Most Europeans who have good magic for hockey stay in Europe. There are a few leagues that don't use magic over there, but most of them do. Russia is famous for it, and famously does shit in the international leagues that don't allow it, and phenomenally in the international leagues that allow it.
Rozanov's powers don't just guarantee him the win. The last Russian with solid Hockey powers who joined the MLH was Varkov, and while he never admitted why he made the switch, it seems obvious to Shane. He still doesn't understand why Rozanov would.

Her solution? Studying romantic social cues and flirting techniques. The textbook? Romance novels.
Well, it can't hurt to try, and anything Shane tries, he tries thoroughly. Maybe a little too thoroughly? He didn't expect for his book reviews to pick up a following, and he DEFINITELY didn't expect to become the (secret, anonymous) face of "allyship" in the MLH.
He's not complaining, though. The books resonate with him more than he ever could have predicted, even if the hockey is unrealistic as shit, and maybe he'll learn a thing or two along the way. (About healthy relationships, communication, and emotional intelligence. Not any of the OTHER things you'll find in a hockey romance. Nope. Not at all...)

Ilya liked it simple.
It hadn’t really mattered, he thought, until Cliff Marleau had mentioned it as they prepared to board a plane home from Montreal.
“Dude,” Marly said. “You’ve been texting this chick for fucking years and she’s just Jane in your phone? Kind of cold.”

She had never in her life believed in love at first sight, but she considered herself a good judge of character, and she had strong opinions on basically everything. Very rarely was her first impression wrong, and her first impression of Shane Hollander told her that he was going to be very, very important to her in the not-so-distant future.

Svetlana learns that Jane is Shane Hollander at the start of the 2017-2018 hockey season. She immediately decides that she and Shane are going to be friends. After all, Ilya is her best friend, and Shane is love of her best friend's life; it just makes sense to be his friend, too. She's pretty sure that's how it works.
Over the following years, she gets a few opportunities to solidify that friendship, and help both Shane and Ilya feel a little less lonely.
