    Shane Hollander knows three things:
Ilya is off-limits, the kiss should’ve never happened, and ignoring it didn’t make it go away.

Now he’s freshly graduated with one last summer before leaving for NYU - one last summer to keep his head down, avoid old feelings, and pretend he’s totally fine. But after months of radio silence, Ilya is back. And Shane is running out of excuses for why his heart still stutters every time he hears “Hollander.”

One last summer. One unresolved kiss. One disaster waiting to happen.

OR Ilya is Shane’s older brother’s best friend, the boy he’s always drifted toward without meaning to, and now they’re stuck navigating their complicated almost-something relationship under the same roof.

    “Shane has boyfriend?"

“Mom thinks so. He’s dodging my texts, but it definitely seems like he’s seeing someone.”

Ilya's whispered "No" was drowned out by a loud snort from another teammate, who said something like, "Good for lil' bro."

Ilya shouldn’t feel like dying. Should have expected this to happen at some point. Deserved it, even. He had been ghosting Shane for months, after all.

In which Ilya knows he's not good enough to be with his best friend's little brother. He spirals over Shane possibly dating someone else nonetheless.

Alternatively, Ilya will always be the one Shane will still run to.

That thought settles into his brain dangerously. Ilya’s been with everyone. Girls. Guys. Others. What's another person on the list? If Shane wants experience… If he wants to stop feeling behind… Why not Ilya? Yes, he was a complete asshole that Shane wished he could choke to death sometimes and his brother's childhood bestfriend, but it wouldn’t mean anything. It's for the experience, the education of it all. For hockey. Obviously. Or: Ilya Rozanov has always been Shane Hollander’s older brother’s best friend. He was never supposed to become Shane’s first everything.
