  1. Shane Hollander and Liliya Rozanova have had a good thing going: they’re in love, she gets on with his parents, and they both understand each other’s priorities on the ice. It’s almost perfect, except for the stuff that they’ve never quite been able to talk about. But now Liliya’s reaching the end of her career as a figure skater, and the issue of her work visa is looming over them. And with everything falling apart around her, she’s determined to be open with Shane at last. Except, for Shane, this means confronting the parts of himself that he’s never reckoned with before, and he has to decided what is more important to him: this love that he has found or his love of hockey.

or - Roz starts thinking about the parts of himself he’s never acknowledged before, and Shane starts to think about changing his long game.

  2. Svetlana knew Liliya Rozanova like the other half of her soul, the back of her hand, the blood in her veins. She would know Ilya Rozanov just as well. When her best friend calls her to share the secret that he has kept tight to his chest their whole friendship, and the grief and the fear that he feels around it, Sveta knows that there is nothing that will stop her from trying to make at least some of it easier to carry.

or - Svetlana Vetrova, Ilya Rozanov, the constancy of change, and the spectre of Irina Rozanova

  3. Shane Hollander’s life revolves around hockey to an almost concerning degree. The assumption by pretty much everyone who knows him is that Shane therefore has no time for love. Then they meet Liliya Rozanova, Russia’s darling figure skater and Hollander’s apparently long-time girlfriend. There’s something about this situation that isn’t quite right.

or - five times Shane introduces people his girlfriend, Liliya Rozanova, and the one time that everybody is introduced to Ilya Rozanov, his long-term boyfriend.

  4. Shane and Ilya once knew each other in what feels like another life. Years later, Shane has transitioned, buried his past and finally embraced his truest self. He comes to McGill to play on the men’s hockey team—only to find his roommate is Ilya Rozanov.

    “Sorry—um.” Shane swallowed. “I’m Shane.”

Something passed across Ilya’s face, quick and unreadable. Shane’s pulse spiked, thudding loud in his ears. Did he know? If Ilya recognized him—if something clicked—what would stop him from telling the coaches? What would stop him from telling everyone?
Then Ilya smoothed it away, the moment gone as if it had never existed.

“Huh,” he said. “Funny. I used to know a Shane. Pretty girl. Good at hockey.”

Shane’s eyes widened. His mouth went dry. Was Ilya fucking with him?

    “Oh—um. I—”

“Relax,” Ilya cut in, lips curling into something almost amused, almost sharp. “You are very pretty, too.”

  5. He felt Rozanov’s eyes drag over him lazily, uncaring that Shane was watching him. He’d never been looked at like this, with such…hunger. It made his stomach flip but he did not close his shorts-clad legs even when he felt Rozanov’s eyes drift lower then lower still. His eyes didn’t waver, didn’t flinch at the lack of a bulge that they both knew should have been there. —- Shane Hollander is the first transgender gay hockey player in the league and absolutely no one can know but Ilya Rozanov seems like a good secret keeper.
