  1. When Shane starts the document, it makes sense to him.

Later on, when it’s published onto a hundred different gossip sites with hundreds of comments dissecting every word, it looks insane.

It starts because Shane has no one to talk to about everything. He’s never even kept a journal. He balks at the thought of getting a therapist. It’s not like he’s going to risk writing it down physically for someone to find. The only logical way that Shane can think of to deal with his feelings is to open up a blank Google Docs page and start writing.

or Shane decides to write down all his feelings instead of talking to Ilya. After years of writing about their relationship, the entire document gets leaked online.

  2. There’s a sign in front of Shane. It says Welcome to Scott Hunter and Kip Grady’s Happily Ever After in a cursive font that makes Shane think of Etsy. Shane’s stomach churns. He briefly squeezes his empty ring finger. He feels, all at once, like he might cry. Instead, he swallows, and breathes, and pastes a smile on his face, and marches his ass down to Scott and Kip’s fucking wedding of the century.

  3. Yuna stared at the phone in her hand while David went out in search of coffee. She got the number from Shane’s phone after learning the name from Hayden (This girl he’s been texting with for a long time, years, uhm she might be his sort-of-girlfriend?). She was simply listed in Shane’s contacts under “Lily”, no last name. She didn’t check their chat history because she valued her relationship with Shane, but it was a close call.

Ilya Rozanov is the unbreakable Captain of the Ottawa Centaurs. Now, he is also the sole survivor of a tragedy that the NHL would rather treat as a PR nightmare than a massacre. With a shattered body and a ghost team, Ilya finds himself at the center of a corporate conspiracy fueled by blood money.

But he isn't alone. Shane Hollander has always been his greatest rival. Now, he’s his only anchor. Because sometimes, the only way out is through.

She hauls him back to his place – a gorgeous condo that overlooks Montreal and is 70% glass. All the reflecting, soft light makes her dress look like liquid silver. She lets it drop onto the stairs behind her.

    As she turns—

She sees his reflection. She sees the face she knows she was never, ever meant to see. His heart isn’t in this. But then he’s glancing up at her, some stranger to a smile on his face, and she knows something she was never, ever meant to know: he will make himself go through with this. He’s going to come up the stairs—he’s already coming up the stairs.

    Fuck. She misread this entirely.

  6. NHL golden boy Shane Hollander has spent his entire life being perfect — the ideal captain, the flawless teammate, the face of the franchise. He’s also spent his entire life hiding. When a chance encounter in a New York club leads him to Ilya Rozanov, Shane discovers what it means to finally let go. The problem? Ilya isn’t just confident, wealthy, and dangerously attractive. He’s also the heir to the Russian Bratva’s North American empire. What starts as one reckless weekend becomes something neither of them expected: real, consuming, and worth protecting at any cost — even when that cost includes bodies, lies, and a secret that could destroy everything Shane has built. Twenty-five years, three Stanley Cups, countless threats, and one question: how far will you go for the person who makes you feel like yourself?

  8. Shane Hollander is tired of wanting someone he cannot have, and he’s dying as he waits for someone who will not stay. Someone who doesn’t want to stay, not when there are so many others waiting for him. Fun of another variety, Shane left a treat amongst many.

It’s humiliating. It’s distracting. And it feels like shit.

He wishes he could erase his feelings, move on as easily. In an effort to gain back control over the ‘situation’ that has become his romantic attraction to a notorious player, Shane attempts at imitating Ilya Rozanov’s methods until he perfects them and becomes as good as keeping it light and casual as his rival.

Or Shane tries to Hoe Phase himself into a self discovery journey to choke and kill his feelings for Ilya Rozanov. Ilya is not the only who suffers from it, but he sure feels like he’s being choked and killed.

