The sun was shining through the cottage window, painting the room in a golden light. Shane, ever the early riser, has been already up for an hour or so, watching Ilya’s every feature transform in the changing light. The faint amount of freckles that dot Ilya’s face –not the same kind Shane has, but still visible for those who are close enough–, his long, naturally curly eyelashes, his slightly parted lips and twitching nose are all things Shane could never get enough of. or Shane and Ilya spend a lazy day together durring their stay at the cottage.

“You can go, y’know, if you want-“ “Ah, no. I do not want to,” Ilya interrupts. “Stay at home with my very sexy husband who is wearing his glasses, or go out to a club filled with people who are not you? The answer is very simple, Shane.” Shane rolls his eyes again, but he’s smiling as he saunters towards Ilya.

Ilya's Soup for Ilya's Shane by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

Finally, Shane lifts his eyes from the computer screen. He removes his glasses, a move that Ilya silently mourns, and sets them aside. Shane's eyes are duller than usual, and the tiniest bit bloodshot. His cheeks are flush in a way that is not fun and sexy but reads more fever and germs.
He looks so tired.
“You, and do not take this the wrong way, look like shit.”
“Fuck off, Rozanov!”

Devour was a good word for what Ilya wanted to do to Shane. Eat. Devour. Rolled off the tongue. But he hated that he could not think of an English word to convey the resonant, drilling consonants ringing in his brain when he kissed Shane with depth and hunger bordering on cannibalistic. The consonants in the Russian word that meant an act between consume and gobble up, with hard zh and rolling r sounds, were a crunch so delicious he could chew on it forever. Sometimes Shane felt like that. Like the crunchiest, most delicious hard candy in the mouth. God, the stupid fucking English. or Ilya thinks in English. With Russian subtitles.

“So,” Shane said, after another minute. “Welcome to Montreal.”
Ilya just started laughing, his body shaking against Shane’s.
“Do not tell me you prepare for all your home games this way,” he said.
“I shouldn’t have prepared for any home games this way,” Shane said, glancing at the clock by the bed. He should go, but he couldn’t make himself.

“You are the best,” Ilya mumbled as he put his head back down. Shane smiled, ran his fingers through Ilya’s curls, “We’re the best when we’re together,” he responded. It was their truth. Domestic fluff with Ilya and Shane. A special night at the cottage.
