  1. A snowstorm strands the Boston Bears in Montreal with not enough hotel rooms and nowhere to go in their rival’s city.
On a reckless impulse, Ilya volunteers to stay with Shane Hollander.
His teammates think it’s a joke.
    Shane plays along.

  2. “You need to calm down,” Ilya says. “You will wear out your fancy sneakers.”

“Is this a joke to you?!” Shane snaps, turning so sharply that his Rebooks squeak against the warehouse’s cement. “It’s not fucking funny. These guys could fucking ruin everything.”

Ilya clenches his jaw. Shane is scared and he hates that there’s nothing he can do to fix it. Ever since the video landed in both their inboxes, neither of them has had a good night’s sleep.

    or

One year into their relationship a video risks exposing Shane and Ilya’s relationship. To protect their secret, they will need to do as the backmailers demand. But how far are they willing to go? And what if there’s more going on that meets the eye?

  3. Dykstra comes over and claps Luca on his other shoulder. “No need to feel weird. Tiger stripes, yeah?”

    “Tiger stripes?” Roz repeats.

Dykstra nods. “Yeah, learned that from my wife when she was pregnant with Suzie. You know, because they show she survived the battle of being pregnant and all that.”

Or: The Centaurs have been debating for a while whether the great playboy Ilya Rozanov moved to Ottawa for love. After a locker room conversation about tiger stripes, Wyatt is pretty sure Roz has his own tiger stripes woman. Or, well, maybe rather a tiger stripes person.

  5. His mom flowed from his pen in the form of ink when he wrote the letter. A letter which meant ‘just in case’. Just in case he can’t control himself, if he doesn’t wake up, if he…you know. Ilya never planned on killing himself, but going willingly or not, the cruel scythe of death that took away his mother could come for him anytime. So he wrote a letter. It wasn’t addressed to anyone specific, just to the unlucky soul who will find him one day when this piece of paper becomes relevant. Or Ilya writes suicide notes. Years later, Shane finds them and thinks they are recent. A misunderstanding is born.

  6. "Never have I ever checked out my teammates in the locker room." Comeau said, looking directly at him. Shane left his beer exactly where it was and met Comeau's gaze without saying a word, waiting for someone else to break the silence, because surely that had to have been a joke. "Come on, Cap. It's no fun if you're just gonna lie." Drapeau let out with a quiet snort. Shane frowned, genuinely confused. "What?" "You really expect us to believe you've never taken a peek at us in the showers?" ⎯⎯⎯ Or: A game of Never Have I Ever with the Voyageurs turns ugly, it's a good thing Ilya is not too far way.

Ilya used to think Shane was a bad liar.

He would, after all, notice every time Shane stammered through a falsehood or half-truth. Sometimes he even let him.

Now, Ilya wonders if maybe they weren't built to understand one another. Cosmically destined for one another in a way that others aren't. Mama used to talk about people like that, people made by fate for one another, misunderstandings are natural even with the ones you love; but there are some people that you just get.

Shane is a bad liar. A bad liar to Ilya who he refuses to look at and when he does the shame of the lie is written in every freckle on his beautiful face.

    To others not so much.

  10. Kip grabs Scott's thigh as he watches Shane lick his lips before tucking his smile back between his teeth. Rozanov meets Shane's eyes from across the room, heated and promising something. Kip feels crazy looking at it being reminded of the tension of their face offs. Shane's eyes drop back to the bland chicken on his plate, and Kip is ready to write this off as a figment of his imagination, when Rozanov catches his eye now and winks.

Scott is going to have five tiny bruises on his thigh. But that doesn't seem to bother him. "Everything okay?"

  11. “Hi Milana,” he murmured, voice gentle. “I’m Ilya, your father’s brother. Did your mama tell you I was coming over?”

Milana nodded and pulled her bottom lip into her mouth, gaze contemplative as Ilya held out a hand to her. He didn’t touch her, didn’t broach the barrier of the doorframe, just held his palm out, a gesture of vulnerability, exposing soft skin. When he’d been a child, listening out for the sound of his father’s footfalls down the hall, trying to guess at what mood the man was in that day, if today was a day he would likely be hit, those gestures of vulnerability–upturned palms, tears on cheeks–had been the only thing he’d trusted. The wounded animal in his sternum reaching out for comfort, seeking safety in the fragility of others. Proof that he wasn’t the weakest one.

