Shane stared up at the ceiling. Everything he’d been keeping inside for the last month was threatening to boil over into a ugly mess, and his eyes stung. “I thought that if I could just ignore it, it would go away. I thought that if I gave it more time, I’d keep myself from doing something drastic.”

He rubbed at his face and kept his hands there, a shield to protect him from the weight of the decision he couldn’t keep running from. “It’s been weeks, and I don’t know what to do. I feel sick every time I think about going back, but…” He looked at Ilya and saw the blue eyes there creased with concern, sadness, and that simmering anger at everything that had ever hurt Shane. He sniffed. “I don’t think I’m strong enough to leave. Leaving feels like giving up. But so does staying.”

“No.” Ilya shook his head and shuffled forward so his body was mirroring Shane’s, twin parentheses encompassing their shared years in between worn bodies. “No, my love.”

Or: After the playoffs end for Montreal and Ottawa, Shane has a decision to make. His relationship with the Metros is on thin ice, and it might take a couple Centaurs to break it for good.

  2. Hayden cuts himself off at the sound of something he hears so rarely, he’s almost sure he’s imagining it. He scans the room, looking for the source, and sure enough, his eyes land on his target.

There, nestled in between two of his teammates on the couch, is Shane Hollander.

    Laughing. Out loud. Audibly.

Like, he’s actually fucking laughing, not the fake laughs he forces out to make other people more comfortable. In fact, he’s laughing so hard, he looks like he might cry, and Hayden would be delighted by the sight of it if he weren’t so fucking concerned. Shane Hollander doesn’t laugh at parties. Shane Hollander barely laughs when he’s actually happy, and he’s never happy at parties. So what gives?

    Or:

Shane Hollander accidentally gets very high. That's it, that's the fic.

  3. It's Shane's first game playing against Montreal, and he's feeling a lot of things. Ilya's also feeling a lot of things. - “Do not play. Please,” Ilya said, tracing over Shane’s freckles almost reverently. “Are you asking me as my husband, or telling me as my captain?” Shane already knew the answer. Ilya would never order him off the ice against his will unless it was a medical necessity. Ilya’s voice sounded raw as he answered. “Asking. Begging.”
