Flight 771 shouldn't have been any different than any of the hundreds of other flights that Shane has taken over the course of his career, aside from the fact that it was taking him towards his lifelong dream—towards the Olympics.
It shouldn't have been any different.
BEND OVER, STAY DOWN.
BEND OVER, STAY DOWN.
BEND OVER, STAY DOWN.
It is.

Shane was the first omega ever drafted into the NHL. His designation usually considered only good for two things: breeding and mating — and most people didn’t even think male omegas were worthy of the latter. He had a lot to prove. And he really couldn’t afford distractions. Especially when those distractions came in the form of a cocky Russian alpha.

Svetlana knows about Jane. It's frankly insulting for Ilyusha to think otherwise.
She just never expected to have to call him for help. During the Olympics. In Russia. In the dead of night.
-
Or, it's Sochi 2014 and Russia has lost to Latvia. Grigori Rozanov, not yet compromised by illness, punishes his son for shaming the family. When Svetlana finds an injured and emotionally fragile Ilya, she knows she needs somewhere safe for him to recover. And there's only one person in Russia who Sveta trusts with her Ilyusha: Canada's Golden Boy, Shane Hollander.- Part 1 of To know the sun

“No, no. Answer. Tell me. How’s it feel to be a fucking winner, and then to bend over and take my cock? You feel like a winner, Hollander? Do you feel like a winner now?” Ilya hisses. He’s being cruel. There is no choice, he just is, no matter how much he hates it. It doesn’t help anything. He can’t stop it.
“Yes,” Shane hisses. “Fuck, yes. I’m a fucking winner,” he gasps.

Ilya takes Sasha up on his offer to do cocaine during the 2014 Sochi Olympics, and then he fucks Shane instead of dealing with his feelings.

Odd-Man Rush: The situation that occurs when a team enters the attacking zone and outnumbers the opposing players in the zone.
Or,
Shane doesn’t know why he still feels so off-kilter. He should be the happiest he’s ever been—he won the Cup, he feels like he’s maybe starting to have a few friends on his team, and he’s finally starting to believe his parents when they tell him he won’t get traded again. He should be on top of the world, but sometimes he still feels like the lone defender on an odd-man rush, skating as fast as he can to prevent what feels like an inevitable outcome.
The problem is that he’s not quite sure which outcome it is that he’s trying to stop.

6 Months by Nituaii

Shane didn't know what he should say, what he could say. They hadn't talked since that night, hadn't been in contact much. Which at first hadn't worried Shane. It wasn't unusual for them to go longer periods of time without contact, and especially with the Olympics looming so close, with them both being chosen for their teams, it had only seemed logical to focus on their duties. He hadn't worried. Had lived in that blissful state of finally knowing what it felt like to be taken, of sharing the arguably most intimate part of himself with someone he trusted. Knew he could trust. Thought he could trust. OR: What happened during those 6 months when Ilya ignored Shane? How did that time change things for Shane?

"Ilya. What the fuck happened?" Ilya wiped over his nose with the back of his hand again, frowning at the sticky smear left on his skin. "Nothing." "What the fuck do you mean nothing! You have a busted lip! Your nose is bleeding!" Shanes voice was louder than he would have liked. Or: Two times Ilya gets hurt and the one time Shane is there to make it better.

Shane texts him his second day in Sochi, after the Opening Ceremony is over and the sports are beginning. Are you staying in the Village? he asks. Capitalization, proper grammar. Innocuous.
