  2. This is a sorta fix-it. For when Scott asks Kip to move in with him he forgot the simple fact that his door has always more closely resembled a revolving one as people come and go bringing their problems with them and the Good Captain Scott Hunter fixes them as best as he can. Allowing for Kip to have the opportunity to be brought closer to Scott's hockey world and allows him to better understand what Scott is really risking in regards to coming out while still playing hockey. Also, helps to break down that Scott only sees his value in his usefulness and Kip is determined to make him understand that his value is inherent just by existing and is NOT a reward he gets from helping others.

Vaughny also pops up a lot. He's clueless but he's got heart... and tacos

Majority of the chapters are General Audience, the ones that are Explicit will be noted in the Author's Note at the beginning of a chapter.

  3. Ilya Rozanov always knew that Shane Hollander carried the Montreal Metros on his shoulders, but when the whole world gets to see the same thing, the game changes.
And having to watch his boyfriend exhaust himself playing practically alone while his teammates ignore him makes anger bubble in Ilya's chest.
But it's at his own press conference that things... heat up.

    OR,
Ilya's POV interview after the Centaurs' victory and Shane's stumble, in which the author continues to rant about the Montreal Metros/Voyageurs being assholes.

  4. Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov are solid.

Married. Stable. Established. The NHL’s favorite “we didn’t see that coming” love story turned domestic success.

They have a house. A dog that likes Ilya better. A shared calendar that Shane actually uses.

They’ve learned how to grocery shop without arguing about brands of pasta.

    They are, objectively, fine.

    Which is precisely the problem.

Somewhere between sponsorship shoots, playoff runs, and arguing over whose turn it is to unload the dishwasher, the fire that once burned hot enough to survive secrecy and rivalry has… softened. Not gone. Not broken. Just familiar.
    Comfortable. Predictable.

When a league marketing campaign crowns them “Hockey’s Ultimate Love Story” and assigns a documentary crew to follow them around for the season, Shane jokingly tells Ilya:
“Guess you’re going to have to fall in love with me again on camera.”

Ilya smirks. “Please. I could make you fall in love with me again in one week.”

    It’s a joke.

    Until it becomes a challenge.

  5. After stumbling and falling in the game against the Centaurs, Shane is accused by his teammates and the Montreal Metros management team of throwing the game to Ilya as a result of their relationship being exposed after the FanMail incident.
Shane is forced to give a post-game interview in the midst of a dissociative episode.
Until an incriminating question from a reporter causes the rubber band inside him to snap, and Shane says all the things he shouldn't say.
    Except that he actually should.

  6. With a childhood spent with his mother cowering from his father and his adult life jumping from one-night stand to one-night stand when he isn't chirping people on the ice, Ilya never learned to have an argument with someone without laughing it off or ruining the relationship entirely.
His parents argued constantly, and his father had been cruel about it, too. He never wants to be like that, he'd rather die than hurt Shane, and the thought of Shane figuring out that he could do better than Ilya with his messed up mind and awful manners and leaving him is his worst nightmare...

  7. With a smirk, he extends his hand to encircle Ilya's wrist, his thumb grazing the tattoo's edge, having committed the placement to memory. He looks ahead into the buzzing sea of microphones, cameras, lights, and reporters. The image they must make on camera is undoubtedly counterproductive. Ilya towering behind him, encasing him between his arms on each side of the table, glaring into the room of reporters that had dared to attack their integrity. “I believe the last question was about possible disciplinary actions against us?” In which, following his final Boston game before moving to Canada, Ilya flaunts his new tattoo during an interview. Years later, the world finally learns who it really stands for.

Rozanov took another drag of his cigarette and glanced away from Scott, smile fading. “I have… certain reputation, yes?”

Scott nodded, partially because it was true—Ilya Rozanov was one of the most notorious men in the league—and partially because Scott was curious where he was going with this.

Rozanov ashed his cigarette and glared down at the sparks as they fell. “Is not accident. My reputation. Is for safety. Protective.” He shrugged. “Is not all untrue—I am asshole, I am proud to be asshole. But… I am maybe not quite the person you think I am.”

“Yuna,” his mom said, grabbing Ilya’s hand, which was still outstretched. She looked up at the smiling man. “Sorry, I just- I didn’t know Shane had a, uh, a boyfriend.” That somehow got Shane’s focus back again. Air flew back into his lungs as he opened his mouth. Everything came out louder than intended. Was he screaming? He might be. Maybe not? Who knew. Not him, that was for sure. His brain was fried. “No, no, no. Mom, it’s not, we’re not. Rozanov is not my boyfriend!” “Yet,” Ilya filled in. And Shane stopped breathing again. -------- College Shane brings a hook up to his parents house. 11. Shane and Ilya's wedding had been perfect. Maybe not in the literal sense, much to Shane's chagrin, but despite the forgotten first dance song and the constant happy tears welling up between them, neither would change the day for a thing. On a purely selfish note, though- Ilya wishes they'd kept more of the cake to themselves. / (Or, Ilya and Shane's vanilla wedding cake gets shared during some very not vanilla sex.)

