The Words We Cannot Take Back by Anonymous
Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)

Some things, once spoken, cannot be undone. David Hollander is sure he taught his son that. But when Ilya Rozanov and David have been getting along better than well, and Shane unwittingly fractures their efforts, leaving Ilya heavy under a loneliness the boy cannot quite name, David doesn't understand where he went wrong.

Ilya’s still learning what Shane likes and needs, observing him quietly because Shane’s not so forthcoming with what he wants unless he’s certain it’s what he’s supposed to want. But it’s not until Shane reaches back and grabs Ilya’s hip to pull him closer, pressing their bodies together and taking some of Ilya’s weight, that he realises Shane’s been studying Ilya the same way.
“I’m trying to take care of you.”
“Why?” Ilya says, instead of something safer.
Shane twists over his shoulder to frown at him. “Because I want to? Because you’re tired and sad and not feeling well?”
“Oh.” Ilya pulls his bottom lip through his teeth. “But I…”
“I think maybe we both fucked up tonight?” Shane says tentatively.
“No, is not your fault.” Ilya rubs a hand over Shane’s shoulder and then kisses it, wet and soft. “You’re good.”
Shane hums like he’s not convinced. He turns and drapes his arms over Ilya’s shoulders, still pressed close. “After this, will you…”
“Yes,” Ilya says, his mind sharpening attentively, “Tell me what you need.”Or: They communicate just a little bit better and let themselves be just a little more vulnerable, both with each other and their people.

The chime sounded as the elevator arrived. Shane rolled his shoulders back and gave himself one final look in the mirrored surface. His reflection split in two as the doors opened in the center like a hungry mouth about to swallow him whole. Where Shane’s face had stared back at him a split second ago stood Rozanov.
A black hole opened itself in the center of Shane’s torso, dragging his organs, muscles, bones, nerve endings from the furthest points of his body inwards to collapse upon themselves. His brain was static on a muted television. Instructions failed to materialize; he had no plan for this.
Rozanov stared at him, unmoving except for an almost imperceptible hitch in his breath. Time slowed. It had a funny way of doing that around Rozanov.

It Is Not A Problem by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Game Changers | Heated Rivalry - All Media Types
2026-04-06
Shane and Ilya have written their own vows for the wedding.
-----
“I cannot stop thinking about him. This slow fucking hockey player with the freckles. Since we were seventeen in Saskatchewan. In that car park. I cannot stop thinking about him. That car park and the gym that night after draft pick and all the hotel rooms and All Stars and all of my texts you never answered and all of the ones you did.” He takes a breath, confesses. “And when I drank a whole bottle of vodka after I won the Stanley Cup to stop myself from fucking texting you.
“Was a terrible problem, then. When I was twenty. And twenty-two and twenty-four. Twenty-five. And I would think, this is going to kill me. I would think, then, that maybe I had spent more time wanting to see you when I could not than I had spent doing anything else. Even hockey.”----
Is Ilya going to tell Shane he has a weak backhand in their wedding vows? Yes, yes he is. Will Shane speak Russian? Did he secretly get help from Svetlana to prep for this? Is anyone going to mention the secret sex condo? Can Ilya avoid having to thank Scott Hunter in his actual vows? He’s certainly going to try.

don't ask me questions (and don't wonder) by Anonymous

Don’t ask me questions, he’d say to him, and don’t wonder. For wondering what Ilya was thinking about when he was staring up at Shane’s freckled face was the same as wondering why he needed to breathe - a pointless wonder with an obvious answer: without it he’d die.
The missing intimacy scene in between Ilya's breakdown in Shane's arms and Shane's eventual departure.

He went silent again, his brow furrowed so hard it looked painful. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. He stood up, his hockey gear clanking loudly. "I have it. I see on internet. A man. He has jar. He has bubbles." Shane blinked. "Bubbles? Like... a fish?" "No," Ilya said, pacing the room like a caged bear. "He make life from dust. He mix powder and water. He wait. He feed it like baby. Then... BREAD." "Oh so baking, you want to try baking bread?" Shane asked skeptically. "Not just bake, Shane. Sourdough. Is complex. Is science. Is war with yeast." Ilya's voice grew passionate, his Russian accent thickening. "It is sour, like my childhood. It is hard crust, like my heart."

"Okay, so let's say that what you're saying is correct, and he is in fact making heart-eyes at Hollander. That doesn't immediately explain moving to Ottawa for him, does it?" Troy asked, looking genuinely interested in Wyatt's theory.
"We know Ilya, don't we? When that guy likes something then he is absolutely gone for it; look at how he treats Chiron. Just imagine. He develops a crush on Shane Hollander and then decides to do anything possible to get together with him. Even if it means moving across countries and joining a shit team.
"You know… I'd be willing to see it." Bood relented. "He did start a charity with him."
Or, the Centaurs figure out how down bad Ilya is for Shane, not realizing the feeling is mutual, and decide to try and bring them together with ridiculous plans.

