  1. After Shane walks out post-tuna melt, Ilya Rozanov walks through hell to remind himself who he is, a man ready to salt the fucking Earth for his people.

Shane’s not even pretending he’s capable of being rational about it, he isn’t, his world is falling apart at the seams and he’s fairly sure he’s losing his mind.

“Just-” Ilya starts, intending to tease, the offer of a massage more about getting Hollander back in a more relaxed headspace than anything else, but then the wire-tight tension in the muscles under his fingers registers, and he frowns, pressing testingly before making a noise of disapproval. “Fuck, Hollander, you are secretly doing crime or what?”

“What?” Hollander asks, confused, starting to lift his head before Ilya pushes it back down absently, focused now on feeling out the knots Hollander seems to be completely made of. He’s felt tension in Hollander’s shoulders before, usually during coaxing little squeezes while coaching him through learning how to deep throat, but he’s always written it off as nerves from learning something new.

Now he wonders if Hollander is just nerves, period.

(the "ilya massages shane" fic inspired by hudson saying that playing shane made him sore because he was so tense all the time)

  3. Ilya has a bad night waiting for the visiting hours to start so he can see Shane after watching him go down on the ice. For he spends the night with his brain creating patterns between the stillness of Shane on the ice and the stillness of his Mother when he found her. And the possibilities of if Shane wakes up but starts having confusion and memory problems like his father. He spirals fast.

  4. Ilya didn’t want him to go. He wanted to go out with Svetlana, who was glamorous and fun, and could dance all night in four-inch heels. Not Shane, who felt about dance floors the way squirrels probably felt about four-lane highways.

Shane decides it's time to learn to dance.

  5. The first thing you should know about time loops is that they’re really fucking hard to break. The second thing is that you can never break one in such a way that it is incapable of returning.

The third thing you should know is that everyone around you has probably been stuck in a time loop at one point or another, and they made it out alive. This is only comforting if you’re a numbers guy, or if you’re the kind of guy who talks to others about how it feels to live the same day over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Shame if you’re not; the most important thing you should know about breaking a time loop is that it helps to tell someone you’re trapped in one in the first place.

  6. "That's Shane Hollander," someone murmured next to him. "What's he doing here?" "He said Ilya," a neighbor called back. "Ilya Rozanov lives there." "Oh god," someone else said loudly, watching the flames continue to consume the house. Shane vaguely heard them talk, but the words in his head were all Ilya, Ilya, Ilya. "Ilya's in there!" Shane didn't even process that he was now screaming. He was too focused on getting to Ilya, on why the body he'd spent so many years working on wasn't strong enough to burst through the barricade. A window suddenly blew out, and Shane was staggering like he was in the room, his body slumping towards the ground before his mother's arms caught him.

  7. Yuna laughs quietly, then sighs. “The doctors still don’t understand what is happening. His vitals and brain function is fine, normal. But he won’t wake up.” Ilya’s lips curve into a small smile, “Like Sleeping Beauty.” That earns him another laugh from Shane’s mom, “Yes. He just needs true love’s kiss to wake up. Good thing you’re coming then, hm?” -- A car accident leaves Shane in a coma. But it's okay, his Prince Charming is coming to wake him up.

  8. Shane and Ilya invite Scott and Kip up to the cottage for a much needed vacation. It's meant to be a fun relaxing weekend and Ilya plans on making everything perfect. It's been over a year since Ilya stopped hurting himself, but an accidental kitchen mishap nearly sends him spiraling. Good thing Scott and Kip are there to help him through it.

Sequel to Showing Up For Him but can be read as a standalone.

  10. “You are my friend, Hayden, but he is the man I am going to spend to rest of my life with - he is the man that I love. I will choose him over you, every fucking time.” Over anything and everything, Shane would choose Ilya. Even over hockey, if it came to that. There’s no doubt in his mind, no question about it. Losing hockey would hurt, and Shane would grieve it, but it wouldn’t kill him. It would be an ache he could live with. Losing Ilya is not something that Shane could ever survive. They’re so tangled together - so intertwined - that to lose Ilya would be to lose himself.

  11. Svetlana knows about Jane. It's frankly insulting for Ilyusha to think otherwise.

She just never expected to have to call him for help. During the Olympics. In Russia. In the dead of night.

