  1. The day after the CCM shoot, and for the 2nd time in 24 hours, Yuna bumps into Ilya in the elevators and decides then and there that he and her son should be friends.

5 years later, Ilya gets traded to the New York Admirals a year after winning the cup. Luckily, the Hollanders are there to help him out, no matter how undefined his relationship with Shane is.

HE ADOPTED HER AS A ROOKIE???

    @historybuff617
The adoption story is actually pretty well known around Boston.

After he was drafted, Shane flew to Japan to visit his grandparents in Kyoto before reporting to the organization.

On the trip back, he stopped in Paris and met a young woman who was trying to escape an abusive husband.

He helped her get safely to Canada, connected her with organizations that support women fleeing domestic violence, and stayed in contact while she got back on her feet.

When she gave birth by the end of his first year as a professional baseball player, she made the incredibly difficult decision to place the baby for adoption.

    Shane adopted her.

Her name is Sofia Yuna Hollander.

  3. Shane woke up alone, in pain and confused. He remembered the hit; Marlow had sent him down to the ice. He remembered Ilya visiting before anyone else. He doesn't understand what is wrong; why are more tests being ordered? The C test. The test for being a rare Male Carrier.

He hadn't thought about Carriers since he was in school. Why would he? His mother had done the test when he was a child. It had been negative. So why was he hurting in places he shouldn't? Why was a nice nurse telling him they needed to take him somewhere else for some specialised testing?

When Shane Hollander took a nasty hit on the ice against Boston, he was woken up to a very serious, very shocking discovery. To something he hadn't believed was possible. He now has to deal with the fallout; decisions have to be made, as well as life-altering choices. But first he has to work out how to tell his years-long situationship - who he is completely and totally in love with - that he managed to get him pregnant, when neither of them was aware it was possible. Shane is terrified, confused and furious all at the same time. All he wants is Ilya, but is Ilya still going to want him now?

  4. All told he got into a couple scraps a year, but nothing to write home about – he didn’t instigate, he didn’t go too far. He kept his head level and focused on what it needed to be focused on: winning the game. Sure, one time he almost punched Scott Hunter’s lights out after a game, but whatever – he was emotionally compromised then, sue him. Mostly everyone assumed that was a weird blip and let it go, and he and Scott maintained enough professional friendliness at league events that everyone figured it wasn’t personal, which it wasn’t.

All of that to say that the more and more the media went on about Hockey’s Golden Boy, the more people forgot that Shane was, at the end of the day, just like any other professional hockey player. He knew how to throw a fucking punch. He just chose not to, most times, for strategic reasons.

It became apparent that people had forgotten this very key fact almost immediately after he joined the Centaurs.

  5. "Never have I ever checked out my teammates in the locker room." Comeau said, looking directly at him. Shane left his beer exactly where it was and met Comeau's gaze without saying a word, waiting for someone else to break the silence, because surely that had to have been a joke. "Come on, Cap. It's no fun if you're just gonna lie." Drapeau let out with a quiet snort. Shane frowned, genuinely confused. "What?" "You really expect us to believe you've never taken a peek at us in the showers?" ⎯⎯⎯ Or: A game of Never Have I Ever with the Voyageurs turns ugly, it's a good thing Ilya is not too far way.

  6. "You signed with the LA Kings?" she demanded. "What were you thinking? You know the plan. We'd go to the draft, get first pick, and go to Montreal."

"What are you even talking about?" Shane shot back. "If I got first pick, I'd go to Boston, not Montreal. And I don't even want to go to Montreal."

"Why?" Mom asked immediately. "They're one of the best teams in the league. One of the Original Six."

Something inside him snapped, and before he even realized it, he switched to Japanese.

"I don't know," he said, his voice tight. "Maybe because they're full of racists and homophobes. Do you even understand what I'm saying? Or have you become so white you forgot your own language?"

  7. So, I'm trying something a little different with this new installment in the series, and I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

As much as I adore M/M, I've always wanted to throw my hat into the very small pool of Female!Shane/Male!Ilya stories. I've also been itching to write the actor!Shane trope for quite some time, so I finally decided to combine the two.

Another reason I wanted to write this fic is that, while I absolutely love exploring Shane's Japanese heritage, I realized I've been neglecting Ilya's Russian heritage throughout this series. I wanted to give that side of him more attention here and explore it in a way I haven't before.

I really hope you'll give it a chance, and if you do, I'd love to hear what you think. I hope you enjoy it! ❤️

  9. The week before the 2017 All-Star Game, Ilya Rozanov is placed on IR. Ten days later, he disappears from the league entirely. Boston says nothing, and for once, a notoriously fickle league closes ranks.

Every attempt Shane makes to find him hits a wall. In one last desperate, life-altering bid to reach him, Shane comes out to the world, only to be met with Ilya’s silence.

By the time the 2020/21 season begins, Shane has nothing left but hockey and regret. He builds a dynasty, guts his life, and pins the last scraps of his hope on the Metros’ newest transfer, the dangerously hot-headed Cliff Marlow.

Stepping back into the public eye after the worst three years of his life, all Ilya wants is to find some kind of purpose. Shane is done with him, he made that much clear. Ilya isn't about to try to convince himself otherwise. He just wants to prove he still has some use left in him.

Fortunately for both of them, they're still fucking stupid for each other.

While jerking off and thinking of each other, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov switch bodies. With a week before they meet for their first game of their second professional season, they've got no choice but to live each others' lives until then. But will seeing each other in person reverse whatever switched them?

Ilya plans to enjoy the admiration, while Shane is about to learn what it's like to be respected, but not loved. They both also find they're enjoying their predicament more than they should - and they've switched more than just appearances. Tastes and language skills remain, as do echoes of other memories.

