  2. Hayden Pike and his group chat of coworkers are pretty sure their new manager Shane has a parasocial obsession with a professional hockey player.

He talks about him constantly, knows everything about him, watches every game, and even has candid photos of him that are definitely not available through conventional sources. So naturally, they decide to intervene to find him a man who actually knows he exists.

Shane, for his part, has no idea what they're talking about.

What a surprise! We've just spotted a very familiar car to dedicated #Metros fans in the parking lot at #PlaceBell where one of our #TRANScendingTheCloset camps is held... 👀

Bridgeford is a small, quiet town. Too dull to hold someone like Ilya, a restless young alpha always chasing something sharper, faster, louder. Too suffocating for Shane, an omega who’s spent too long under watchful eyes, tired of being seen as a social case just because he's an omega.

One last summer. That's all they both have to live through before they're both off to the big city. That was the plan.

Until fate pulls a few strings, and suddenly, two complete strangers feel drawn to each other in all the wrong ways.

  5. Shane Hollander thought that everyone hated Ilya Rozanov. Okay, so maybe they didn't all hate him for the same reasons: hockey players hated him because he was an asshole on the ice, the League hated him because he paralyzed another player, and the fans hated him because he abandoned them for Russia in the middle of his best season.

Shane only hated him because he broke Shane's heart.

But suddenly up is down and down is up: the ban has been lifted, and Rozanov is back in the League. Worse, he's playing on Shane's team. Making friends with Shane's teammates. Sending heart eyes across Shane's locker room floor. Sending flowers to Shane's apartment in the middle of the night!

And somehow, everyone in Shane's life thinks he should be just fine with all this. (Well, okay—he didn't tell them about the flowers.)

But if Ilya Rozanov thinks that Shane Hollander is going to roll over for him a second time, he's going to have just enough time to regret it before Shane proves how very, very wrong he is...

  7. “Okay.” J.J. finished his beer, depositing the bottle on the coffee table and looked at Ilya. “Do you wanna play a game?”

    Another eyebrow raise from Ilya.

“I call it Jackie or Shane, a game where I tell you an actual real quote that I heard Hayden say and you have to guess if he said it to his wife or his best friend.”

    Ilya blinked.

    J.J. held eye contact.

  8. Ilya starts calling Shane boring regularly after that, not cruelly but persistently, the way you press a bruise you know is there just to confirm it still hurts. Shane's cereal is boring, Shane's training schedule is boring, Shane's shoes lined up by the door are boring, and Shane responds with variations of "fuck off" and "you're an asshole" that become increasingly creative and occasionally surprising. They do not talk about anything that matters. They talk about groceries and whose turn it is to take out the trash and whether Ilya's music is too loud at midnight, which it is. On the ice, Shane is someone else entirely. Ilya watches him from the upper stands every morning with vending machine coffee going cold in his hand and doesn't tell anyone. Or: Shane asked Ilya once how you know when it's the right person. Ilya described Shane to him, and Shane didn't recognise himself.

Unknown Number: Lily, I got your number off Shane’s phone

  13. The elevator was full. Too many people were packed in like sardines, and their suitcases just made the squeeze even more unbearable. JJ didn’t feel the need to add to it. He was six-foot-five and as wide as a brick wall. He didn’t want to be packed in there any more than they wanted to share the space with him.

He decided to take the stairs.

  14. Invitation to team Canada's hockey camp before the winter Olympic games 2018 cannot come at a better time for Cliff Marleau. A break from the explosive atmosphere in Boston. From a captain with something to hide and even more to prove.
Playing with the stoic Montreal captain Hollander for a while sounds like a fucking holiday to Marleau. Except something must have shifted in Montreal too, because on second look, Hollander seems anything but stoic.

It's Ilya's last year in Boston. With Shane, they have a secret and a plan. The secret cannot handle Cliff Marleau getting to know Shane and recognising too much of Ilya in him.

Shane stared up at the ceiling. Everything he’d been keeping inside for the last month was threatening to boil over into a ugly mess, and his eyes stung. “I thought that if I could just ignore it, it would go away. I thought that if I gave it more time, I’d keep myself from doing something drastic.”

He rubbed at his face and kept his hands there, a shield to protect him from the weight of the decision he couldn’t keep running from. “It’s been weeks, and I don’t know what to do. I feel sick every time I think about going back, but…” He looked at Ilya and saw the blue eyes there creased with concern, sadness, and that simmering anger at everything that had ever hurt Shane. He sniffed. “I don’t think I’m strong enough to leave. Leaving feels like giving up. But so does staying.”

“No.” Ilya shook his head and shuffled forward so his body was mirroring Shane’s, twin parentheses encompassing their shared years in between worn bodies. “No, my love.”

Or: After the playoffs end for Montreal and Ottawa, Shane has a decision to make. His relationship with the Metros is on thin ice, and it might take a couple Centaurs to break it for good.

  16. Carter Vaughn (NY):

You know all of a sudden Hollanders lack of texts seems really ominous

    You good there @Hollander

    You:

    No

No I am not because one of the stupid fucking 19 year olds I’m somehow responsible for decided not to wear his bloody mouthguard at afternoon skate and the absolute dumbass took a stick to the face

So now I’m sitting in the ER waiting for him to get back from xray because of course its the one rookie who isn’t with a billet family

    Why are they like this?

    Lily:

Their mothers didn't drop them on their heads enough as babys so the universe decided to do it for them

  17. The Montreal vs. Boston rivalry is a thing of legend.

Only Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov know what lives underneath it.

When someone calling themselves The Loon begins leaving cryptic and threatening messages, Shane and Ilya understand two things:

    Someone knows.

And they cannot ask for help without explaining why.

The Loon believes something sacred has been corrupted.

    They intend to correct it.

  18. "Dude," Steddy skated up to him, "if we really have a gay teammate, which, given what you and Pikey have been up to, is likely, they probably don't trust us for shit."
"Yeah," his fellow D, Gagny, piped up, "that's gotta impact play."
"We have got to get our shit together if we want another cup," Steddy continued.
"Gentlemen, gentlemen, don't you worry, I have a plan."
"This is why you are the best, JJ."

  20. The problem was that everyone who played for Boston, except for Ilya, was like a million years old and had forgotten what fun was, if they’d ever known. They were all, like, married with kids and their idea of a good time was a barbecue where they drank a few flat weak-ass beers and or went golfing. Ilya just wanted to have fun, okay? He just wanted to live.

    or

Ilya gets traded to Montreal. Everything goes better than expected.
