  1. “Sin Bin? Really?”
Ilya grinned at the expression on Shane’s face. “You like?”
“This is about fucking someone in the penalty box,” Shane told him.
“Not someone, Shane. It’s about fucking you in the penalty box. Until you stop making your angry kitten face.”
At least the song didn’t use the phrase ‘angry kitten’. Shane was grateful for that at least. “You use real hockey terms!”
“Sin bin is slang, could mean anything,” Ilya said, still grinning.
Shane looked down at the sheet of lyrics in his hand. “Sin bin, soft hands, checking, five minute major, rink, skating… this is a hockey themed porn song!”
    .....

Shane Hollander is living two lives. In one life, he's leading a team that no longer likes or trusts him after his coming out. In the other life, he's experiencing love for the first time (in a secret relationship) with rock and roll star Ilya Rozanov.

Those worlds are harder to separate when Ilya's song about Shane becomes an NHL meme.

  2. Then it’s Friday night and Kip is on his way to his first ever client. He told his dad he has a new job pet-sitting to explain the weird hours and overnight absences that are about to occur, and felt more than a little guilty when George patted his shoulder and told Kip how proud he was of him for working so hard.

Well, he wouldn’t be proud of this, Kip thinks as he walks through the lobby of a fancy East Side apartment building. About to give the guy in the penthouse the boyfriend experience he booked. All 16 hours of it.

    -
Kip finds a more lucrative side gig than smoothie barista. And then he finds Scott.

"Maybe," Irina said, "I will ask. Maybe, Shane and Ilyushenka would like to go on ice together? Hockey maybe, or only skating?"

"Shane would certainly prefer to play hockey," Yuna said, as Shane stepped into the room, his eyes going suddenly bright when she glanced at him as the word hockey left her mouth. Sometimes she thought it was like having a little puppy hearing the word walk.

"Hockey?" Shane asked, still standing in the doorway, his whole body vibrating a little, "I can have hockey?"

The Hollanders go on a trip to Russia in 1996 to attend a wedding, and Shane makes a friend. In 2008, he meets his friend again. Part of him knows it's his friend, sadly, that part is not his brain.

“Jesus Christ,” Ollie whispers. “I’m going to pass out. Shane—look, she’s wearing a fur coat. A fur coat, Shane—”

Shane nods, every bit as shaky. The fox is, in fact, wearing a little capelet of real fur on top of her own already ridiculous red pelt: dark and glossy, sable probably, tied under her chest with a silk ribbon and fastened at the breastbone with a small gold clasp.

    Or

Nobody is prepared for the way Ilya and Vasilisa Rozanov intend to play professional hockey, least of all Shane and Oliver Hollander.

“Just got the word from the officials, Metros are shutting Miitka down for the night," LeClaire says almost dispassionately. “Third period we’re up against,” LeClaire consults his clipboard, “Shane Hollander. Drafted 2009, current starter for the Laval Maples, posts a .905 save percentage.”

Ilya stays where he is, rolling the name around in his head once, without much interest.

    Hollander.

    Doesn’t ring a bell.

Inspired by that one twitter post, what if Shane was a goalie?

  7. In part one of this series, Language Barrier, Shane and Ilya met in Russia the summer before their rookie year, when Shane was tutoring English at a summer hockey camp. They fell hard and came into the draft with full intentions of continuing to hook up at every opportunity.

This story picks up where Language Barrier left off. Ilya's in America now, and the hockey world knows they're friends, not rivals. But there's still a gaping chasm between what they want, and what they're allowed. They're in their rookie years and trying to juggle this secret desperate lust of theirs while doing this incredibly difficult thing, miles apart, and Ilya is no longer in his familiar milieu, and that shit is HARD, y'all.

Luckily for the boys, the author is very much on their side.

  8. Scott knew fuck all about figure skating, but he knew this: Kip Grady flew across the ice. No one on the Admirals would beat him in a puck race. He turned sideways, clearly staging for a move, and then he jumped, revolving weightlessly through the air, before landing on a single silver blade. Scott was close enough to hear the scraping sound of it before the breathless gasp of the audience resolved into cheering. Beside Scott, Carter called out, “Woo, yeah!”

