  1. A snowstorm strands the Boston Bears in Montreal with not enough hotel rooms and nowhere to go in their rival’s city.
On a reckless impulse, Ilya volunteers to stay with Shane Hollander.
His teammates think it’s a joke.
    Shane plays along.
No one knows they were in the same bed just hours ago.

  2. A butterfly flapping its wings in one part of the world may cause a hurricane somewhere else.

A conversation with Rose Landry leads Shane Hollander to make a decision that he may ultimately live to regret. Far from the eye of the storm, he crashes along the waves, beaten down by wind and rain.

Ilya Rozanov lies in the eye of a hurricane. Sometimes he drifts just close enough to the horizon to get into trouble. Just dangerous enough to keep life interesting - enough to remind himself that he's still alive.

A safe harbor can be found for both, if they can only get there.

Or, Post Tuna-Meltdown but before All-Stars in Tampa, Shane comes out to the Metros and it does not go well. He comes up for air in Boston.

  3. Sequel to Breathing Room

Ilya Rozanov has spent five years holding Shane Hollander at arm’s length - not because he didn’t love him, but because he loved him too much to ask him to risk everything for something that could fall apart. He was good at that: the careful distance, the walls that looked like indifference, the way he’d learned to be close without being close. He’d had a lot of practice.

What he didn’t have practice for was what came after he was done lying to himself. He didn’t have practice for this - for something warm and bright and absolutely terrifying. Something that fits in the spaces between games and cities and the distance between Boston and Raleigh. Something that makes Ilya think, for the first time in a long time, that maybe the risk is worth it.

He just needs to figure out what to do with it all before their careers swallow them whole

He doesn’t get the chance to think about it for very long.

  4. So, I'm trying something a little different with this new installment in the series, and I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

As much as I adore M/M, I've always wanted to throw my hat into the very small pool of Female!Shane/Male!Ilya stories. I've also been itching to write the actor!Shane trope for quite some time, so I finally decided to combine the two.

Another reason I wanted to write this fic is that, while I absolutely love exploring Shane's Japanese heritage, I realized I've been neglecting Ilya's Russian heritage throughout this series. I wanted to give that side of him more attention here and explore it in a way I haven't before.

I really hope you'll give it a chance, and if you do, I'd love to hear what you think. I hope you enjoy it! ❤️

  5. “We want you to at least consider waiving your no-trade,” his general manager is saying, but the words barely register in Shane’s head. “Ahead of the playoffs, we want to make sure our team cohesion is as strong as possible, and there have been concerns about locker room dynamics . . .”

And of course there are. Of course that’s what this is about.

OR: When Shane comes out to the Voyageurs, a breakdown in team dynamics results in a last-minute trade to their divisional rival. In Boston, Shane and Ilya are forced to figure out whatever it is they're actually doing.

  6. Refusing to let Ilya ruin his career by signing with Ottawa, Shane chooses to really give their relationship a try and moves to Boston to live with Ilya and become a Raider. What follows is enough public scrutiny and backlash from his team that it has him questioning if he made the right decision. Until moments with Ilya and the Raiders show him exactly why he chose correctly. --- Hayden’s eyes flickered to Shane as he sat on the bench, chewing on the edge of his mouth guard. “Don’t fucking look at him,” Ilya insisted as he bent down for the faceoff. “Excuse me?” Hayden mumbled, eyes darting back to him. “You heard me,” he retorted, his tone clipped. “He’s not your teammate anymore; he’s mine. If you think Marlow is a problem to your game, wait until you see what I will do to your team if you hurt anyone on mine again.” Hayden scoffed, dipping his head as he tried to focus on the game. Something about Ilya’s words still rang through his head though, sounding so definitive that he didn’t want to risk seeing what he was actually referring to when he said that. The puck dropped again, and Ilya stole it before he could comprehend how quickly it happened.

  8. Farah, Shane, and his mom have a statement drafted by the end of the first period of the Boston v. Toronto game. By the time the Raiders are done showering and are pulled for post-game press, everyone with even a passing interest in professional hockey knows that Shane Hollander is an Unrestricted Free Agent looking for a new team.