    -
Or, it's Sochi 2014 and Russia has lost to Latvia. Grigori Rozanov, not yet compromised by illness, punishes his son for shaming the family. When Svetlana finds an injured and emotionally fragile Ilya, she knows she needs somewhere safe for him to recover. And there's only one person in Russia who Sveta trusts with her Ilyusha: Canada's Golden Boy, Shane Hollander.

  12. “You like this.” Ilya said more like a statement than a question.

    “Like what?”

“When I said that this is something serious.”

    Shane blushed and looked away.

Ilya gently grabbed Shane's chin and brought his face up to meet Ilya’s eyes.

    “I like it too.”

Shane and Ilya don’t hook up until a little later on in their story, but not for lack of trying or interest. When they do finally get together, things move faster and feelings are expressed sooner. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t difficult moments to overcome on the path to their happy ending.

This story is an exploration of a completely alternative timeline in the Hollanov love story—using a combination of the show and the original Heated Rivalry and Long Game books. There will be pining, yearning, big emotional moments, and angsty roadblocks. With, of course, a very happy ending for our boys.

  13. “-can’t see each other again,” Ilya says, looking only at Shane’s hand, holding it so, so gently and stroking over Shane’s skin so, so softly. The soothing feeling of it makes it very hard to focus, but Shane tries very hard to do it anyway. “I tried-we tried, but this can’t happen again.” It takes a moment, but Shane finally manages to make sense of the words, and he lets out a soft noise of understanding. Ah. He’s apologizing that he won’t be able to see Shane in the hospital again before he leaves. “I understand,” he says, and he does. It was probably really hard for Ilya to get here even once, and it can’t be very long before his plane leaves. He’s sad, of course–they didn’t even get to spend time together, really–but it’s not like this will be the last chance they ever have to see each other. He gives Ilya his best attempt at a smile, and if it comes out a little sad, too, all Ilya does is reach out to stroke the backs of his fingers gently over his cheek. (ilya goes through with his plan to break up with shane in the hospital) (the problem? shane is too high to understand that he's being broken up with)

  14. “My boyfriend thinks I’m an idiot,” Ilya says. "Well, not really but a bit, maybe.”

“Your boyfriend?” Sandra, the queer studies professor sits down, hard.

“Yes, he thinks it is not smart to say faggot in the locker room when you are locked in the closet and Russia has the keys.”

Ilya had been talking about himself when he’d said it. Making a joke. Sailing a little close to the wind, sick of listening to the background hum of homophobic bullshit. But someone had been filming. The video went viral. The Raiders panicked under the terrible PR. Now he was here.

Sent to Queer Studies 101 to appease twitter. Because he’d been cancelled. For being a homophobe. If was fucking ridiculous.

He turns to the professor. “So, can you help me take on Putin and NHL at same time or I need more advanced class for this?”

Plus Chapter 2 – Social media chapter. Once they've been outed, Ilya gets to demand an apology from twitter.

Everything she ever knew or felt about the Russian whose hand she now clung to was dissolved Shane Hollander briefly dies on the Ice after the hit from Marlow in the Montreal vs Boston Game. 18. The chime sounded as the elevator arrived. Shane rolled his shoulders back and gave himself one final look in the mirrored surface. His reflection split in two as the doors opened in the center like a hungry mouth about to swallow him whole. Where Shane’s face had stared back at him a split second ago stood Rozanov.

A black hole opened itself in the center of Shane’s torso, dragging his organs, muscles, bones, nerve endings from the furthest points of his body inwards to collapse upon themselves. His brain was static on a muted television. Instructions failed to materialize; he had no plan for this.

Rozanov stared at him, unmoving except for an almost imperceptible hitch in his breath. Time slowed. It had a funny way of doing that around Rozanov.

Yuna’s entire body aches, and it would appear that her instincts were right— Rozanov is small, and he’s vulnerable, and he’s tired, and he needed somewhere safe to rest.

And Yuna can’t help the weird sense that she’s honoured— her home was somewhere for Rozanov to go, even if she and David knew nothing about any of it, even if they still don’t, Shane knew it would be safe for Rozanov here. Shane told him to come home.