Ilya ignored the request from the NHL twice. The first time they asked through his agent, the second time the director of marketing called his personal number directly. He never got along with the league as a player, and he certainly didn't need to make them happy now.
The next attempt to reach him was harder to ignore. A phone call from an unknown number. A voicemail that made his blood run cold.
"Hi Ilya. This is Rose Landry. We've never met, but Shane speaks so highly of you. I think the NHL has been trying to get in touch. Shane said you probably wouldn't talk to them. But...think about it, ok? I know it would mean a lot to him."
The final request crumbled his resolve. The caller ID blinked "Jane," and Ilya stared at it.

Shane’s eyes narrowed at the weak excuse. “So you randomly decided to announce your bisexuality the day after pictures of me kissing a man hit the internet.”
Ilya felt a surge of irrational jealousy and shoved it away. “Was not random. I just said that I did it because I had gay FOMO. Keep up, Hollander.”
Shane let out a strangled sound of disapproval and pinched the bridge of his nose between two fingers. “Rozanov. Please tell me that you didn’t…that you didn’t out yourself for me.”

Ilya had never really let himself picture it before. Not for too long, anyway. Himself at twelve, standing in that doorway, seeing her lifeless body on the bed. He didn’t have any photographs of himself from that age, which made it easier to keep the memory at a distance. Just a fact. Something that happened to a version of himself he barely remembered being. Niko turning twelve closed that distance. Ilya is going through a depressive episode. Which is hitting differently now that his son is the same age he was when his mom died.

5 times Ilya played matchmaker to the queer guys in the league and showed them that he has insane gaydar and is extremely perceptive (and to maybe make sure they absolutely did not ask out his Shane, even when that wasn't happening, but you know Ilya he is so obsessed with Shane he assumes that everyone wants to date his man)
+1 time they found out Rozanov wasn't just an allyor

Shane isn’t answering the door. Ilya assumes that’s because he hasn’t heard the knock on the door. Music is playing through the open door between the bedroom and the hallway. Ilya knows that Shane doesn’t really know music and definitely isn’t particular about it, which means he’s doing this for Ilya.
Ilya wills his feet to move. After a few seconds they do. They feel heavy, like there are weights tied to them, but they bring Ilya to the front door, so he’s not complaining. He opens the door slowly and tries smiling at the man, presumably David Hollander, in front of him.
“Hello,” presumably David Hollander says in a low voice. “I’m looking for Shane.”
In a retelling of 'David finds Shane and Ilya in episode 6,' David arrives a couple of minutes later and as a result doesn't see Shane and Ilya making out. Shane and Ilya get to discuss coming out to Shane's parents on their own terms.

Where's my fucking teenage dream? by Anonymous
Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)
2026-04-02
This is how it was supposed to go: Ilya Rozanov, all of 17 years old, would win gold for Russia at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Saskatchewan — and he did. Then, just after his 18th birthday, he would return to North America for the NHL entry draft and get picked first overall by the Montreal Voyageurs. He defeated Canada’s golden boy Shane Hollander on the ice, and was widely expected to beat him in the draft too.
But that’s not how it went.
What would have happened in that hotel gym if Shane had been drafted first overall?

It wasn’t his first hockey fight, not by far. After decades of playing, it was impossible to avoid the occasional scrum. It just wasn’t something that Shane purposefully tried to get involved in. He wasn’t like Ilya, he didn’t find joy in pushing and prodding at the other team until one of them snapped and threw a punch. When a scrum did break out, he hardly ever joined the fray, preferring instead to focus on managing the refs and trying to get his team out of the fight with as few penalties as possible. When Shane’s fist connected with Comeau’s cheekbone, Shane grinned. -- Or, the moment Shane realized he played his last game as a Montreal Metro and has to come to terms with everything that means after. Featuring Shane realizing he's not as okay as he seems, and Ilya trying to figure out how he can help.

The Distance Between Us by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-03-30
Ilya Rozanov has spent ten years circling Shane Hollander. Ten years of hotel rooms and secret phone calls. Ten years of pretending he doesn't feel it, doesn't need it, doesn't wake up reaching for someone who's already gone. Ten years convincing himself he's not good enough. That he's not worth it.
Then a plane needs to make an emergency landing near Montreal, and Yuna Hollander is on it.
So when Shane calls him from a bathroom floor, unable to breathe, Ilya stops pretending.
After five hundred miles of frozen highway, three and a half hours of driving like a man possessed, a hospital waiting room full of people who have every reason to hate him, and a boy who looks at him like he's something worth keeping, Ilya may have learned a thing or two about what it means to be loved—and to let himself love freely.

A look at the year that Ilya still played for Boston, except they explicitly state their dom/sub relationship, and explore that dynamic (and kink) together.

When they first started, it was by accident. Ilya followed Shane’s lead; he read his body and responded with his own. Shane liked to be on his knees for Ilya, and Ilya liked to keep him there.
The first time it went wrong. Shane thought it was his fault. It wasn’t.
