  1. The Centaurs rookies go for a "special walk" during one of Bood's bonfires. Chaos and gayness ensue.

    OR,

This is a one shot from my larger fic, "Growing Outward", which is basically book 7 of the Game Changers series if it was about Luca Haas. In that fic, Luca moves in with Ilya for his rookie year and slowly gets adopted by Hollanov. He also starts to develop a crush on fellow rookie, Eric Young. Some people wanted some scenes from Eric's perspective, so here we are!

This scene is briefly alluded to in Chapter 13: Navigating of "Growing Outward" from Ilya's perspective, but this can be also read as a cute stand-alone fic if you really wanted to.

    Hope you enjoy :)

  2. He went silent again, his brow furrowed so hard it looked painful. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. He stood up, his hockey gear clanking loudly. "I have it. I see on internet. A man. He has jar. He has bubbles." Shane blinked. "Bubbles? Like... a fish?" "No," Ilya said, pacing the room like a caged bear. "He make life from dust. He mix powder and water. He wait. He feed it like baby. Then... BREAD." "Oh so baking, you want to try baking bread?" Shane asked skeptically. "Not just bake, Shane. Sourdough. Is complex. Is science. Is war with yeast." Ilya's voice grew passionate, his Russian accent thickening. "It is sour, like my childhood. It is hard crust, like my heart."

  3. “Have you talked to her about it?”

Shane shook his head but otherwise didn’t make a sound.

Hayden set his beer down and used the hand that held the beer to rub his face as if that would give him some extra clarity to the situation.

“Do you want it to be more? It’s ok to want more, you know? Maybe she wants the same.”

Shane shook his head again. “Maybe. Yes. I don’t know. But I can’t.” He felt so stupid not knowing his own thoughts. Everything was starting to feel closed in again. It was getting harder for him to breathe.

    ---

Shane spirals after Rozanov calls him baby for the first time and gets love and support from the friend he knows he can count on. (And comes out on his own without needing Rose Landry.)

Set before the Tuna Melt Incident(™). Featuring a wise and mature Hayden, because he’s actually the one in a healthy, successful long-term relationship in canon.

  4. Ilya ignored the request from the NHL twice. The first time they asked through his agent, the second time the director of marketing called his personal number directly. He never got along with the league as a player, and he certainly didn't need to make them happy now.

The next attempt to reach him was harder to ignore. A phone call from an unknown number. A voicemail that made his blood run cold.

"Hi Ilya. This is Rose Landry. We've never met, but Shane speaks so highly of you. I think the NHL has been trying to get in touch. Shane said you probably wouldn't talk to them. But...think about it, ok? I know it would mean a lot to him."

The final request crumbled his resolve. The caller ID blinked "Jane," and Ilya stared at it.

  5. Shane is frozen, staring at Ilya and the girl. He can’t be sure how much time goes by. He isn’t even sure what he’s doing there, what he’s waiting for. He and Ilya stare at each other. The girl writhes against Ilya, oblivious; he presses his mouth to her neck, his eyes on Shane. Shane’s stomach turns. He cannot look away.

Or, the club scene with a different, more complicated ending.

  6. This is how it was supposed to go: Ilya Rozanov, all of 17 years old, would win gold for Russia at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Saskatchewan — and he did. Then, just after his 18th birthday, he would return to North America for the NHL entry draft and get picked first overall by the Montreal Voyageurs. He defeated Canada’s golden boy Shane Hollander on the ice, and was widely expected to beat him in the draft too.

But that’s not how it went.

What would have happened in that hotel gym if Shane had been drafted first overall?

  8. “Look, I know I’m boring. And lame and… weird. I just… can you not say it? Every time? Or at least not every ten seconds.” And suddenly Ilya saw the way Shane was trying to fold in on himself. Like he wanted to hide the parts of his life he had just let Ilya see. Now it looked like he regretted letting Ilya in. Or he expected him to laugh. Or leave. He crossed the room. “Shane.” Shane shook his head once. “I’m sorry. Forget it.” “No,” Ilya said gently, crouching in front of him. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. I was teasing. I didn’t realize.” He paused, then said more firmly, “you’re not boring.” Shane scoffed under his breath. “I mean it,” Ilya said, ducking his head to try to catch his eye. “You’re the most specific person I’ve ever met. It’s fascinating. I love the way your brain works. And the way this house feels like you.” ---------------- A fluffy/smutty one shot set some time between Tampa and Boston in 2017 where Shane invites Ilya to spend the weekend with him in Montreal.