Or: After spending Christmas with the Hollanders Ilya realises he has unfinished business in Moscow; namely, saying goodbye to his mother's grave and recovering the pieces of his history. Before meeting Shane at the cottage for their second summer together - and before upending his life and moving to another country once again - Ilya decides to return to his home city and attempt to lay his past to rest.

  12. Welcome to the Ultimate Game.

If you’re looking for a chronicle of redemption or, worse yet, a fairy tale ending with a kiss under the snow, you’ve walked into the wrong locker room. This is the story of a sabotage.

For ten years, the hockey world has feasted on the rivalry between two captains with the same hunger one brings to a public execution. And us? We served them the blood on a silver platter, while in the shadows of hotel rooms in Montreal or Boston, we exchanged fluids and secrets with the precision of two spies in enemy territory.

They believe the ice is a sanctuary of heterosexual secrets. They don’t realize that while they were betting on our next elbow to the face, they were witnessing a long, violent decade of foreplay.

Now, it’s time for El Plan.

Shane is the butterfly flapping its wings on an underwear billboard. I am the tornado about to level the entire NHL.

Grab your popcorn. It’s going to be a beautiful massacre.

My name is Ilya Rozanov, and you can thank me later.

Hello! This is my first post, although I am a frequent visitor to this subreddit and have been for years. I have loved hockey all my life, but my real guilty pleasure is staying on top of all the behind the scenes gossip. As you can imagine, Scott Hunter kissing his boyfriend on the ice was a huge day for me!

I recently noticed something with Ilya Rozanov that I don’t think many other people have, and I decided to finally post about it here to see if anyone else shares my opinion. Every hockey fan I’ve talked to in my real life has brushed it off because Rozanov is known as such a womanizer, but I genuinely think he’s in some kind of serious long-term relationship.

Or the year before Ilya transfers to Ottawa, Shane and Ilya learn three things. Creating a charity is a fuck ton of work, coming out isn’t something you do just once, and the whole world seems to think Ilya Rozanov is in a committed relationship.

Oh, and Ilya is addicted to Reddit hockey gossip.

Jane: Montreal was not a good option for a number of reasons.
Caitlin: So he did move for you??!!!
Jane: Don't tell your husbands. He likes the mystery.
Cassie: Never. what happens in the WAG chat stays in the WAG chat.

  15. Scott watched as Hollander leaned in, further, to hear Rozanov. This was the part that didn’t entirely make sense to him. The missing piece of something that felt like it was just beyond his reach. This was quiet ease and small moments of comfort and a look that makes the rest of the world fade away. This was how he felt with Kip.

    Scott stilled.

It was as if someone had whispered it in his ear. It was as if the final piece of this insane, deranged puzzle finally clicked into place. His heart was pounding in his ears. He was probably wrong. In fact he was entirely wrong. This wasn’t like him and Kip. It couldn’t be Kip. Scott had been watching too many romantic comedies. His head was in the clouds.

    But they weren’t touching.

Hollander and Rozanov were as close as they could be, without laying a single finger on one another. They were specifically, rigidly, separate. The warmth between them was bridled. Entirely. And this, Scott realized, his heart sinking into the floor, was also how he had felt with Kip.

    Oh. Oh fuck.

  18. The first thing you should know about time loops is that they’re really fucking hard to break. The second thing is that you can never break one in such a way that it is incapable of returning.

The third thing you should know is that everyone around you has probably been stuck in a time loop at one point or another, and they made it out alive. This is only comforting if you’re a numbers guy, or if you’re the kind of guy who talks to others about how it feels to live the same day over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Shame if you’re not; the most important thing you should know about breaking a time loop is that it helps to tell someone you’re trapped in one in the first place.

  19. “You are my friend, Hayden, but he is the man I am going to spend to rest of my life with - he is the man that I love. I will choose him over you, every fucking time.” Over anything and everything, Shane would choose Ilya. Even over hockey, if it came to that. There’s no doubt in his mind, no question about it. Losing hockey would hurt, and Shane would grieve it, but it wouldn’t kill him. It would be an ache he could live with. Losing Ilya is not something that Shane could ever survive. They’re so tangled together - so intertwined - that to lose Ilya would be to lose himself.

  20. “Do you want that problem to go away?” Ilya smiles sadly, “It probably would make things easier, wouldn’t it?” Shane doesn’t know how he keeps his expression neutral. He doesn’t know how the heartbreak doesn’t bloom vividly across his features. His entire chest feels as if it’s caving in on itself. He knew this moment was coming. He knew it was only a matter of time. That doesn’t make it hurt any less.
