An AU where Shane and Ilya meet in very different circumstances. Ilya’s a generational talent, a star and recognised wherever he goes thanks to his talent on stage and the lucrative magazine and advertising contracts his fame brings him. He lives his life in Boston as best he can but recently someone has taken against him and while the threatening letters were unpleasant they didn’t bother him much. He was more bothered by the knife in his side that stopped him performing for months, but now he’s healed and due on stage in a few hours. He hopes he can still make it because he hadn’t been expecting a stranger with uncertain motives to approach him in a deserted alley. When he finds out exactly who he is his life gets much more complicated. Ilya Rozanov has various problems in his life but right now the most pressing one is the dark haired freckled man who’s crashed into his life.

Three years isn't that long, really. It's long enough to get a Master's Degree in Art History. Long enough to build the foundations of a relationship that could last the rest of their lives. Long enough for a professional hockey player to figure out how to tell the world he's gay.

Since Shane Hollander’s painful public outing, things clearly haven’t been right with the Voyageurs. Still, everyone is shocked when Shane gets himself traded to the Ottawa Centaurs.
Shane can’t completely explain it, to be honest, not in a way anyone else understands. He just knows this: he lost Ilya, lost the Voyageurs, lost his privacy and his choice. But hockey is still the love of Shane’s life. And he’s not going to lose that, too.

“You speak Russian?” Ilya’s voice is simultaneously incredulous and thrilled, like he can’t quite believe it, but he’s excited all the same.
Hayden shakes his head, shrugging, still rocking Amber. “Uh, not really? I only know a few words and phrases here and there from my Deda and Baba. I understand it more than I can speak it.”
Ilya’s eyes somehow get wider. “Deda and Baba- You have Russian grandparents? You are Russian?!”
“I guess? Technically?”

Hayden Pike never really talks about his mom's family. Ilya finds out why and decides he simply *must* fix this.
He is going to teach Hayden Pike how to be Russian, whether Hayden likes it or not.

MONTREAL VOYAGEURS PASS ON HOLLANDER FOLLOWING FINALS INJURY
Despite being projected as at least a top-three pick, Shane Hollander slips to 57th overall after a Grade III ankle ligament tear sustained in the World Junior Hockey Championships earlier this year.BOSTON BEARS SELECT ROZANOV FIRST OVERALL, HOLLANDER IN SECOND ROUND
Boston bets on two of juniors' most electric players; one a sure thing, one a gamble. The Bears have never minded those.Shane Hollander did not get drafted to Montreal. He gets drafted to Boston, fifty-seventh overall, after #1 draft pick, Ilya Rozanov. He has a plan for that. The plan does not account for Ilya Rozanov being the way that Ilya Rozanov is.

Scott was speaking again before he could gather himself enough to back down. You fucking heard me, Hollander.
Next thing he knew, he was fighting Shane Hollander. Or, more accurately, being fought by Shane Hollander, because Scott was so stunned by the fact that Shane fucking Hollander was fighting him to even really do anything to defend himself.
And now, at whatever stupid time of the night, Shane Hollander is standing outside his hotel room door, having just knocked softly.
"Get in here, kid," Scott says. "Let's talk."After his fight with Shane on the ice, Scott learns more about the soft spot he'd hit, and Shane realises he might have found a safe space to talk about what's going on with him and Rozanov.

[An image of Ilya Rozanov from 2016, leaving a nightclub in Boston. He is flanked on either side by two women. His right arm is casually slung around the shoulders of one, while the other holds onto his left arm. He is winking at the camera.]
@NHLInsider It’s been a rough week for Ilya Rozanov after a storybook start to the season. After suffering bruised ribs during Ottawa’s game against Montreal on Thursday, now one of his former flames has come forward claiming he was a less-than-stellar partner.
TikTok user @bostonbethany posted a video on Saturday detailing her encounter with Rozanov back in 2017. She says he didn’t pay for her drinks, was constantly checking his phone, could barely make conversation after leading her to believe he was interested in a relationship, failed to satisfy her in the bedroom after trying for nearly an hour, and never called her again.
This comes as Rozanov is out for at least two weeks with his injury, while the Centaurs, including his husband Shane Hollander, head to Berlin for two games against Detroit as part of the NHL’s Global Series.
We’ll let you know if we hear anything back from Rozanov’s camp.
