“I’m not sure of the exact reasons Montreal has, but the League needs a distraction from the bad press.” Laurenti’s face twists with disapproval. “Crowell’s known to be friendly with the Morin family, they own the Metros. Crowell must have asked for a favor and who knows what he’s promised them in return. Who better to distract from a scandal than Canada’s favorite son?”

The realization hits Ilya like a punch to the solar plexus.

“They’re trading Shane fucking Hollander?” Reilly questions with utter disbelief. It takes a half second more before he follows the question with another. “We’re signing him?”

    -

News that Dallas Kent, up and coming star center for the Toronto Guardians, is wanted for murder breaks during the Sochi Olympics.

Neither Shane nor Ilya have any idea that it will change their lives.

In late October, Ilya picks up some kind of freakish Canadian flu that dogs him into November.

It is the weirdest shit. He has to duck out of practice because his nose starts bleeding twice in one week and he wakes up in a hotel in Columbus with another one that leaves stains on the pillow. On the flight back to Ottawa, Hazy drops into the seat next to Ilya midflight and asks, "This isn't, like, a cocaine thing, right?"

Ilya laughs so hard it's probably a little rude.

They have a plan. Ilya's body has a different plan.

  3. Summer, 2021. Shane Hollander is Major League Hockey's hottest free agent. MLH fans and organizations alike must grapple with their expectations: Hollander is not the young man the league discarded in 2017, for better or worse. There is more to his life than hockey, even if he says frustratingly little about his boyfriend, another player known only as Lily.

When the Ottawa Centaurs lace up for the 2021-2022 season with a stacked lineup, failure is not an option. What the world believes to be the newest iteration of a longstanding rivalry just might be hockey's greatest love story.

  4. If you’re wondering what the fuck happened to Scott Hunter, the answer is this: a series of cascading catastrophic decisions. A domino effect, a Rube Goldberg machine that starts at a club in Ibiza and ends with him eating a Montreal bagel on the floor.

In which Scott Hunter accepts a trade to Montreal, just as Shane Hollander is named captain.

Rozanov says, "you always keep your mark covered," and Shane desperately wishes they were back to talking about women.

"Yup," he agrees and takes a drink from the ginger ale in his hand just to have something to do. He's going to have to start pretending like it's still got liquid in it soon, if this continues.

"The women I am with always want to see if we are soulmates, they do not do this with you?" Rozanov is staring at him again, right hand raised so that Shane can see the colors shift red and teal and yellow and pink and green and his left hand still down his fucking pants.

  6. It was a Friday when the video dropped.

“What is happening?” He asked St Simon, who was holding his phone tight to his chest, his expression odd. “Someone has died?”

Across the room he could see Marlow moving slowly upright from where he had been doing floor stretches, his phone in his hand as well, his face pinched.

    “It’s Hollander,” St Simon said.

The bottom of Ilya’s stomach fell out, closely followed by the rest of Ilya’s organs. His chest hurt so acutely that he thought he must be having a heart attack.

“Not dead,” St Simon added quickly, reaching out to grab Ilya’s shoulder when Ilya’s knees actually buckled. “Jesus, sorry. I should have - no it’s just -”

“Someone tell me what the fuck is going on,” Ilya snapped, “and everyone else shut up.”

Marlow reached him now, held his phone out to Ilya, open already to an article with a headline huge enough Ilya could easily make out the HOLLANDER blaring out of it even before his eyes focused and he took the phone from Marlow.

A video is posted online, for Shane it feels like a death sentence. For some parts of him, it is.

  7. Shane Hollander enters his rookie season focused on one thing only: playing the best damn hockey he can, and earning a spot in history as one of the greatest players in the league. Standing between him and his goal is Boston’s own promising young rookie, Alexei Rozanov.

Shane doesn’t particularly care about having a rival, but Rozanov seems as good a choice as any. He’s rude, arrogant, obnoxious off the ice and frustrating on it. And he’s pretty damn good at hockey.

Unfortunately, he also has a younger brother, who Shane finds much more interesting.

The Hollander-Rozanov rivalry is alive and well. And caught in the middle of it, is Ilya.

    “What the fuck is this?”

“Ahhh, is where I can see all my ratings and reviews from rides I’ve given,” Ilya said, winked, “rides on my dick.”

    Shane blinked at him. “What.”

“Is silly app,” Ilya said, turned the phone back to himself, and then clicked into Svetlana’s latest review - just the preview of it in which it showed she’d given him five stars and a tip, as well as leaving a photo - and then turned the phone back to Shane. “My friend made for me as silly present. Sometimes I share with people I fuck, and they rate me. Is funny.”

