  1. Ilya clenches his fists, jaw tensing and loosening around the words he wishes he could say. His brain is far too jumbled for basic English right now, let alone the words to explain just how much he needs to bury himself in the arms of the one person who understands. He can deal with the fallout tomorrow. He just needs…

    A soft place to land.

LeClaire doubles down, shifting his stance to block Ilya’s path. “Your personal life is your own, Rozanov, but right now, your personal life is under a microscope. It’s not right, or fair, but think about that before you do something that lands you in even hotter water.”

“You mean the team,” Ilya grits.

“No.” His coach’s face softens. “No, that’s not important. I’ve known you for nearly a decade, Ilya. Take the bench for once. We’ll take care of you.”

But who will take care of Shane?

    -

OR: Ilya gets outed, Shane comes up with a solution to keep him safe, and neither of them are happy.

“I’m not sure of the exact reasons Montreal has, but the League needs a distraction from the bad press.” Laurenti’s face twists with disapproval. “Crowell’s known to be friendly with the Morin family, they own the Metros. Crowell must have asked for a favor and who knows what he’s promised them in return. Who better to distract from a scandal than Canada’s favorite son?”

The realization hits Ilya like a punch to the solar plexus.

“They’re trading Shane fucking Hollander?” Reilly questions with utter disbelief. It takes a half second more before he follows the question with another. “We’re signing him?”

    -

News that Dallas Kent, up and coming star center for the Toronto Guardians, is wanted for murder breaks during the Sochi Olympics.

Neither Shane nor Ilya have any idea that it will change their lives.

In late October, Ilya picks up some kind of freakish Canadian flu that dogs him into November.

It is the weirdest shit. He has to duck out of practice because his nose starts bleeding twice in one week and he wakes up in a hotel in Columbus with another one that leaves stains on the pillow. On the flight back to Ottawa, Hazy drops into the seat next to Ilya midflight and asks, "This isn't, like, a cocaine thing, right?"

Ilya laughs so hard it's probably a little rude.

They have a plan. Ilya's body has a different plan.

  4. Shane Hollander runs from Ilya’s penthouse like he’s escaping a crime scene. Ten days later, he’s dating Rose Landry. Shortly after that, a gay scandal in the NBL ends a man’s career overnight.

Ilya takes the hint. Being Ilya Rozanov, he takes it personally.

  5. It was a Friday when the video dropped.

“What is happening?” He asked St Simon, who was holding his phone tight to his chest, his expression odd. “Someone has died?”

Across the room he could see Marlow moving slowly upright from where he had been doing floor stretches, his phone in his hand as well, his face pinched.

    “It’s Hollander,” St Simon said.

The bottom of Ilya’s stomach fell out, closely followed by the rest of Ilya’s organs. His chest hurt so acutely that he thought he must be having a heart attack.

“Not dead,” St Simon added quickly, reaching out to grab Ilya’s shoulder when Ilya’s knees actually buckled. “Jesus, sorry. I should have - no it’s just -”

“Someone tell me what the fuck is going on,” Ilya snapped, “and everyone else shut up.”

Marlow reached him now, held his phone out to Ilya, open already to an article with a headline huge enough Ilya could easily make out the HOLLANDER blaring out of it even before his eyes focused and he took the phone from Marlow.

A video is posted online, for Shane it feels like a death sentence. For some parts of him, it is.

  6. Shane didn’t know but Ilya liked to observe the iridescent stains it left on his skin in the mirror of the bathroom, his fingertips caressing his skin gently, slowly.

He liked the view of his body splattered in glitters, knowing it was Shane’s come—his claim.

Shane tries to get his boyfriend drunk to know his species and gets more than what he bargained for.

And Ilya realises that his boyfriend’s come is 1) glittery 2) an aphrodisiac 3) smells and tastes like fruity juice.

Or, alternatively : none of them is human, but they sure can get drunk.

  7. Shane Hollander enters his rookie season focused on one thing only: playing the best damn hockey he can, and earning a spot in history as one of the greatest players in the league. Standing between him and his goal is Boston’s own promising young rookie, Alexei Rozanov.

Shane doesn’t particularly care about having a rival, but Rozanov seems as good a choice as any. He’s rude, arrogant, obnoxious off the ice and frustrating on it. And he’s pretty damn good at hockey.

Unfortunately, he also has a younger brother, who Shane finds much more interesting.

The Hollander-Rozanov rivalry is alive and well. And caught in the middle of it, is Ilya.

    “What the fuck is this?”

“Ahhh, is where I can see all my ratings and reviews from rides I’ve given,” Ilya said, winked, “rides on my dick.”

    Shane blinked at him. “What.”

“Is silly app,” Ilya said, turned the phone back to himself, and then clicked into Svetlana’s latest review - just the preview of it in which it showed she’d given him five stars and a tip, as well as leaving a photo - and then turned the phone back to Shane. “My friend made for me as silly present. Sometimes I share with people I fuck, and they rate me. Is funny.”

This is a silly fic that takes itself seriously. Ilya has a app to rate him in bed, and Shane is mad, horny, and also going to fill out his ride reviews every single time with dedication and focus.

  9. Shane Hollander begins his NHL career unchallenged when Ilya Rozanov enters the KHL after World Juniors. One season of being allowed to terrorize the ice and the Winner’s Room is enough for Boston to drag Ilya out of Russia.

What they had not accounted for in releasing a second generational talent into the league was that not all predators are solitary. Ilya may want to bring Hollander to his knees, but he wants to present the defeat of an inferior player to his feet first.

He just has to convince Hollander to let him.

