Refusing to let Ilya ruin his career by signing with Ottawa, Shane chooses to really give their relationship a try and moves to Boston to live with Ilya and become a Raider. What follows is enough public scrutiny and backlash from his team that it has him questioning if he made the right decision. Until moments with Ilya and the Raiders show him exactly why he chose correctly. --- Hayden’s eyes flickered to Shane as he sat on the bench, chewing on the edge of his mouth guard. “Don’t fucking look at him,” Ilya insisted as he bent down for the faceoff. “Excuse me?” Hayden mumbled, eyes darting back to him. “You heard me,” he retorted, his tone clipped. “He’s not your teammate anymore; he’s mine. If you think Marlow is a problem to your game, wait until you see what I will do to your team if you hurt anyone on mine again.” Hayden scoffed, dipping his head as he tried to focus on the game. Something about Ilya’s words still rang through his head though, sounding so definitive that he didn’t want to risk seeing what he was actually referring to when he said that. The puck dropped again, and Ilya stole it before he could comprehend how quickly it happened.

  20. There was something wrong with Shane Hollander.

He had known it since he was young.

Most people-most kids, in general-had different hobbies and interests. Their attention drifted from one thing to another. They became fascinated with something for a few weeks, only to abandon it for the next shiny obsession that caught their eye.

Shane had never been like that.

When it came to him, there was only ever one thing: hockey.

    Obsessive.

That was the word most people used when referring to his temperament.
