  1. It wasn’t his first hockey fight, not by far. After decades of playing, it was impossible to avoid the occasional scrum. It just wasn’t something that Shane purposefully tried to get involved in. He wasn’t like Ilya, he didn’t find joy in pushing and prodding at the other team until one of them snapped and threw a punch. When a scrum did break out, he hardly ever joined the fray, preferring instead to focus on managing the refs and trying to get his team out of the fight with as few penalties as possible. When Shane’s fist connected with Comeau’s cheekbone, Shane grinned. -- Or, the moment Shane realized he played his last game as a Montreal Metro and has to come to terms with everything that means after. Featuring Shane realizing he's not as okay as he seems, and Ilya trying to figure out how he can help.

  3. Ilya knows firsthand that the world isn’t comfortable. It’s loud, bright, demanding, a harsh place in direct opposition to everything he’s recently learned about autism.

Is it so wrong that he wants Shane to feel safe here? To carve out a space where, even if only for a few hours, he doesn’t have to grin and bear anything? He can just be?

Or: Ilya Rozanov has a lot of good ideas. Telling his fuck buddy that he should consider getting an autism diagnosis isn’t one of them.

  4. "You will bend for me many times, I think, before this production is over." Shane means to say no. He means to tell Ilya Rozanov—arrogant Bolshoi principal dancer and professional pain in his ass—to fuck off and stop moving set pieces without permission. Instead, he ends up on his knees in a dressing room, which is definitely not how the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s stage manager is supposed to handle conflict resolution. Three weeks until opening night. One impossible rivalry. And absolutely no way this ends well. or: Ilya comes to Winnipeg for The Nutcracker. Shane tries very hard to hate him. The mind- blowing hate-sex doesn’t help.

  6. “I’m Shane. Hollander. Vampire hunter,” The introduction would be madness anywhere else. But Shane had ducked out to catch his breath, exhausted from the constant stream of networking and chatter with other vampire hunters. He was a newly minted hunter and beamed with pride to tell anyone about it. He was certain this stranger wouldn’t be scandalised but when he held out his hand, they just stared at it.

“Ilya Rozanov,” he introduced himself, then flashed Shane a wicked smile, “vampire.”

Shane hunts feral vampires. Ilya is a vampire, but Shane's not interested in hunting him - no, he wants something far more dangerous. When the lines of their rivalry start to blur, they find themselves entangled in an age old conflict that will have far-reaching consequences.

Bridgeford is a small, quiet town. Too dull to hold someone like Ilya, a restless young alpha always chasing something sharper, faster, louder. Too suffocating for Shane, an omega who’s spent too long under watchful eyes, tired of being seen as a social case just because he's an omega.

One last summer. That's all they both have to live through before they're both off to the big city. That was the plan.

Until fate pulls a few strings, and suddenly, two complete strangers feel drawn to each other in all the wrong ways.

When a poorly timed phone call and an open window leads Shane's parents to a massive misunderstanding, he's stuck pretending he's still dating Rose. Which works fine for a month, until Ilya's jealousy starts to flare and Shane's parents witness a fight entirely different from the one they have on the ice.

"See? Shane's probably just in the kitchen,” Yuna murmured softly, putting her purse down on the side table beside the door. “Maybe he’s—”

“Okay, you were maybe telling me the truth,” a voice suddenly called, cutting her off before she could finish her sentence. “At least partially.”

Yuna frowned, the deep, accented voice catching her off guard. Before she could piece together where she recognized the voice from, though, she saw Ilya Rozanov walking through her son’s apartment. He was barefoot, his hair slightly damp and his clothes casual. Sweatpants and a white T-shirt that clung to him after a shower.

From the kitchen, David heard his sons’ voice ring out, too. “What do you mean partially?” Shane responded, gesturing at his phone as Ilya showed him something on it. “That’s exactly what I told you.”

  10. Ilya hadn’t known the video existed. If he had known, he would have paid someone to have it destroyed. Would have paid someone to murder Kuznetsov, maybe, just for redundancy's sake. But it was peak stupidity, to keep evidence of your homosexual perversion around in a country where that crime could get you sent to jail for several decades, and Ilya hadn’t thought that Kuznetsov would be that dumb.

Now here Ilya was, watching a video of his fourteen-year-old self on Twitter getting fucked by his former hockey coach.

So. There go the plans for the rest of his life.

  14. Ilya starts calling Shane boring regularly after that, not cruelly but persistently, the way you press a bruise you know is there just to confirm it still hurts. Shane's cereal is boring, Shane's training schedule is boring, Shane's shoes lined up by the door are boring, and Shane responds with variations of "fuck off" and "you're an asshole" that become increasingly creative and occasionally surprising. They do not talk about anything that matters. They talk about groceries and whose turn it is to take out the trash and whether Ilya's music is too loud at midnight, which it is. On the ice, Shane is someone else entirely. Ilya watches him from the upper stands every morning with vending machine coffee going cold in his hand and doesn't tell anyone. Or: Shane asked Ilya once how you know when it's the right person. Ilya described Shane to him, and Shane didn't recognise himself.

  15. “Where are you going?”

“To the arena, Hollander. We are playing a game in three hours.”

“That’s tomorrow, Rozanov,” Hollander says, smirking like Ilya might be fucking with him and he wants to make sure he’s in on the joke. He looks behind and around him. “Um, can I come inside?”

“Hollander, we have game today. You were here yesterday.”

Hollander is striding toward his kitchen, looking over his shoulder at Ilya like he’s getting tired of the joke. “Very funny. I was in Montreal yesterday, Rozanov.”

“Hollander.” Ilya goes to stand in front of him. Hollander’s eyes flicker up and down his body the way that Ilya usually craves, but is rather unwelcome right now. “Today is Thursday. Game is today. Yesterday, you came to my house. We ate tuna melts, watched Buffalo game. Then, you left.”

“Rozanov, it’s Wednesday morning. And I’ve never been to your house before.”

    “Hollander…”

“Look at your phone if you don’t believe me.”

Ilya snorts like a bull and pulls his phone out of his pocket, swipes down on the screen to look at the date.

    Wednesday, November 9th.

But even though he had been bracing himself for years, Ilya hadn’t been ready for when it all blew up in his face.

  18. It happens six months after their wedding.

Scott has never been happier in his entire life. Things were amazing for a little while there, so picture-perfect in all areas of his life that it felt almost too good to be true. Too easy. Ilya is not pretty. This is a fact.

Hollander calls him Lily, but that doesn't mean anything.

He does not think about either of those things, and he does not want anything, until he does.
