  1. 12:00 AM- January 1st, 2004, 12 years old. Ilya clumsily shifts forward, knocking their noses together. Shane's breath hitches at the contact. Then all he feels is Ilya’s lips making contact with the corner of his mouth. All his senses leave his body. His mind is blank. The only things that exists are hazel eyes, golden curls, and the Russian boy in front of him, whose lips feel soft against Shane's or Shane and Ilya meet at boarding school in Canada in 2003. They would die for each other, they are best friends...they are also totally in love with one another and are just too stubborn and scared to admit it out loud.

  2. Three years isn't that long, really. It's long enough to get a Master's Degree in Art History. Long enough to build the foundations of a relationship that could last the rest of their lives. Long enough for a professional hockey player to figure out how to tell the world he's gay.

Shane immediately makes his move to lock down the boy he’s had a crush on all this time, before it’s too late. 5. Despite his size, Misha has always been known to be gentle. But, the moment you mess with his sisters, he'll show you how gentle of a giant he is. OR: Shane and Ilya's eldest son is overly protective of his sisters. (This is a one-shot spinoff of my original it's always been you. It may be read as a standalone but will be much better understood if the complete series is read first.) 4 Years Old Just as Shane and Ilya had predicted, Misha turned out to be a large toddler. It wasn’t surprising considering both of his dads were tall. He stood nearly a head taller than his peers at daycare and was extremely fast on his long legs when he wanted to. Despite this, it seemed that Misha didn’t like to take up very much space. His daycare teachers always remarked that Misha liked to keep to himself, preferring to do activities by himself over group activities. This wasn’t a huge surprise to either of them as Misha was a little man of few words, but once he started talking, there was no stopping him. He would have these bursts of energy where his mouth was powered by a motor and he would go on and on. Shane lived for these moments. Sitting on the couch together, Shane sank deeper into the cushions as Misha sprawled out beside him. Even though he had just woken up minutes earlier, Misha traced shapes along Shane’s large stomach and kicked his legs as he expressed his excitement: “hello baby. Is me, your big brother. I so excited for you to come. Daddy says will be long time before I meet you. Can you please come soon?” “Hopefully not too soon, Malyshka,” Shane huffed out a laugh. He still had one more month to go before baby girl was coming. “Okay, not too soon, baby. But still soon. Papa and Daddy say I was big baby so it was ouchie for Daddy when I camed out. Please don’t make Daddy ouchie. He is very good daddy so I don’ want him to hurt.” Shane’s heart soared as he listened to his baby talk. He really did try his best to take care of Misha to the best of his ability, so it was beyond nice to hear that he was doing okay. Gently, Shane ran his hands through Misha’s soft, dark chestnut curls. “I show you how good Daddy and Papa are. I show you all of my toys and books. We read together at night for story time. Maybe I take you to school and show you to everyone in my class for show and tell. They will be so-uhh Daddy what do I say for when people want what I has?” Shane pressed his lips together to not show how overly emotional he was getting. “I think the best word to use here is ‘jealous.’” “Yeah, jealous. Everyone in my class will be so jealous that I has baby sister. I no share you with them, but I share everything I has with you, baby.” “That’s so nice of you, Misha.” Shane stopped trying to hide his emotions so tears ran down his face. There was no point in trying anyways. He was heavily pregnant and his baby already loved his sister so much. Suddenly, Misha crawled to his feet and held both sides of Shane’s face with his warm little hands. “Don’t cry, Daddy. I sorry. I didn’t want to make you cry.” “It’s okay, Daddy is not sad. These are happy tears.” Misha immediately peppered Shane’s face with several kisses just as he’d seen his papa do multiple times. He left little splotches of his saliva over Shane’s face but Shane didn’t mind it at all. His baby boy already knew so much about love and kindness at such a young age that he didn’t know what to do with himself. “Uh-oh, someone is trying to steal Daddy away from me,” Ilya’s groggy voice came from behind them. Ilya came into the living room only wearing his boxers, leaving his body out on display for Shane. It wasn’t fair to Shane that his fiancé looked like a grecian statue even straight out of bed. Because they had a toddler and a baby on the way, Shane couldn’t do half of the things he wanted to do with Ilya anymore, but it was a bitter price that he was more than willing to pay. “Daddy crying so I make him happy,” Misha replied, still holding onto Shane’s face. “Happy tears, Ilya,” Shane immediately supplemented. “Our malyshka is just being way too sweet.” Just as Ilya tried to pick Misha up to give him his morning hug, Misha let out a small snarl. “I wanna stay with Daddy. I have to stay with him and sis.” “Why is that?” Ilya laughed, surprised at his son’s actions. “I protect,” Misha said with the most determined face that Shane had ever seen him make. “Protect us from what, Malyshka?” Shane asked. “Everything.” “Okay then. You protect your daddy and sister while I go start making breakfast.” Shane sat on the sofa for several more minutes, listening to Misha’s fantasies of being a big brother. He was utterly fixated on protecting his sister until Misha decided that Papa’s eggs and bacon sounded more important. ~~~ Marina Yuna Hollander-Rozanov came into the world at thirty-five weeks, far earlier than anyone could have predicted. According to Dr. Patel, sometimes babies naturally came early and it seemed like Shane didn’t have any conditions that could have caused it. Born at five pounds and five ounces, Mari was immediately admitted into the NICU so that she could be treated for her respiratory issues and jaundice. If Shane and Ilya weren’t already broken hearted enough, the moment they saw Misha’s crumple up upon seeing their hospital room void of their sister sealed the deal for them. Ilya had never seen his son make such a sorrowful face before. Even when Misha’s favourite