  10. “Hello Shane. This is Ilya again, calling about your solar panel quote. Call me back when you are able, the number is—”

Shane pokes the delete button so hard he worries about his phone screen. Every day, this fucking company calls him. Sometimes it’s Elaine or Cyrus, but Shane finds it the most irritating when it’s Ilya. Something about his attitude in his definitely-not-attractive-and-distracting Russian accent makes him sound smug, like he knows he’ll get the sale.

He will never get the sale.

Shane Hollander is never getting solar panels installed. Someone should probably tell Ilya, the solar panel salesman.

  11. “This is just crazy,” J.J. said. “Give me that, Pike, I’ve got one he absolutely can’t pass.”

“Oh, so you’re saying it’s my fault?” Hayden asked.

“Skill issue.” J.J. paused. “Ok. Pedro Pascal.” His voice was smug.

A long silence stretched while Shane Hollander looked at the camera, seemingly deciding whether it was worth it to lie.

    “No!” J.J. said, horrified.

    “Pass… I—What?”

“The entire internet wants to fuck this man!”

“Okay?!” Shane Hollander said, throwing his arms out. “I don’t know what to tell you!”

“Jesus Christ, okay.” Hayden shuffled behind the camera. “Ilya Rozanov.”

A flush bloomed across Shane Hollander’s freckled face, intensifying so fast it looked like his face was on fire.

“Uhm.” He pressed his lips together before his shoulders dropped in resignation. “Smash.”

  13. Shane Hollander does not leave outcomes to chance. When traditional dating fails to produce the stability he wants, he turns to a private matchmaker who promises something more deliberate: one match, one meeting, one decision.

Ilya Rozanov never planned to get married. But when his carefully controlled life starts to unravel, marriage becomes the simplest solution.

Neither of them is looking for love. What they agree to is a calculated partnership, built on alignment, not emotion.

    It should be straightforward.

    It is not.

    Help me
I am in love with a virgin

Ilya was exaggerating for comic effect, of course. He wasn’t in love with Shane Hollander. He was just absolutely infatuated with him and wanted to carry him around in his pocket and also fuck him senseless and then count his freckles while he slept beside him. So not love, just whatever that was, but still. It was a problem.

    Or,
A newly-drafted Ilya Rozanov finds himself transfixed by a beautiful man in the grocery store.

A newly-single Shane Hollander does something uncharacteristically brave.

Neither of them are prepared for just how out of their depth they're about to be.

“Do you know this name, ‘Shane Hollander’?”
The kid looked at Shane, chewing his lip and frowning a little, before turning back to Rozanov. “I think so, yes.”
    “Who is he?
    “Uh… a hockey player?”
“No,” Rozanov said in a harsh, cutting tone. “He is no one. Because he is on my ice. Understand?”

To help with his edge control, the Metros' coach recommends Shane take figure skating lessons with someone named Ilya Rozanov. Rozanov is rude, abrasive, and insists he will only teach Shane in a group class for kids. Shane, a rookie hell-bent on proving himself and unwilling to disappoint his coach, refuses to give up despite how much Rozanov tries to humiliate him each lesson.

  19. “Oh my god, oh my god. Seriously, this is the best. I can’t believe you’re my neighbour. I’m calling it now, Hollander. This right here is the beginning of a friendship that will go down in history.” Ilya is 10 years old when his family moves from Jacksonville, Florida to small town Ontario. There, he forms an unexpected friendship with Shane, the boy living on the ginseng farm across the street. As they grow up and grow apart, their paths continue to cross at high school hockey games, in tabloid articles, and at one particular intimate Muskoka cottage. 20. The advert he’d seen online the month before had seemed too good to be true; between his parents and his teammates asking when he’d settle down, Shane was tired. Tired of the constant match making, even as well intended as it was and tired of feeling like even this private aspect of his life was something performative; like there was nothing to his existence that was just for him.

He’d wanted an easy out, and Google had had the answers.

Utmost discretion. Blonde. Green eyes. Passable English.

After hours of research vetting the agency he’d selected, Shane had wired over the funds and crossed his fingers before immediately stress cleaning his already pristine house.