  12. "On the ice, he acted quick. Found the puck fast, moved to the net faster. Years of experience had honed his reflexes into second nature. But here, off the ice, wearing ROZANOV on his back like some doe-eyed puck bunny in the stands, his brain short-circuited completely." Or: Shane accidentally wears Ilya’s shirt into the locker room. “Oh.” Ilya rested his head back on the pillow, looking over at Shane. “So you are the asshole.” A wide smile stayed frozen on Shane’s face. He couldn’t help it. “No, it’s still you.” “No, it’s not me.” Ilya feigned offense, thumb stabbing toward Shane. “You’re the asshole.” He sat up an inch and cupped his hands around his mouth. “Everyone! Shane Hollander is an asshole!” Shane’s grin was starting to hurt his cheeks, his laughter coming easier than it had in months. He gave Ilya a playful shove, sending him tumbling back into the pillows. In an accent that had begun to fade, Ilya added, “I am feeling too good to lose tonight, anyway.” “Oh yeah?” Shane turned onto his side, propped on an elbow. “’Cause I’m feeling pretty good too.” “No shit,” Ilya murmured, sliding a hand beneath the sheets to squeeze Shane’s thigh, spurring an echo of pleasure that still clung to the edges of his mind. Sunlight soaked their bare chests, a rarity when their time together was usually isolated to late nights and unfamiliar hotel rooms. It felt better than Shane was willing to admit. Almost normal. The thought sobered him. In reality, they were both supposed to be on the ice in a few short hours. He grabbed his phone from the nightstand, eyes widening. “Shit, Ilya. We’re late.” Ilya’s eyelids had gone heavy, an arm flung over his face. “Hm?” “I need to get back to my hotel for pickup,” Shane hissed, kicking the sheets aside. Behind him, Ilya groaned, long and dramatic. How he’d earned the captaincy with his complete indifference to punctuality baffled Shane. Then again, no one seemed to mind when he kept dragging Boston to victory night after night. It took effort not to marvel at him in those brief moments from the bench, the way he made it all look effortless. Their clothes lay in a heap by the bedroom door. He hadn’t even folded them. Shane scooped up half the pile and tossed it across the room, a pant leg smacking Ilya in the cheek. “Sorry.” “Liar,” Ilya groaned, expression pinched as he slipped free of the sheets and stretched, arms reaching overhead. Shane was already tugging on his sweats, shirt slung over his arm, when he caught sight of Ilya dangling off the edge of the mattress. Light brown curls stood in every direction, a faint sheen still clung to the dip of his spine, a wrinkle pressed into his skin. For a moment, panic gave way to something softer. There were few things he allowed to disrupt his routine, and Ilya had held the top spot since they were eighteen. Shane crossed the room in a few long strides, leaning in to press a firm kiss to his lips. “See you soon, Rozanov.” Ilya’s hand came up, cupping the back of his neck and pulling him closer, deepening it. "Stop trying to distract me,” he murmured against Ilya’s mouth. “Stop trying to leave,” Ilya countered, fingers twisting into Shane’s hair, tugging lightly. It was almost enough to convince Shane to crawl onto his lap and see how quickly they could fit in round two. Or was it three? Shane bit back a sigh. “Tonight?” Ilya’s jaw ticked. “Tonight.” The distance Shane was forced to put between them had grown harder to bear lately, recent confessions weaving new threads into place. He’d ask him soon, about the cottage. Two uninterrupted weeks, no deadlines, no schedules breathing down their necks. Ilya would probably say no. But what if he didn’t? “Go,” Ilya said at last, breaking the kiss. Part of Shane was grateful, because he wasn’t sure he had the willpower to do it himself. The absence of Ilya’s touch settled in immediately, a dull ache that followed him as he turned for the door. There was a mindset Shane liked to settle into before a game, and he was struggling to reach it. It was clouded, inevitably, by the memory of Ilya’s hands roaming over bare skin, teeth at his neck, the way he’d murmured filthy encouragement as they found their rhythm and slipped into Russian when they lost it. Maybe it was for the best that they didn’t make a habit of afternoon meetings. This was torture. Traffic was thick, and Shane tapped his fingers against the steering wheel, eyes flicking to the clock again and again. Was time moving faster today? By the time he’d parked and sprinted up to his hotel room, there was barely enough time to pull on dress pants and shrug into a high-end suit jacket over a wrinkled shirt. It didn’t quite meet dress code, but he’d rather take the hit for that than further fuel Hayden’s theory that he’d been late because he was with a woman named Lily. A woman Shane had vehemently denied existed. His protests had sounded less convincing lately, and maybe he’d stopped caring if they did. Theriault waited outside the bus, and Shane was already apologizing before the coach could get a word in. “My bad, Coach.” “First for everything I suppose,” Theriault grunted, giving him a look that lingered somewhere between concern and curiosity. Shane was the captain. He was supposed to set

  17. Ilya hasn't seen Shane in a few weeks, since he ran out of Ilya's house after he called him by his name. It sucks, but Ilya's mostly handling it. He's mostly handling it until they end up at some stupid MHL banquet thing and he sees Shane smiling with some girl at the bar. Shane's embarrassed, was overwhelmed by Ilya calling him his name because they didn't do that. And he didn't handle it great, and maybe dating a girl right after wasn't the move, but Shane was stressed. He and Rose broke up, because she realized he was gay and Shane felt sort of like an ass even though she said they could still be friends. And he was dealing with it, sort of, mostly he was just trying to avoid it. Until his coach told him he had to be at a banquet and he saw Ilya across the room, then he was drinking a nasty tasting red wine and trying not to look his way. OR Shane and Ilya haven't talked since Shane ran out of Ilya's apartment, neither of them is planning on talking either, until Shane gets roofied at some official MHL banquet and Ilya takes care of him.

He doesn’t know how he got back to the hotel, or what he did the entire night. Because he sure as shit didn’t sleep. Hell, he doesn’t even know how he made it to the Montreal hospital. All he knows now is that he’s standing in front of a help desk waiting for the receptionist to look up Hollander’s room number.
