Mr. Answer Man by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Game Changers | Heated Rivalry - All Media Types
2026-07-20
In room 1410, Ilya Rozanov is ready to walk out the door after successfully getting his 19 year old hockey rival into bed. He knew how to make this moment happen and he knows what they have to be to each other now that it's over. But as he turns the doorknob to leave, he's stopped with questions he never expected. And giving Shane Hollander what he needs in that moment will change everything.
I note which chapters are SFW vs NFSW, because many of you said knowing meant the difference between reading this on your lunch break or having to wait. (Thank you for wanting to read my work that much.)
Covers the first two years of their rookie seasons (which is mostly skipped over in the show/books). Canon divergent from the first hookup seen in HR s01ep01. Most things are from the show but the timeline is a mix of both; Hunter and Marleau are aged up per the show instead of as young as they are in the books. (Also, Shane and Ilya don't wait *two years*, they stick to the book timeline. IYKYK.)
Please note this will the first in a series; you can subscribe to the whole series as well so you don't miss anything :)

There was a small recoil, nothing Shane would consciously register as a recoil, just a slight drawing-back of his head and a micro-expression crossing the bridge of his nose.
His brows pulled together for one second, and he pulled the carton away from his face, examining the opening.
Ilya Rozanov has seven cameras. Ilya Rozanov has a blog.
His gay roommate doesn't know about any of this.

“What? Hollander too scared to face me?” Ilya chirps, because if he goes another minute without at least mentioning the man that has been consuming his every thought for two weeks he might go insane. He needs someone else to acknowledge his existence, his absence, to fucking tell him what’s going on so he can finally get it off his mind. It’s just a stupid mystery. That’s why it bugs him.
And then Hayden Pike looks up. Dark bruised circles under his eyes, face pale like a sheet, eyes red rimmed and puffy like he has been crying all day. The face of a man mourning.
Ilya feels like the ice might crack under him. Something’s wrong with Shane.

Still, the knife is a firm pressure into his lower back, his fists balling up at his sides, and his breathing irregular from the blade digging into his back. Behind him, a thick and velvety Russian-accented voice offers as he pulls the wired headphones out with a strange amount of something approaching care, “Perhaps, you are stupid for leaving door unlocked, Mr. Hockey Star.” AKA: these two are fucking freaks and roleplay a break-and-entering uhhh non-con situation but they're both bad at being casual about it.

“Yes. In recent games-” Ilya paused. Hollander didn’t interrupt him. “Have you read what they said about you?”
“Who’s they?”
“People. Hockey people.”
Hollander stared Ilya down. “Is this supposed to motivate me?”
“No, um, I-”
“You should see the shit they say about *you*.”
Ilya most definitely did see it.The NHL adds another team, resulting in an expansion draft. Shane and Ilya, both nearing the end of their careers at age 35, find themselves on the new team. Can they both prove that they’re not “too old” to lead a team to victory? And can they be honest with each other in the process?

Shane Hollander knows he’s not a small guy. Years of hockey and workouts have built up his muscles, and lucky genetics from his father’s side places him just shy of six feet. He’s checked hockey players half a foot and several pounds more than him, knocked Scott Hunter into the ice in the one fight he’s ever actually thrown hands in. But as much as Shane loves the game, the fast movements, passes, and team camaraderie, there were times where he could only feel regret at following the path of athletic fame. He puts on the media smile he practices in the mirror as he brushes his hair each day, uses the bright lights of press conferences to erase his view of the audience, and keeps his answers simple and focused on hockey.
The number of people outside the arena still makes him feel crushed in on all sides, small. Eyes trained on his face, cameras flashing, pens and cell phones being passed into his hands. The itch of it all settles under his skin.

Ilya Rozanov, break out star of the hit show Skating Limits, has a problem. His stalker is escalating to violence and ruining the press tour for the new season. Naturally, his agent and childhood friend, Svetlana, has a solution to the problem: Shane Hollander, former Secret Service agent and private bodyguard.
Shane, however, has his reservations about the job. He doesn't work with celebrities. Celebrities are security risks and they don't listen. So Ilya will have to play ball, or Shane will break their contract, leaving him exposed to the man hunting him.
Despite the risks, they don't seem to be able to stay away from one another anyway. While Ilya contends with his growing feelings, Shane is more than ready to do whatever it takes to protect his principal.
