It's the Metros' season; Shane knows it. And no matter how many hits he takes, Shane's always been good at getting back on the ice.
Letting Ilya Rozanov touch his bruised body when he comes off the ice doesn't change anything. It can't; Shane knows that, too.

Shane heard the blade coming down right by his ear. The schlick of it as it sliced through the ice, echoing in the arena, the place eerily silent in a way Shane had never witnessed before.
Then, a gasp.

Set after The Long Game A few years after Shane has joined the Ottawa Centaurs, captained by his husband, he does a Wired Autocomplete Interview where he accidentally gives away a few shocking facts that hockey fans had not been privy to prior to that point (including, perhaps, what went down during his fight with Scott Hunter all those years ago and maybe also that he and Ilya had been seeing each other for a lot longer than most people expected) and then he has to learn to deal with the internet storm that followed, along with some annoying reactions from friends and family. Including: lots of teasing, lame jokes, cursing, viral tweets, trending hashtags and one exasperated Shane Hollander.

“Oh,” Shane says dumbly, glancing down at his rumpled suit. “No,” he adds.

"You should grow this longer," Rozanov once said, running his fingers through Shane's practical cut, the same one he had since he was fifteen. Rozanov's blond curls had fallen in his eyes. Behind them, his blue eyes glittered like he was looking at the sun. "You would be so lovely."
It felt like being lit on fire.
Or; Shane is Rozanov's girl.

When Roz starts speaking, frantically letting out Russian words from his hospital bed, Troy jumps in fear. “Ty emu uzhe pozvonila? Gde mama?” While Troy might not know Russian, or any other Slavic language that might have offered him some sort of context, he understands the word for mother. His heart clenches in his chest. Calling for your mom, especially when you’re hurt and confused feels instinctive. Troy is pretty sure he’d do the same thing. But the thought of coming out of your dazed state while desperately wanting your mom, and the loss of your mom coming crashing down on you must be a different type of agony. Roz starts speaking again, Russian coming to him easier than English must. “Mama? Gde moya mama?”

Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)

But against all odds, Ilya gets a cup for his new team before Shane’s retirement, their rivalry now more intense before his rival falls off the face of the earth. Then, one Stanley cup – after three decades of not bringing home any banners, Ilya Rozanov finally helps win them a Cup– The TV shuts off, effect disconcerting as two familiar silhouettes sit on a couch, a curly mop of hair and a neatly combed back wolfcut. A tiny, bald head comes into view when Ilya turns, encasing a baby in his arms, so cute and pudgy and under no dispute is definitely a Hollander-Rozanov. “...What?” he asks with a grin, a mildly annoyed expression on Shane’s face. Shane reaches out to close hands over the baby’s ears, “You watch your back, Rozanov,” he mumbles threateningly, “The moment I return on ice, your winning streak is over,” ; Ilya gets Shane pregnant. A happy accident if anything.

“Be careful,” Shane frets, one hand hovering over Ilya’s shoulder. “It’s icy, and I don’t want to be a widower.” “Oh, we’d have to be much higher than this for the fall to kill me,” Ilya says, gaze still fixed on the cool black skyline. “At least seven stories.” It’s not until much later, as the waitress is clearing the dishes from dinner, that Yuna finds herself wondering why Ilya knows exactly how high a fall needs to be in order to kill him. Or: Yuna learns about Ilya's past bit by bit over the years.
