Hayden and Jackie exchange a glance. “Have you noticed anything . . . different . . . about Arthur?” Hayden asks. Now it’s Shane and Ilya’s turn to exchange a glance. Shane shrugs. “Not really,” he says. “He’s kind of just like I was when I was a kid. Maybe being quiet is a bit odd for this family, but it’s not abnormal.” He expects Ilya to back him up, but Ilya hesitates. “He does not play like his sisters,” Ilya says. Shane looks at Ilya out of the corner of his eye. Clearly he’s missed something. Ilya isn’t making jokes, which means something about this conversation is serious. “You’re not worried about him, are you?” Shane asks. “No, no, no,” Jackie says. “We weren’t worried at all, actually, because he’s so similar to you. But, well, his preschool teachers pointed out some things and we looked into it a bit, and we ended up getting him tested. And, well. He’s autistic.” or Arthur Pike gets diagnosed with autism. “Sylvia,” Shane murmured, clearly mortified.
“What?” she said innocently. “I’m just saying. And I’m also saying that a certain someone here, hasn’t stopped staring at someone else since they walked in. Their partner has been doing all of the work.” A brow was quirked towards the Russian paramedic.
Ilya nearly dropped his gauze “Da- I mean no, I—” he started, then stopped, flustered.
Shane looked like he wanted the floor to swallow him whole.
Cliff snorted under his breath and turned away, suddenly very interested in the supply bag.
Sylvia leaned toward Shane. “Ask for his number,” she whispered loudly enough that it wasn’t a whisper at all. “They’ll be taking me away in T-minus five minutes. You don’t wanna miss your shot kiddo!”
Or Shane is a Librarian and Ilya is a Paramedic. They meet , fall in love, have a baby together . Oh and Shane is Autistic and worries a lot.

Warm hands suddenly encased his, pulling them away from his shirt collar and back down onto the table. Ilya doesn’t think much of his own impulses. He goes to a bar, he finds a pretty girl, he has sex. He catches Sasha’s eye from across the locker room, and then they’re in the same toilet stall, noises bitten away before they become dangerous. Svetlana invites him over when her father is away, and he kisses her on top of her quilted bedspread, hard from the feel of her under his hands and, a little bit, from the anticipation of the beating he’ll get if the Minister walks in on him. She scratches her fingers through his hair afterwards and he traces letters into the skin above her knee.
So when he gets the impulse to buy Hollander flowers, he doesn’t hesitate. Maybe it’s because Hollander is so cute with his little freckles. Maybe because he gets irritated so easily, that flush spilling down his collarbones to his chest. Maybe Ilya just wants to reward him for opening the door after that CCM shoot, or for letting Ilya suck his dick after the All-Stars even with Scott Hunter next door.

Shane works hard, almost too hard. It feels strange for Ilya to complain about his lover working hard and being good at his job that he's constantly so busy but he can't help as he feels bad for Shane. But you have to understand Ilya, Shane is not great at managing his stress levels which usually ends in the man being worn out. He's seen Shane after a hard day of work– he's quiet, his voice soft as he speaks to Ilya, his voice light and kind even throughout his sluggish movements. Ilya knows Shane isn't someone who's usually very loud, opting for a more relaxed voice but even then, it's not usual for Shane to speak so low and murmured– like now.

The thing is, Shane's gone non-verbal a few times now to not be scared by it and just ignore it until he feels good again. It usually happened when he was stressed, overwhelmed or overthinking, sometimes all three at the same time when he played a bad game and analyzed it a million times until he figured out exactly what he needed to practice on for the next few days. This time though, Shane was absolutely not stressed, everything was perfect so it made no sense for him to suddenly feel this. He's been at the cottage with Ilya for almost two weeks now, all they've done is talk, swim, fuck and eat, it's been so good, he's had no stress so why was he feeling this enormous pang of discomfort?
