Shane tries not to be disappointed in the way the whole thing has worked out. Because the thing about Rozanov is that his existence is infuriating. And he is so much fun to play against. Shane had almost liked the thought of having a rival and, had the lottery gone a little differently, he and Rozanov would have been drafted to the same division and really delivered on that possibility. They could have really enjoyed it.
As it stands, one of them is going to the southernmost team in the league, and the other is going all the way up North.
Or-
The draft lottery goes a little differently and suddenly there is no rivalry, no joint CCM campaign, and nothing between Shane and Ilya but a charged encounter in a hotel gym and 4,000 kilometres of distance.
A lot of things are different, and some others are too fated to be ruined by something as immaterial as luck.

It's the middle of playoffs and the Centaurs team doctor Terry is doing physicals to make sure no has sustained any injuries that would affect their play. He does Shane's and he sees Shane is slightly underweight then what is normal for him during playoffs. When he brings it up with Shane he brings up the fact that Shane is diagnosed with an eating disorder and tells him that he will have a chat with Shane's therapist and nutritionist on what to do. Shane does not take this very well.

A—” “A baby,” Ilya finishes. “You are a grandmother now. Surprise.” “Sorry, did you—” Yuna pauses. They can hear David faintly in the background. “You mean, like, a baby animal? A puppy?” “A wishbaby,” Shane croaks. There’s silence on the other end of the line. “Surprise,” Ilya says again. Shane and Ilya win the Stanley Cup. They weren't exactly planning to also win a baby.
