"Nothing is running. It is a fucking blizzard," Ilya tried to sound calm, but he was still kind of freaking out. "What time is your flight back?" Hollander asked, still facing the window. It was hard to read his tone without seeing his face, although far be it for Ilya to complain about the view. "Probably not until afternoon, if planes take off at all tomorrow," Ilya admitted. "What hotel are you staying at?" "The Hyatt over by the rink," "Yeah, you'll never make it back there tonight," Hollander muttered. They didn't stay. It just wasn't something they ever did. As soon as they were done, one of them was out the door and back to wherever they were supposed to be in the first place. But surely Hollander wasn't about to send him out into a literal blizzard with no way to get back to his hotel. Ilya put his phone on the nightstand and stood up, tentatively approaching where Hollander remained frozen staring out into the snowy abyss that had once been the city of Montreal. "Is it okay that I stay here?" "Well yeah, you're gonna have to, man, there's no way you're getting back tonight," Hollander replied like Ilya was being slow.

Since rookie season, Shane had spent December 23rd flying home to Ottawa to be with his parents. He had been looking forward to the one weekend of the year when he could indulge on all the Christmas cookies he wanted. However, the East Coast weather, ever fickle, seemed to have other plans. Somewhere in the background, an announcement declared that everyone should check their emails to rebook flights. But in the forefront of Shane’s mind was a penthouse in Brookline, a boisterous Russian who had just beat him in a last-second goal attempt, and the present in his bag that Shane hadn’t had a chance to give him.

“I cannot believe that you invited him” He can believe it, actually. His mother invites him every year, this is just the first year he’s actually showed up. A fact which was news to Shane until he’d walked into the cottage, weekend bag slung over his shoulder, to the sight of Ilya Rozanov reaching up on his tippy toes, t-shirt riding up to expose the small of his back, helping his mom hang garland over a doorway Shane had, literally, nearly turned around and walked right back out Its Christmas and its snowing and Shane's mom's annoying (ly hot) best friend is stuck at the cottage