  6. The week before the 2017 All-Star Game, Ilya Rozanov is placed on IR. Ten days later, he disappears from the league entirely. Boston says nothing, and for once, a notoriously fickle league closes ranks.

Every attempt Shane makes to find him hits a wall. In one last desperate, life-altering bid to reach him, Shane comes out to the world, only to be met with Ilya’s silence.

By the time the 2020/21 season begins, Shane has nothing left but hockey and regret. He builds a dynasty, guts his life, and pins the last scraps of his hope on the Metros’ newest transfer, the dangerously hot-headed Cliff Marlow.

Stepping back into the public eye after the worst three years of his life, all Ilya wants is to find some kind of purpose. Shane is done with him, he made that much clear. Ilya isn't about to try to convince himself otherwise. He just wants to prove he still has some use left in him.

Fortunately for both of them, they're still fucking stupid for each other.

“Aren’t you that way?” Scotty was standing in front of the elevator, pointing to the right. Which was fair, because Eric’s room was indeed at that end of the hall.

“Nope,” Eric said and kept walking.

Or, just how similar were Jane and Hollander, and how did Roz end up with what was a carbon copy of the same person? The lucky asshole.

  14. This is a sorta fix-it. For when Scott asks Kip to move in with him he forgot the simple fact that his door has always more closely resembled a revolving one as people come and go bringing their problems with them and the Good Captain Scott Hunter fixes them as best as he can. Allowing for Kip to have the opportunity to be brought closer to Scott's hockey world and allows him to better understand what Scott is really risking in regards to coming out while still playing hockey. Also, helps to break down that Scott only sees his value in his usefulness and Kip is determined to make him understand that his value is inherent just by existing and is NOT a reward he gets from helping others.

Vaughny also pops up a lot. He's clueless but he's got heart... and tacos

  19. Ilya Rozanov has spent ten years circling Shane Hollander. Ten years of hotel rooms and secret phone calls. Ten years of pretending he doesn't feel it, doesn't need it, doesn't wake up reaching for someone who's already gone. Ten years convincing himself he's not good enough. That he's not worth it.

Then a plane needs to make an emergency landing near Montreal, and Yuna Hollander is on it.

So when Shane calls him from a bathroom floor, unable to breathe, Ilya stops pretending.

After five hundred miles of frozen highway, three and a half hours of driving like a man possessed, a hospital waiting room full of people who have every reason to hate him, and a boy who looks at him like he's something worth keeping, Ilya may have learned a thing or two about what it means to be loved—and to let himself love freely.
