“Oh my god, oh my god. Seriously, this is the best. I can’t believe you’re my neighbour. I’m calling it now, Hollander. This right here is the beginning of a friendship that will go down in history.” Ilya is 10 years old when his family moves from Jacksonville, Florida to small town Ontario. There, he forms an unexpected friendship with Shane, the boy living on the ginseng farm across the street. As they grow up and grow apart, their paths continue to cross at high school hockey games, in tabloid articles, and at one particular intimate Muskoka cottage. OR: A childhood friends to strangers to lovers AU in which Shane Hollander (up and coming indie rock star) and Ilya Rozanov (brooding artist) take nearly fifteen years to figure their shit out.

Shane's stomach was in knots. He watched someone spin the bottle again to determine J.J.'s partner, and Shane's brain was screaming at the universe to land on literally anyone else, one of the girls, another guy, anyone but—

    The bottle slowed.

    Slowed.

    Stopped.

    Pointing directly at Shane.

    Oh no.

It's the 2008 World Juniors semifinal, and Canada's Shane Hollander has just secured a spot in the finals beside his best friend J.J. Boiziau. Unfortunately for him, the team wants to celebrate, and celebrations apparently involve having Shane pressed up against his best friend (who he is definitely not attracted to!)

Shane Hollander meets Ilya Rozanov when he is four years old and he cannot be any more unimpressed by this turn of events.

Thirteen years later, like the most cliché heartbreak in the making, they are best friends and Shane is thoroughly, utterly in love with him.

Ilya Rozanov's life has been a study in leaving things behind and one way or another he learned to deal with it.

One exception is Shane Hollander who came along thirteen years ago, settled in all too cozy, and ensured himself as the one thing Ilya can't ever leave.

Inspired by a discussion in the Heated Rivalry Jumbotron HS AU Hollanov where a tradition says that if you win enough tickets to get the big bear prize and give it to your crush you'll start dating. Shane is trying to win it for Rose because his friends can't believe they aren't dating yet. Ilya is also gunning for the bear, but who he's wanting to give it to may be a surprise.
