No one wanted the night to end, so the celebration party had moved from the locker room (where Shane had a few sips of warm beer out of the Cup and three-fourths of a bottle of champagne) to Monk's (where Shane had cold beer and too many jello shots that were in syringes of all things — that was 100 percent Dykstra's fault) to Bood's house (where he ate a few slices of pizza to sober up a little and washed it down with a Ginger Ale that Ilya had somehow acquired from seemingly out of thin air before Ilya and Troy challenged him and Luca to a game of beer pong, which Shane and Luca had lost spectacularly because Luca had no idea how beer bong worked). After the game, Ilya had brushed his fingers along Shane's spine as he ribbed Luca on his poor skills, and Shane's skin burned.

“It does not mean anything,” Rozanov agreed. His hands were stretched out on the black granite of Shane’s counter. They were so large, so pale. Rozanov’s fingernails were square, trimmed short. Shane had felt them on all parts of himself, had had bruises made by those hands.

Oh, she’d be so surprised if he found a picture of Ilya Rozanov and showed it to her. The thought in itself is enough to make Shane horribly nervous.
Shane got the number from a man he finds attractive. Now that the ball is in his court, he needs to gather the courage to do something about it. Maybe. Hopefully.

“What are you wearing?” Ilya asks, his voice sounding strangled. Shane looks down, confused. “What’s wrong with what I’m wearing? I always–” “Why are you wearing your glasses?” Ilya interrupts, and Shane notices the tension in his entire body when he speaks. “I ran out of contacts,” Shane says. “So you are wearing glasses to practice?” “Yeah, it’s just one practice,” he says defensively, even though he’s done nothing wrong. “I’ll grab a pair of contacts from the eye doctor this afternoon." “Right,” Ilya says, his eyes laser-focused on Shane’s face as his lips set in a tight line. “Is that a problem?” Shane quips, and it comes off kind of bitchy, but he’s so confused as to why Ilya would have any issue with him wearing his glasses to one practice. He normally loves Shane in glasses. Ilya seems to shake himself out of whatever weird-ass mood he’d fall into. He smiles, but it looks strained. “Of course not. Let’s go.” ___ Or, Shane has to wear his glasses to practice and Ilya absolutely cannot deal with it.

A few seconds later, a news anchor’s voice grows to startling clarity. A clip plays of Rozanov shooting from the goal crease and making it into the net.
“...Montreal Metros to acquire center Ilya Rozanov from the Boston Raiders for the upcoming season. The two teams have sustained a bitter rivalry for years, and it has only worsened worsened with Hollander and Rozanov’s participation. All of this makes the trade an unlikely one; however, it seems to be just the right time for the Metros to snag a star like Rozanov. After many lackluster performances from the Metros these past few months, it only makes sense…”
The anchor continues as a clip of Rozanov from a post-game interview last year plays—he’s shirtless and sweaty, smirking into the camera. And then he does that…that wink. Shane just stares up at the screen, dumbfounded. He’s not listening to the details anymore, but the words echo in his head.
Metros to acquire Ilya Rozanov…
His team to acquire Rozanov.