  9. More hands, then Hayden's voice. "Oh shit. I've got you, man. Meg—what—" The walls tilted, or maybe Shane did. He couldn't feel his feet. "Fuck. Okay , okay, we're going down, Meg, grab his other arm—" Then, voice raised, "JJ!" Shane lost some time. Or, Shane learns about a family emergency during a game in Ottawa and shuts down. Ilya is there to help. Shane swiped the towel quickly over his visor and squeezed a quick shot of cold water into his mouth. Everything hurt, in the way that everything always hurt in games toward the end of the season. He just had to get through this last period and hold on to their lead, then he could go shower and refuel with a few thousand calories and bleed off the adrenaline by sleeping 10 hours in Ilya's arms. Sitting on the bench, intentionally bringing his breathing back under control, Shane worked at a painful muscle knot beside his knee. He'd have to see a trainer about that one soon. "Hollander." Shane was automatically on his skates and halfway to jumping the boards when he realized he wasn't being sent in. Theriault made eye contact, face neutral, and jerked his head behind the bench. Shane paused, confused, and turned. Hayden, sitting beside him, frowned. One of the Metros' communications staff hovered just inside the tunnel. Shane registered an unusual look on her face. "Shane?" Hayden questioned. "I don't know." Coach jerked his head again toward the tunnel, so Shane took a quick glance back at the ice—at the blur that was Ilya—and headed toward the tunnel. A spike of anxiety at the change in protocol made his stomach roll. "Meg? What's wrong?" "Shane. Sorry to pull you away. Don't worry—it's okay." Shane thought that that's what you say to people when there's a reason to panic. "Okay." He knew his voice was flat in the way that made other people uncomfortable, sometimes. He didn't know what else to sound like, with a thick curl of panic crawling up his throat. "Your mom called a few minutes ago. Your dad was having some chest pains, so they went to the ER. They're at Montreal General." Shane blinked at her. "My dad?" His ears were ringing. "Yeah," she said, gently. "I'm sure they've arrived by now. I told her we'd pull you for the rest of the third period so that you can keep up to date." "Okay." He heard Hayden's voice behind him, questioning. Couldn't make out the words. "I'm gonna throw up," Shane said faintly. "Oh, crap—" A scramble. Gentle hands guided him a few more steps away from the rink, then there was a trash can in front of him. Someone pried his hockey stick out of his hands. Shane's diaphragm heaved, expelling mostly water and electrolytes and the remains of his pregame protein bar. More hands, then Hayden's voice. "Oh shit. I've got you, man. Meg—what—" Talking. Shane spat drool and acid, and tried to inhale. His throat clenched. The breath burned and wheezed like he was trying to suck in air through a straw. Someone pulled off Shane's helmet. He heaved again. Spat. Couldn't drag in enough oxygen. His breath sounded like that kid from middle school who carried an inhaler during gym class, wheezy and painful. The walls tilted, or maybe Shane did. He couldn't feel his feet. "Fuck. Okay, okay, we're going down, Meg, grab his other arm—" Then, voice raised, "JJ!" Shane lost some time. ----- Blink. Someone had taken off his skates, pulled off his jersey, unstrapped his pads. He was leaning against the wall, Hayden and JJ kneeling in front of him, pale. Meg hovered anxiously behind Hayden, phone to her ear. "Shane, your dad—" No. Shane couldn't listen to that. Reflexively, his neck jerked, pulling away from whatever Hayden was saying, cracking painfully into the wall. The pain bloomed at the back of his skull, whiting out any thoughts that bubbled up to the surface. That helped, so he did it again. "No! No, Shane, hey, stop that, stopstopstop—" More time passed. ----- Blink. The scene had changed. He was in a trainer's room, now. Still on the floor, listing a little to one side, knees bent. His face was wet. He reached up a heavy hand, touched his cheekbone, looked at his damp fingers. Tears, not blood. People were talking. "I don't fucking know, Roz! He's just not fucking here right now. I'm trying to tell him—no, I'm not touching him, you think I don't fucking know my best friend—" "Hayd." Shane's voice sounded weird. Hayden stopped pacing and dropped into a crouch in front of him, phone to his ear. Nobody else was in the room.

  11. It’s perhaps the sweetest Svetlana has ever known Ilyusha to be. She has always been granted access to the more affectionate side of Ilyusha, the one that he rarely shows to anyone else, but it was never anything compared to this. This tenderness, this adoration, that he gives so freely to Shane. It’s like her best friend is a completely different person right now, and she starts to wonder if maybe she was wrong earlier. Maybe, instead of being too boring for Ilyusha, perhaps Shane Hollander is giving him the space to become something soft. Something without walls, or masks, or armour. 14. When a human head of state publicly insults the ancient Vampire King, the price of peace is a political union. Shane Hollander, high school teacher and assistant hockey coach, is one of the only humans in the world with a rare bloodline. He’s given an impossible choice: become a Tribute Consort to vampire Crown Prince Ilya, or watch the human race burn.

Their union is meant to be a symbolic gesture to prevent war. Shane tells himself he can survive the vampire court's deadly politics, the centuries-old intrigue, and the weight of being a living apology for his species' mistakes.

What he doesn't expect is the way Ilya looks at him when no one else is watching.

When a secret society abducts Shane to drain and auction his rare blood to the highest bidder, the carefully constructed facade shatters. The vampire Crown Prince the world fears isn't cold at all, he's been holding something far more dangerous in check. And what Ilya is willing to destroy to reclaim his Consort will reshape the balance of power between their worlds.

  16. Yuna Hollander… got his number from Hayden Pike? Two people he has rarely if ever spoken to, yet who are undeniably important to Shane. Two people who have absolutely no reason to have his phone number.

His eyes scan back up and snag on that name. Lily.

She thinks she’s talking to Lily.

Ilya’s hands move before his brain. He doesn’t bother to worry about where she could’ve heard the name from, not when he knows Shane never talks to anyone about what they do. No one should know about Lily, but Mrs. Hollander somehow does. She is offering him some kind of information, and he doesn’t care what he has to do to get it—pretending to be Shane’s Boston hookup is nothing.

  18. The straps of Shane’s hockey bag dug into his shoulders as he stood by the welcome table and hoped that this year, it would be easier. It was reasonable, in his second year at camp, to expect that he wouldn’t be so caught up in everything that wasn't hockey, what to eat and where to go and who to talk to. Maybe this year, because he knew how everything would work, the routines and the expectations, he could actually make some friends.

Shane hugged his parents goodbye and assured them that he would be fine, just like he was last year—he hadn’t been fine, he’d been miserable, but there’d been hockey so it had been worth it—and then watched them drive away with only the smallest pit of fear in his stomach. He was hopeful. He was optimistic.

And then Shane locked eyes with Ilya, and something in that look told him that he was wrong, that he shouldn’t be sure of anything, that this person was going to divide his life into two pieces and he was helpless to stop it.
