The language is polite but friendly, and the person writing it actually identifies herself as the lady from the team’s media relationship, Nathaly, which immediately makes the exchange feel more real. She calls Hayden by his first name too, which also helps. Hayden has read some official communication before, but they addressed the team as a whole, so he knows this is different. Nathaly is talking to him to know if there’s any way he might billet for next season.

Even though Scott Hunter is a prick, he is a prick that does not deserve this kind of negative attention.” He shrugs, almost casual, and looks Shane up and down. “Plus, am into boys as well as girls. Is honestly not a problem for me.”

    or: Shane digs himself quite a big hole, and now everyone believes he is dating none other than Ilya Rozanov. This would be no problem if he and Ilya 1) were indeed dating and 2) could actually stand each other.

    Scott stilled.

    It was as if someone had whispered it in his ear. It was as if the final piece of this insane, deranged puzzle finally clicked into place. His heart was pounding in his ears. He was probably wrong. In fact he was entirely wrong. This wasn’t like him and Kip. It couldn’t be Kip. Scott had been watching too many romantic comedies. His head was in the clouds.

    But they weren’t touching.

    Hollander and Rozanov were as close as they could be, without laying a single finger on one another. They were specifically, rigidly, separate. The warmth between them was bridled. Entirely. And this, Scott realized, his heart sinking into the floor, was also how he had felt with Kip.

For when Scott asks Kip to move in with him he forgot the simple fact that his door has always more closely resembled a revolving one as people come and go bringing their problems with them and the Good Captain Scott Hunter fixes them as best as he can. Allowing for Kip to have the opportunity to be brought closer to Scott's hockey world and allows him to better understand what Scott is really risking in regards to coming out while still playing hockey. Also, helps to break down that Scott only sees his value in his usefulness and Kip is determined to make him understand that his value is inherent just by existing and is NOT a reward he gets from helping others.

    Vaughny also pops up a lot. He's clueless but he's got heart... and tacos