This is a silly fic that takes itself seriously. Ilya has a app to rate him in bed, and Shane is mad, horny, and also going to fill out his ride reviews every single time with dedication and focus.

  9. Shane Hollander is a former professional cyclist who now owns a bike shop in Colorado. Ilya Rozanov, the tattoo artist who owns the shop next door, thinks boy scout Shane Hollander should take a ride on his motorcycle instead. But what starts out as a casual fling can't stay that way for long--not once Shane and Ilya discover the depths of their chemistry (and Ilya the many benefits of little spandex shorts). Both of them have been hurt before, and the only way to move forward is to get over their pasts. It's a hill climb in both directions, but if Shane Hollander can do anything, it's push himself to endure the burn when he knows the ride home will be that much more satisfying.

  10. There was no “No Son of Mine” lecture, no slurs were ever thrown around, and neither Shane nor Ilya were ever banished from Yuna and David’s house or life. Instead, a quiet questioning began, where all of Shane’s choices were investigated for motive and reason.

When did this start? When did it become serious? Are you sure about this?

When David first walked in on Shane and Ilya kissing, and Shane had to make what felt like a walk of shame to his parents house with Ilya in tow, he assumed that all he had to do was rip the bandaid off. There was no more hiding, there was no pretending this didn’t happen. The truth was out there whether he liked it or not, and he was vocal with Ilya about not liking it at all. But, he told himself, he just had to man up. He could do this. Rip the bandaid off, tell the truth, and tomorrow will be better.

He was really incredibly wrong about that.

Or: When Shane’s parents find out he’s gay and dating Ilya, they don’t accept it – instead, they push back. What follows is two of the most difficult years of Shane’s life. AU after Book 2/Season 1.

  11. There’s still a big part of him that wants all the same things he used to. The hockey, those other interests, the simplicity of the smaller circle. But there’s a twinge of something else now beside it when he considers it for too long, a bruise he can’t place the origins of. He’d been able to put somewhat of a name to it, after Rose.

He only wishes he hadn’t filled in the rest of the blanks staring down at a grainy photograph of Svetlana Vetrova in a convenience store parking lot in Boston, a bag hanging off of her manicured finger just transparent enough to make out the logo of a First Response as she’d ducked into a sleek, black sports car, driving away with Shane's best worst would-have-been and, presumably, Ilya Rozanov's baby.

Shane feels no particular way about this turn of events. He really, honestly, mostly is somewhat close to believing that, too. It's progress.

  14. The Centaurs Rookies ask about Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov's coming out plans, only to find out that said plans are very, very bad.

Upon pointing out the flaws in the plans, Shane and Ilya get defensive; insisting that they don't need help from "a bunch of stupid boys".

Taking this personally, the Rookies then come up with a plan to fix their coming out plans by exposing them to the reality of what the internet is saying about them.

  16. “Hello? What is going on? Did you mean to call me?” Ilya asked nervously, glancing around at his team to make sure they weren’t focused on him, confirming that most of them were either undressing and checking their own phones or teasing St. Simone about the new tattoo he had gotten the other day.

“I—I think—” Shane stuttered, and Ilya frowned when he heard another scream from Shane’s end of the line that didn’t sound like a gleeful hockey celebration. Was there something beeping loudly, too?

“I think the plane is crashing.”

And Ilya’s world came crumbling down.

  17. At twenty-one, Ilya Rozanov is the Soviet Union’s most perfect weapon, a soldier of the Red Machine who has spent three years locked in a silent, jagged war on the ice with Canada’s golden boy, Shane Hollander.

When the Montreal Metros claim him as a "wasted" mid-round draft pick, the rivalry transforms from a professional grudge into a desperate lifeline. On the final night of the 1988 Calgary Olympics, he risks everything, his family, his career, and his safety, to start a new life in the West. Forced into a high-stakes billet under the roof of his bitter professional rival, Ilya must navigate a world where freedom feels like a new kind of prison.

  19. Shane didn’t remember his first time skating, but he remembered when hockey became a career, when he became the vessel for his parents’ dreams, when his hockey ability came second to where his ancestors were born or who he loved, when he became a brand. Somewhere in these memories, though he couldn’t say exactly where, he learned to hide himself.

And then, behind an arena in Regina, he met Ilya Rozanov, who managed to see him anyway. The hours they spent together each year became the only time Shane could breathe, until being apart felt like suffocating. But Shane had entered the hockey world with two strikes against him, and he couldn’t let Ilya become his third.