Shane watched live as Ilya blinked stupidly, took a few seconds to process, and then quickly answered into the mic. This interview would gain millions of views over the coming months and would be cited as the source of the most chaotic social media rollercoaster the MLH ever had.

No one knew it then, but the Great MLH Seduction had officially begun.

Or: Ilya stays with the Boston Raiders instead of trading to Ottawa. This causes quite a few ripples when Shane finally ends his contract with Montreal.

Featuring: the Hollander Family's Spreadsheets(TM), professional hockey culture shifts, and a tasteful amount of fraud against the MLH.

  9. David Hollander doesn't walk in on them at the cottage. Instead Ilya gets a phone call that his brother has died and his niece is an orphan in need of his care. Ilya and Shane have to make a new plan to make space in their lives for a toddler.

Shane’s shoulders are shaking like he wants to be pacing or screaming or both but he’s holding himself in place on willpower alone, “You can’t risk being deported, not with a kid, not for any reason. And maybe it’ll be good for you, I mean you’ll need help, right? And she’ll help you? And if they ever suspected, I mean a wife, that’s good, right? Everyone thinks you’re straight anyways –”
“Stop.” Ilya doesn’t mean to sound so loud, so angry, but he’s been through too much in the last twenty minutes to modulate, especially in English, “We talked about this. We had a plan. I would not marry Svetlana.” Because I want to marry you, says the little secret voice inside of him that’s only recently gotten permission to be loud in his head.
Shane huffs, adorably annoyed, “Ilya, marry Svetlana. For your niece. You might not be in love with her, but you do love her, don’t you?”
    “I –” Ilya swallows thickly, “I do, but –”

  10. MONTREAL VOYAGEURS PASS ON HOLLANDER FOLLOWING FINALS INJURY
Despite being projected as at least a top-three pick, Shane Hollander slips to 57th overall after a Grade III ankle ligament tear sustained in the World Junior Hockey Championships earlier this year.

BOSTON BEARS SELECT ROZANOV FIRST OVERALL, HOLLANDER IN SECOND ROUND
Boston bets on two of juniors' most electric players; one a sure thing, one a gamble. The Bears have never minded those.

Shane Hollander did not get drafted to Montreal. He gets drafted to Boston, fifty-seventh overall, after #1 draft pick, Ilya Rozanov. He has a plan for that. The plan does not account for Ilya Rozanov being the way that Ilya Rozanov is.

  11. “I feel really good about this kid, I think he could be great on your wing, he just needs some help settling in. Someone to show him the ropes.”

    “Yes.”

The line went silent for a moment. Ilya wasn’t really sure why his coach felt the need to run this by him.

“Rozanov,” his coach said at last. “I want him to live with you.”

Ilya blinked, then nearly shouted into the phone. “What?”

When a poorly timed phone call and an open window leads Shane's parents to a massive misunderstanding, he's stuck pretending he's still dating Rose. Which works fine for a month, until Ilya's jealousy starts to flare and Shane's parents witness a fight entirely different from the one they have on the ice.

    ---
"See? Shane's probably just in the kitchen,” Yuna murmured softly, putting her purse down on the side table beside the door. “Maybe he’s—”

“Okay, you were maybe telling me the truth,” a voice suddenly called, cutting her off before she could finish her sentence. “At least partially.”

Yuna frowned, the deep, accented voice catching her off guard. Before she could piece together where she recognized the voice from, though, she saw Ilya Rozanov walking through her son’s apartment. He was barefoot, his hair slightly damp and his clothes casual. Sweatpants and a white T-shirt that clung to him after a shower.

From the kitchen, David heard his sons’ voice ring out, too. “What do you mean partially?” Shane responded, gesturing at his phone as Ilya showed him something on it. “That’s exactly what I told you.”

  14. “Did Boston Lily send you all these flowers? Shane??” Hayden asks.

    “Um,” Shane says helpfully.

Or, Shane gets hurt in the Boston vs. Montreal game. Ilya crashes out and buys all the lilies in Boston for him.

    No one knows about them.

Except for Ilya’s new florist, who never asked to get involved in dumb hockey boys and their messy drama. Also, Cliff is a good friend.
