“So.” Ilya cleared his throat. “Should we tell the girls their Daddy and their coach used to date?”
“We didn’t date. We hooked up a few times, then you disappeared.” Shane looked away to hide his heartbreak as he lied, “It doesn’t even matter. It’s not like I loved you or anything.”
“No, of course not.” Ilya tried to smile through a lie of his own, “I didn’t love you either.”

“It is nice to meet you, Shane Hollander.” Ilya nods his head at the crumpled paper in Shane’s hand. “What is that you have there?” “Oh.” Shane’s cheeks are a perpetual state of flushed red. “Before I came, I made a list of, um, things I am looking for in a car? Practical things, I guess. I didn’t want to forget.” Ilya’s lips quiver, and he resists the urge to let an incredibly fond smile overtake his face. This tall, muscular omega could not be more precious if he was made of teddy bears and heart stickers. “May I see it?” Ilya inquires, extending his hand again. With visible reluctance, Shane passes over the piece of notebook paper. Ilya glances up at Shane, arching an eyebrow. The omega smiles shyly at him, his warm brown eyes glimmering. “Am I completely out of my mind to try and find all of these things in one car?” he asks. “I never let a customer leave unhappy.” He winks at Shane, who lets out a small, startled laugh. It’s an utterly breathtaking sound, even as brief as it is. -ilya is a single, playboy alpha car salesman. shane is a pregnant, unmated omega, trying to start his life over. they meet, and starting over gets a bit more complicated-

There is something from an Ottawa Centaurs email, titled 'conversation.'
For a moment, he strongly considers deleting it. Shane no longer owes a single part of the MLH a damn thing, nor does he expect anything from it. His exit from the league is -- well. People aren't motivated to bring it up.
The sender is listed as Wiebe, B.

Shane Hollander only goes to the café near the rink because his daughter loves the hot chocolate. The fact that Ilya Rozanov remembers Louise’s order, gives her free cookies, and looks suspiciously happy whenever they walk in is completely irrelevant. Louise, however, seems to think the barista would fit perfectly into their little family.

When Shane pulls away, he swallows audibly and the breath catches in his throat when he says, “There’s something you should know, too. Um, before.”
Ilya traces a thumb over his lips, pouts his own to show he’s listening. “Hm?”
“I’m a man,” Shane says, carefully.
Ilya scoffs. “Obviously. I’m not—”
“No, no, I mean—I’m a man. You need to remember that. Because—”
“Oh,” Ilya murmurs. He brings his other hand up, settles it in the curve of Shane’s neck. “I understand."A hockey player and the most beautiful man he's ever seen walk into a bar.

“I know you’re there,” he spoke gently, proud when his voice sounded nearly confident in spite of the way his hands were shaking under his desk, “I’ve seen you.”
The air in front of him seemed to shimmer in a way that was almost corporeal. Beneath his lab coat, the hair on his arms was standing on end.
Suddenly, so softly that it could hardly be called a whisper, a man’s voice answered, “So what if I am here? What would it matter anyway?”
Or, a scientist and a skeptic, new Team Physician Dr. Ilya Rozanov holds no belief in ghosts or ghouls or anything remotely supernatural, but soon even he can’t ignore the strange and inexplicable occurrences happening around the university’s sports complex.

Shane’s face was ashen. He was staring at Ilya with a haunted look, eyes flicking from Ilya’s head to the end the boards he’d crashed into.
Fuck.
There wasn’t much Ilya could do to comfort Shane from where he was aside from trying to mouth “I’m fine,” which from the look on Shane’s face, he didn’t believe one bit.Ilya gets a minor concussion during a game, and it hits a little too close to home for Shane.

“I do sometimes still think about how my life would have been if I never got injured,” Shane started to whisper. Ilya looked at him, he was focused on the ceiling. He grabbed his hand and placed it over his own chest. “But, you know, I’m glad that it led me here. To you,” the fondness that laced his tone opened Ilya in half. Ilya laid on his side, so he could contemplate him better. The sigh of Shane naked, only with the light sheet covering little of his modesty had something divine about it. “Maybe we could have met either way.” AU where neither of them play professional hockey but they make their way to each other eventually (Kids' coach shane and uncle ilya fall in love one practice at a time -and gay bar flirting-)
