Ilya was barely back from the World Juniors and had barely met Shane Hollander when his hockey career was taken from him. He was so close to escaping everything in Russia, only to be caught by his brother, ruined by his father, and forced to marry Svetlana to escape.
Now he's finally on his own, with his shitty studio apartment, his shitty job as a facilities tech in the Raider's Stadium, and his overall shitty life. Nothing could get worse from here, and he has no reason to think it'll get better. Until he runs into Shane fucking Hollander while smoking behind a club, maybe he could get a second chance with the man he's been secretly crushing on for years?

Recovery isn't linear.
Knowing this, and believing it, are two different things.Shane moves to Ottawa, ready to finally spend time with his soulmate, properly. Maybe the excitement is why he doesn't always notice.
Ilya wins the Cup with Shane at his side, but it doesn't matter as much as it should have. Not when his body hurts and his mind is fragile and he feels one moment away from collapse.
Timeline goes back and forth, but we start off one year after the events of the previous story.
In the end, everything will be okay.- Part 3 of This is Love

The week before the 2017 All-Star Game, Ilya Rozanov is placed on IR. Ten days later, he disappears from the league entirely. Boston says nothing, and for once, a notoriously fickle league closes ranks.
Every attempt Shane makes to find him hits a wall. In one last desperate, life-altering bid to reach him, Shane comes out to the world, only to be met with Ilya’s silence.
By the time the 2020/21 season begins, Shane has nothing left but hockey and regret. He builds a dynasty, guts his life, and pins the last scraps of his hope on the Metros’ newest transfer, the dangerously hot-headed Cliff Marlow.
Stepping back into the public eye after the worst three years of his life, all Ilya wants is to find some kind of purpose. Shane is done with him, he made that much clear. Ilya isn't about to try to convince himself otherwise. He just wants to prove he still has some use left in him.
Fortunately for both of them, they're still fucking stupid for each other.

“I will be quick,” Ilya’s voice was unusually quiet. “I wanted to ask…”
“What?” Shane imagined all manner of questions. How are you? Will you ever get better? Is this the life you’re living now, really? Shane fucking Hollander, podcaster? Aren’t you ashamed of this pathetic existence?
“I wanted to ask you out.”
Shane’s brain stopped. He blinked. He might have swayed. “Out where?”
“Out on date.”
“What?”Years later, after winning cups that should have gone to Montreal, Ilya hears Shane Hollander's voice again. On the popular podcast Man in the Crease.

Shane Hollander loved Ilya Rozanov, so much that it was going to kill him. He has to make the most of the time he has left after the Olympics, before the roots really take hold. AKA your basic Hanahaki Disease fic, full of pining, mild body horror, sex, and eventually some well-earned comfort.

On good days it was a low pressure system, dull and manageable. On bad days it rolled in without notice, sharp enough to steal his breath for a second, but never long enough to justify leaving the ice. He felt the creeping increase like the buzz of static in the air before a thunderstorm, the way you could detect rain in the air long before it fell. There was a quiet pride in that, even if he didn’t like to admit it. // 5 times Shane hides a chronic flare-up, and the 1 time he lets himself get looked after.

Shane Hollander is anxious. He thinks he might have been tense since the day he was born, and it shows. He’s constantly rolling his shoulders or massaging some limb that he just can’t rid of soreness or tension. He is Shane Hollander, of course, so he’s seen the best massage therapists that money can buy, but nothing ever seems to stick. He’ll get a week or two of relief, but he’ll always feel the tension seeping back in. It’s always worse when he has more interviews or shoots, which makes it obvious to Shane that he needs to cut back, but it isn’t that simple.