  9. [Cliff chews on the inside of his cheek, staring down at his dark phone. The reddit people said ‘just wait’ and ‘be supportive’, like waiting and being supportive weren’t two total opposites. And ‘waiting’ feels too close to ‘pretending’, too much like doing nothing, and Tess always said doing nothing was a choice and not an excuse and—well, she said a lot of things. But either way, it feels like giving himself an out, so Cliff takes a deep breath and makes himself use the only play he thinks he has left:

    Cliff (12:02): dude come on

    Cliff (12:02): please]

    OR,

In the aftermath of realizing who Roz's Montreal Chick actually is, Cliff knows that Roz doesn't know that Cliff knows about Hollander. But Cliff's not going to let something like knowing stop him from having a bros back with the whole...secret closeted gay love thing.

He's got reddit, he's got twitter. He can figure this out. And he's got one other person he knows is in the know—Hayden Pike.

  10. Ilya's eyes snapped. Something hot behind them. "You think you are better than me?"

Shane shook his head. It was like comparing apples and oranges, he wasn't sure how to even measure who was better. "No, and you know that's not what I meant. It's true, I'm more likely to get called up before you, and-"

Ilya propped himself up, nose now inches from Shane's. Shane couldn't help looking at his lips, flushed from running. To his horror, Ilya seemed to notice, and he started grinning.

"I think I will catch you." Ilya said, casually. "I cannot let you play without me. Would be no fun."

  11. “Jesus fuck,” Marley says, before he gets a look at Ilya's smug face and rolls his eyes. “At least tell me you didn't bite her back." He shakes his head, grinning. “She is most fussy,” he says. “No marks, Rozanov; no shoes in the house, asshole; stop picking me up and throwing me on my bed, I just made it, dickhead,” he mocks, before he gestures at his shoulder. “And then she rides me for three hours and bites me like a vampire. These things I must suffer through.” OR: Boston's got the Montreal Jane pattern basically locked down. The bite mark on Ilya's shoulder is new, though.

  13. Ilya was only a few strides behind Shane on the ice. He clocked the angle before the hit even landed; Marlow coming in too hot, too fast, shoulder high. Shane turned and slowed at the wrong moment, skates clipping, balance gone. Impact. The sound carried oddly through the arena, duller than boards, sharper than ice. Shane went down hard, helmet skidding, body twisting. And then it all happened at once. Skates tangled. Marlow stumbled over him as he fell, too. A skate’s blade flashed too close, too sharp. -------------------------------- Shane's injuries during the Boston/Montreal game are much more life-threatening than in canon. Ilya's quick thinking and bone-deep instincts are the only reason he survives.

  15. "How did you know?"

“How did I know what?” Ilya asked.

“That Shane was gay." Hayden stared at a spot on the table.

  17. Yuna stared at the phone in her hand while David went out in search of coffee. She got the number from Shane’s phone after learning the name from Hayden (This girl he’s been texting with for a long time, years, uhm she might be his sort-of-girlfriend?). She was simply listed in Shane’s contacts under “Lily”, no last name. She didn’t check their chat history because she valued her relationship with Shane, but it was a close call.

He is the best player in the league.” David’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Do not tell him I tell you this,” Ilya added quickly. “He still thinks I think he is second best.” Ilya shrugged, a small smile gracing his face. “It can be our secret.” David nodded. 19. Shane's stomach was in knots. He watched someone spin the bottle again to determine J.J.'s partner, and Shane's brain was screaming at the universe to land on literally anyone else, one of the girls, another guy, anyone but—

    Slowed.

    Stopped.

    Oh no.

It's the 2008 World Juniors semifinal, and Canada's Shane Hollander has just secured a spot in the finals beside his best friend J.J. Boiziau. Unfortunately for him, the team wants to celebrate, and celebrations apparently involve having Shane pressed up against his best friend (who he is definitely not attracted to!)

  20. Shane didn't know what he should say, what he could say. They hadn't talked since that night, hadn't been in contact much. Which at first hadn't worried Shane. It wasn't unusual for them to go longer periods of time without contact, and especially with the Olympics looming so close, with them both being chosen for their teams, it had only seemed logical to focus on their duties. He hadn't worried. Had lived in that blissful state of finally knowing what it felt like to be taken, of sharing the arguably most intimate part of himself with someone he trusted. Knew he could trust. Thought he could trust. OR: What happened during those 6 months when Ilya ignored Shane? How did that time change things for Shane?
