  1. SHANE: Lily.
    LILY: Hello
    SHANE: Dead to me.
    What the actual fuck?
    LILY: ??
SHANE: what. The. Hell. Did. You. Do.
    LILY: ahh
    I am in trouble
    Yes?

Or Ilya's teammates add "Jane" to the Boston WAG group chat in the height of their "no, we aren't falling in love, whatever do you mean" era (2014-2016-ish?).

  2. A smutty ghost story by Calico

Inspired by this incredible tumblr post.

"It's got good bones," Shane said, to everyone who would listen, forestalling their totally valid concerns about depreciation and the novelty wearing off and like, subsidence. Boring stuff that Shane did not care about today because this was Ilya Rozanov's house. This was the actual house that Rozanov lived and died in, all those years ago. The man, the legend, and now – technically, if someone wanted to think of it like that, and Shane did – the roommate!

  3. After the tuna meltdown, Shane's plan to win Ilya back in Tampa is a spectacular failure. The cottage never happens.
So what's left? Rolex still want him at Wimbledon, so why not spend summer in Europe?
And he'll be sitting next to a Swedish princess.

Except...The princess turns out to be a Swedish prince. Very charming, very hot, and very gay. And very much into Shane.

When the photos hit the internet, Ilya is going to have some feelings about that. And way more than Rose Landry to worry about.

Or: Ilya Rozanov is about to find out what happens when you tell Shane Hollander you're nothing to each other and then have to watch him move on.

Ilya leaned back against the headboard, eyes on the ceiling. Attraction was dangerous. It clouded judgment, created attachments, left openings for mistakes. He had been trained to compartmentalize: duty first, always. Emotions were liabilities and yet…
The image of Shane spotting him—close enough to feel the heat off his body, voice steady and low—lingered. The casual strength in his hands when he’d yanked the pin free. The way he’d said “good form” like it mattered, like Ilya mattered in that moment.
Ilya exhaled slowly, forcing the thoughts down. He was here for a mission, not a life. Whatever briefing came next would demand focus. Shane Hollander was a variable, nothing more. A ticket to a hockey game. A potential networking opportunity if the target turned out to be a fan. That was all.

Or: Ilya Rozanov is a sleeper agent for Russia and all is well until Shane Hollander enters his life. Now Ilya must choose whether serving his country is worth a life of solitude.

  5. “I think you don’t hate me as much as you want to. I think you’re curious about me. I think-” Ilya leans in, voice dropping even lower. “I think you watch my highlights. Late at night, when no one is looking.”

Shane Hollander is bred for greatness: son of a future Prime Minister, Canada’s golden boy, first overall pick. Ilya Rozanov is Russia’s answer: the President’s son, cocky and brilliant, everything Shane is supposed to beat.

Their rivalry begins at seventeen with an overtime goal and a blown kiss. It evolves in hotel rooms and stolen hours between games they’re supposed to hate each other through. For seven years, they hide what they are while the world watches them compete, until one catastrophic hit forces Ilya to make an impossible choice in front of twenty thousand people.

What starts as Cold War propaganda becomes something neither of them can control. And when you’re in love with your rival, winning and losing stop meaning what they used to.

  6. “We knew when his words came in that he’d–” Yuna’s voice cracked around the idea, that specific word escaping her. “That he won’t have to know what it feels like to lose his soulmate.”

Because Shane was always going to go first. How must it have felt, to look upon her son and see those words, and know with complete certainty he would go first? Maybe it was better, having as vague of a word as Ilya did on his chest. At least he couldn’t think about it, couldn’t imagine scenarios in which it could be said.

“I assume,” Yuna said, pausing to take a deep breath as though to steel herself, “he said yours last night.”

Ilya nodded, admitting what he didn’t dare say out loud.

AU where the last words you ever hear from your soulmate are tattooed on your chest. Ilya and Shane still argue over the party, Ilya still already chose Shane, and everything goes so much worse after Shane leaves.

  7. When Roz starts speaking, frantically letting out Russian words from his hospital bed, Troy jumps in fear. “Ty emu uzhe pozvonila? Gde mama?” While Troy might not know Russian, or any other Slavic language that might have offered him some sort of context, he understands the word for mother. His heart clenches in his chest. Calling for your mom, especially when you’re hurt and confused feels instinctive. Troy is pretty sure he’d do the same thing. But the thought of coming out of your dazed state while desperately wanting your mom, and the loss of your mom coming crashing down on you must be a different type of agony. Roz starts speaking again, Russian coming to him easier than English must. “Mama? Gde moya mama?”

  10. God, he was having a freak out and it was gonna be a bad one. “I can’t do this I can’t do this. I can’t I can’t. why?! I can’t! I can’t.” Shane was sobbing. He could breathe he couldn’t hear. His whole body was burning. Not like on fire, but it was tingling. Like an energy was trying to escape him from all directions. Like anxiety was trying to seep out of every pore in his skin. Or Shane has a really bad meltdown during a game.

  12. “You wrote about us having sex while Hayden watches!”

“Fictional us,” Ilya corrects. “Real us would never do that. Probably.” He pauses. “Unless …”

    “No!”

Ilya Rozanov has always been competitive. But when his husband’s best friend starts calling a little too often, Ilya discovers a new arena for dominance: Archive of Our Own.

Armed with a pseudonym that fools absolutely no one, explicit tags that would make a sailor blush, and a truly impressive commitment to pettiness, Ilya wages psychological warfare one kudos at a time. His weapon of choice? Extremely detailed fanfiction about why Hayden Pike will never, ever measure up.

    The problem? Hayden writes back.

What follows is the most unhinged rivalry in hockey history: a battle fought not with fists or slapshots, but with comment sections, kudos, and increasingly creative ways to humiliate each other in front of thousands of readers. Featuring: footnoted statistics, educational sex advice, one very concerned wife, and Shane Hollander wondering what the hell he did to deserve this.