  11. There’s still a big part of him that wants all the same things he used to. The hockey, those other interests, the simplicity of the smaller circle. But there’s a twinge of something else now beside it when he considers it for too long, a bruise he can’t place the origins of. He’d been able to put somewhat of a name to it, after Rose.

He only wishes he hadn’t filled in the rest of the blanks staring down at a grainy photograph of Svetlana Vetrova in a convenience store parking lot in Boston, a bag hanging off of her manicured finger just transparent enough to make out the logo of a First Response as she’d ducked into a sleek, black sports car, driving away with Shane's best worst would-have-been and, presumably, Ilya Rozanov's baby.

Shane feels no particular way about this turn of events. He really, honestly, mostly is somewhat close to believing that, too. It's progress.

  12. He'd made it halfway through writing the first note before it felt suddenly far too pathetic. Was this seriously the legacy he wanted to leave behind? No one would talk about any of his wins if he killed himself now. He would be the failed Russian team captain of the 2014 Olympics who couldn't handle the job and offed himself about it. His father would probably follow him in death just to yell at him for embarrassing the family, and Russia, and everyone who had ever rooted for him.

And when he had been made captain in Boston, he had promised his Bears he would get them a cup. He couldn't just leave without doing that. Didn't want to leave and let people think he was a liar, or that he just gave up when things got hard, lazy, useless, stupid boy.

He tore up the note he'd begun, and began his second plan instead.

  13. TMZ and half of the tabloids are certain it’s only a matter of time before Ilya Rozanov gets too drunk and drops a good old-fashioned salacious cheating scandal right into their hands.
Fortunately for TMZ, Ilya Rozanov does get too drunk. Unfortunately for TMZ, what follows is exactly the opposite of what they were hoping for.
    -----
Ilya is sitting opposite Marleau, right at the center of a crowded mass of Raider's players. His phone buzzes and he looks down with a grin. Ilya taps open the message then bites his lip, eyes bright.

A cheer goes up from all sides, feet stamping against the floorboards.

“What?” Ilya looks up and glares about him. “Fuck off. You are all much more ugly than Hollander. Do not be acting like this.”

Hammersmith grins. “What you looking at us like that for, hey Rozy?”

“Yeah, c’mon man. Had to be done, right?” says Connors.

    Ilya raises his eyebrows.

Marleau leans forward and grins. He gestures at Rozy’s phone. “Little game to see how long before we caught you fucking gazing at your phone with your fucking Montreal girl fucking face, Rozy. Gotta appreciate it again, brother. Now we really know what we’re looking at, yeah?”

  14. Ilya is the youngest-ever captain of the Boston Raiders at 22 years old, and is pretty sure he is straight. Shane was injured before he could go pro, and became a dancer instead. Now, he’s out, and the most in-demand male pole dancer in Montreal. Then, on a random Friday night, Ilya and the Raiders walk into his club. And now Ilya can’t stop thinking about him. OR - What if Shane was Ilya’s bi awakening, and it began at a club where Shane was performing? And what happens when this Shane Hollander meets this Ilya Rozanov? (Don’t worry, Shane still plays hockey for fun in this, because I’ll be damned if Shane isn’t still a bitchy jock who is really good at hockey in my AU.)

  15. Now, for the first time in years, he found himself praying. Not caring who listened. Not caring if anyone listened.
    Take anything.
    Take the game.
    Take my career.
    Take whatever you want.

    Just let him wake up.
    Because Shane couldn't be gone.

  16. The Centaurs Rookies ask about Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov's coming out plans, only to find out that said plans are very, very bad.

Upon pointing out the flaws in the plans, Shane and Ilya get defensive; insisting that they don't need help from "a bunch of stupid boys".

Taking this personally, the Rookies then come up with a plan to fix their coming out plans by exposing them to the reality of what the internet is saying about them.

  17. In a world where Shane & Ilya never hooked up and were only ever rivals and colleagues, Shane does eventually come out (after Scott and Kip’s kiss that changed everything.) He keeps the media at bay by teasing what he’s looking for in an ideal boyfriend.

    Ilya starts taking notes.

  18. “Hello? What is going on? Did you mean to call me?” Ilya asked nervously, glancing around at his team to make sure they weren’t focused on him, confirming that most of them were either undressing and checking their own phones or teasing St. Simone about the new tattoo he had gotten the other day.

“I—I think—” Shane stuttered, and Ilya frowned when he heard another scream from Shane’s end of the line that didn’t sound like a gleeful hockey celebration. Was there something beeping loudly, too?

“I think the plane is crashing.”

And Ilya’s world came crumbling down.

    -

After the tuna melt incident, Shane calls Ilya from a plane that is going down.

Svetlana knows Ilya, him deciding to come to the NHL, means he wants out of Russia even if it isn’t right away and forces him to apply for a green card.

  20. Boston is vicious tonight, answered in full by Montreal, with both teams acting as if it's a playoffs game instead of a March regulation game.

He has no idea what Ilya's said to them, has no idea why they're all so motivated, but he can't stop himself from feeling deeply fucking pleased at the thought of such good hockey being played for a chance to fuck him.

He knows that Ilya can spot the bright flush of greed, the hunger painted in the curl of his lips as they fight for the puck. The damp, wet pant of his mouth only reminds him of other, equally as pleasurable places he's heard it, despite his best efforts, and by the time the third ends, he's fighting to breathe through his arousal, his whole body aching from the game.

OR: It's the last regulation game of the season before Ilya moves to Ottawa. Shane doesn't want the Bears to worry, but he doesn't mind the chance to prove it—he'll take care of Ilya perfectly. After all, he can take care of all of them, can't he?
