David, standing nearby, looks down for a moment before composing himself. Shane doesn't stop. "This is the day you came home," he tells her. "The first day of the rest of our lives kiddo." His fingers are careful as he buttons the cardigan, adjusting it so it sits just right. "I think he'd like to see this,” he adds softly. Or, Shane and Ilya sleep together the day they meet in December 2008. Shane ends up pregnant. Ilya has no idea, it’s only when their daughter is diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that Shane realises he has no choice but the break the silence between them.

It starts as an accident.
Shane’s focused, eyes locked on the ice. He isn’t thinking about anything else, let alone his response when an inevitable chirp comes. He doesn’t understand he's done anything different until later in the locker room. Ilya can’t stop talking about some chirp and Shane is only half listening until he hears his name.
“What?” He looks up with a frown. “I didn’t chirp anyone.”
“Shane, lyubimii, love of my life.” Ilya steps forward to press a smacking kiss to Shane’s forehead. “You error-screened Benoit!”
So it starts by accident, but it doesn’t take Shane very long to lean into it. He loves Ilya. The entire League knows they’re married, and it isn’t that hard to believe that a married couple would be having sex.

Shane isn’t answering the door. Ilya assumes that’s because he hasn’t heard the knock on the door. Music is playing through the open door between the bedroom and the hallway. Ilya knows that Shane doesn’t really know music and definitely isn’t particular about it, which means he’s doing this for Ilya.
Ilya wills his feet to move. After a few seconds they do. They feel heavy, like there are weights tied to them, but they bring Ilya to the front door, so he’s not complaining. He opens the door slowly and tries smiling at the man, presumably David Hollander, in front of him.
“Hello,” presumably David Hollander says in a low voice. “I’m looking for Shane.”
In a retelling of 'David finds Shane and Ilya in episode 6,' David arrives a couple of minutes later and as a result doesn't see Shane and Ilya making out. Shane and Ilya get to discuss coming out to Shane's parents on their own terms.

He watched a blush creep under Hollander’s freckles and thought about kissing them. He nearly broke eye contact just from that. He needed to stay focused.
“I’ve just been busy!” Hollander defended himself. He took a step back from Ilya. Ilya took a step forward. He stared at Hollander, making the doubt on his face clear.
Hollander’s whole body was fidgeting. Ilya loved how nervous he was making him. He could tell Hollander was close to breaking.
“Admit it. You are baby.”
“I’m not!”
“Then prove it,” Ilya growled, walking forward until Hollander’s back was up against the wall.
