  1. Ilya Rozanov is in love, closeted, catastrophically lonely, and apparently incapable of referring to Shane Hollander in present tense. The Centaurs come to a- given the circumstances- reasonable conclusion. Or: Five times the Centaurs thought Ilya Rozanov was mourning his dead wife, and the one time they discovered his wife was actually Shane Hollander. Shane, for the record, is alive and really confused.

  2. “Oh my god, oh my god. Seriously, this is the best. I can’t believe you’re my neighbour. I’m calling it now, Hollander. This right here is the beginning of a friendship that will go down in history.” Ilya is 10 years old when his family moves from Jacksonville, Florida to small town Ontario. There, he forms an unexpected friendship with Shane, the boy living on the ginseng farm across the street. As they grow up and grow apart, their paths continue to cross at high school hockey games, in tabloid articles, and at one particular intimate Muskoka cottage. OR: A childhood friends to strangers to lovers AU in which Shane Hollander (up and coming indie rock star) and Ilya Rozanov (brooding artist) take nearly fifteen years to figure their shit out.

  4. Ilya has been thinking about his mother again. Not that he ever really stops but lately...Yes, lately he is thinking about Irina Rozanova but also about Irina Sokolova. About Irina before Alexei or Ilya. Before Grigori Rozanov. Irina Sokolova - the champion figure skater. The world championship title she won. The routine she developed and agonised over and perfected but never took to the Olympics.

And he has been doing something stupid. Something he absolutely should not be doing. But he is one year away from reaching an age his mother never got to see and he needs...something. He’s pretty sure it’s this particular something.

But Dr. Galina has been implying that perhaps it is only stupid in the way that falling in love with your arch-rival is stupid. So maybe he should just give up already and get on with it.

  5. In another life — or maybe the next one, or maybe the one before — Ilya Rozanov learns that some roads only lead to one place. No matter how you take them, the wolves are always waiting at the end.

Maybe that's why, in December 2008, Ilya wakes up with the distinct, inexplicable sense, that he has already lived this life before.

Some things, it turns out, are inevitable. The question is whether he is.

  6. “Shane had been used to being alone. He'd never thought of himself as lonely. He honestly often craved the solitude, found it grounding. But that was before he knew what it was like to have someone to call, someone to touch. He was never lonely before Rozanov, but he'd been lonely ever since.”

April 2017: Shane does not get laid out on the ice.

Ilya goes through with ending it.

    Shane lets him.

What follows is eleven months of distance, denial, and a quiet kind of devastation neither of them knows how to name, let alone fix.

They learn how to live without each other.

(Or at least, how to pretend.)

And then, almost a year later, the infamous collision happens and Shane goes down cold.

And suddenly, neither of them can pretend it doesn’t matter.

  7. Ilya sat up a little straighter and scoffed, “Yes yes. Mr. FBI man thought I was big Russian assassin. I tried to tell him business man life was not that exciting. Not everyone that goes to military school is hit man like in movies.” He rolled his eyes as Scott continued.

    or

There's a hit man on the loose. Shane is a government agent, Hayden and Scott work at the FBI. Will they be able to find who ever is responsible for multiple murders?

Title - I love you through everything. I'm not actually the biggest Drake fan, but this line in Jungle seemed appropriate for this.

  8. That thought settles into his brain dangerously. Ilya’s been with everyone. Girls. Guys. Others. What's another person on the list? If Shane wants experience… If he wants to stop feeling behind… Why not Ilya? Yes, he was a complete asshole that Shane wished he could choke to death sometimes and his brother's childhood bestfriend, but it wouldn’t mean anything. It's for the experience, the education of it all. For hockey. Obviously. Or: Ilya Rozanov has always been Shane Hollander’s older brother’s best friend. He was never supposed to become Shane’s first everything.

  9. After the tuna melt meltdown, Shane meets Rose Landry, has several deeply inconvenient revelations, and decides to do the only sensible thing: win Ilya back with sincerity, logistics, and a frankly alarming amount of emotional effort.

Ilya, meanwhile, mistakes every tender gesture for the kind prelude to an inevitable goodbye.

Or: Shane is living in a romcom. Ilya is living in a Russian tragedy.

  10. Galina stopped writing to look at Ilya. "Do you think he'd be willing to talk to you next time it happens, even if it's late?"

Ilya's stomach turned over. He didn't even want to consider it, but he knew the answer. "Yes. But he silences his phone at night."

"Most phones these days have an option to let certain numbers ring through, even on Do Not Disturb. Do you think he'd be open to setting that up for you?"

Imagining that conversation made Ilya nauseous. Yes, no fucking doubt, Shane would be open to it if Ilya explained the reason. "I'm not going to ask him to do that."

Set during The Long Game, an alternate version where the plane scene doesn't happen. Instead, there's this: a car crash, a therapist's duty to report, and an urgent reckoning with priorities.

  13. At last, Ilya arrives at Shane’s cottage.

  15. “I’m Shane. Hollander. Vampire hunter,” The introduction would be madness anywhere else. But Shane had ducked out to catch his breath, exhausted from the constant stream of networking and chatter with other vampire hunters. He was a newly minted hunter and beamed with pride to tell anyone about it. He was certain this stranger wouldn’t be scandalised but when he held out his hand, they just stared at it.

“Ilya Rozanov,” he introduced himself, then flashed Shane a wicked smile, “vampire.”

Shane hunts feral vampires. Ilya is a vampire, but Shane's not interested in hunting him - no, he wants something far more dangerous. When the lines of their rivalry start to blur, they find themselves entangled in an age old conflict that will have far-reaching consequences.

Bridgeford is a small, quiet town. Too dull to hold someone like Ilya, a restless young alpha always chasing something sharper, faster, louder. Too suffocating for Shane, an omega who’s spent too long under watchful eyes, tired of being seen as a social case just because he's an omega.

One last summer. That's all they both have to live through before they're both off to the big city. That was the plan.

Until fate pulls a few strings, and suddenly, two complete strangers feel drawn to each other in all the wrong ways.

  17. Ilya hadn’t known the video existed. If he had known, he would have paid someone to have it destroyed. Would have paid someone to murder Kuznetsov, maybe, just for redundancy's sake. But it was peak stupidity, to keep evidence of your homosexual perversion around in a country where that crime could get you sent to jail for several decades, and Ilya hadn’t thought that Kuznetsov would be that dumb.

Now here Ilya was, watching a video of his fourteen-year-old self on Twitter getting fucked by his former hockey coach.

So. There go the plans for the rest of his life.

  19. Ilya starts calling Shane boring regularly after that, not cruelly but persistently, the way you press a bruise you know is there just to confirm it still hurts. Shane's cereal is boring, Shane's training schedule is boring, Shane's shoes lined up by the door are boring, and Shane responds with variations of "fuck off" and "you're an asshole" that become increasingly creative and occasionally surprising. They do not talk about anything that matters. They talk about groceries and whose turn it is to take out the trash and whether Ilya's music is too loud at midnight, which it is. On the ice, Shane is someone else entirely. Ilya watches him from the upper stands every morning with vending machine coffee going cold in his hand and doesn't tell anyone. Or: Shane asked Ilya once how you know when it's the right person. Ilya described Shane to him, and Shane didn't recognise himself.