Shane's about to learn there's more to the dickish Russian than an attitude and talent, and Ilya's about to learn that being the golden boy isn't all it's cracked up to be.

  11. Lily: Sorry, I didn’t get to say goodbye

Shane had found the message sweet despite his disappointment. Now it just feels… ominous.

That’s usually the point when Shane has to get out of bed and pace around his bedroom and remind himself that, if Ilya is ghosting him (he is not, he’s not, he’s not), then he is also ghosting the rest of the fucking world. Because that is the thing that truly, really, terrifies him.

No one has heard of Ilya Rozanov in nearly three weeks.

Shane hasn’t been getting much sleep lately.

    Or:

After Tampa. Things between Shane and Ilya are finally starting to look stable… until Ilya drops off the face of the Earth with little warning. Shane spirals (a lot) and decides he’s going to find his man if it’s the last thing he does.

  12. “—okay, that’s unusual,” the first commentator’s voice is saying over the footage. “Hm. Ladies and gentlemen, it seems that, thanks to some last-minute additions to the broadcast, we’ll be able to get an audio feed straight from the arena today!”

Ilya frowns. Who the fuck was stupid enough to get mic’d for this fucking game? Some idiot rookie from Toronto, probably. They really don’t teach kids how to handle anything these days.

“That’s right!” The second announcer pipes up with an annoyingly fake cheery voice. Ilya immediately wants to send a puck straight into his windpipe. “We just got confirmation that Captain Shane Hollander himself will be wearing a microphone during tonight’s game.”

Ilya sits up and spins to face the TV screen fast enough to give a lesser man whiplash.

Shane doesn’t get injured when Ilya comes back from Russia in 2017, so Ilya follows through on his plan to end things between them. A year later, despite being miserable, he still believes he did the right thing for both of them.
Except the Voyageurs have been acting weird around Hollander lately. And wait, what do you mean he’s mic’d for this game?

  13. Compromising pictures surface after Ilya Rozanov’s phone is hacked. Determined not to let his Russian situationship face the fall-out of getting outed, Shane Hollander comes out, starts Twitter fights, and commits to acting unhinged on main, enlisting the help of a few trusted allies.
His objective? To become the bigger news story so as to draw attention away from Rozanov, in an insane bid to distract Russia from coming for his... whatever they are to each other.
Whoever said you can’t singlehandedly change an entire narrative has clearly never met Shane Hollander.

  14. The cottage is their safe place. Only Shane’s parents have ever visited; only they know the address. If Ilya is secretly smoking and on his work phone at the cottage, Shane wonders how worried he should be. When he asks, Ilya's voice is soft despite his frown

“Vicky said it was urgent," Ilya says. "Something in Russia.”

Normally, Shane wouldn’t ask anything beyond that. But again, they’re at the cottage and Ilya is on his work phone. Shane asks.

“There is a man we thought dead,” Ilya says. “Turns out that he is maybe not so dead.”

  15. Shane Hollander expected a lot out of the combine before the 2009 NHL draft: meeting the competition, impressing possible future teams and ultimately securing his spot in the NHL.

  16. Shane was twelve when hockey scouts started showing up to his games. He was barely fifteen when a check went horribly wrong, fucked his knee to hell and gave him a grade III concussion. During rehab he found swimming, and he was seventeen when he went to the Olympics as a relay-only swimmer who only swam the prelims.

He’s 24 and working for his mom’s sports PR company when he meets Ilya Fucking Rozanov.

  17. Refusing to let Ilya ruin his career by signing with Ottawa, Shane chooses to really give their relationship a try and moves to Boston to live with Ilya and become a Raider. What follows is enough public scrutiny and backlash from his team that it has him questioning if he made the right decision. Until moments with Ilya and the Raiders show him exactly why he chose correctly. --- Hayden’s eyes flickered to Shane as he sat on the bench, chewing on the edge of his mouth guard. “Don’t fucking look at him,” Ilya insisted as he bent down for the faceoff. “Excuse me?” Hayden mumbled, eyes darting back to him. “You heard me,” he retorted, his tone clipped. “He’s not your teammate anymore; he’s mine. If you think Marlow is a problem to your game, wait until you see what I will do to your team if you hurt anyone on mine again.” Hayden scoffed, dipping his head as he tried to focus on the game. Something about Ilya’s words still rang through his head though, sounding so definitive that he didn’t want to risk seeing what he was actually referring to when he said that. The puck dropped again, and Ilya stole it before he could comprehend how quickly it happened.

  18. “We could’ve had everything,” Shane admitted softly.

The confession hurt more than he expected.

“A real relationship. A family. A future.” His eyes drifted toward the planes outside again before he exhaled slowly. “But dreams eventually end.” A small, tired smile pulled at his mouth. “And this is me waking up.”

  19. There was something wrong with Shane Hollander.

He had known it since he was young.

Most people-most kids, in general-had different hobbies and interests. Their attention drifted from one thing to another. They became fascinated with something for a few weeks, only to abandon it for the next shiny obsession that caught their eye.

Shane had never been like that.

When it came to him, there was only ever one thing: hockey.

    Obsessive.

That was the word most people used when referring to his temperament.

  20. All Shane wanted to do was to play hockey.
He knew he was pretty much the best at it.

What he didn't know, being the best was not enough.

Being a gay Asian-Canadian hockey player didn't help anything at all.

Nor did the fact that he got drafted to Ottawa, the team where Ilya Rozanov was already the biggest star.

    Or,
An alternate universe where Shane is openly out as gay. Ilya is still closeted bisexual. And they both play for the same team- ie, Ottawa Centaurs.
