Shane loves him. This is all he can really think about, now, with Ilya’s knuckles caressing his skin and his eyes raking all over his features; he loves him, and he knows Ilya loves him, too, and he cannot believe he ever doubted that either of them knows this about the other, cannot fathom needing any kind of arbitrary showcase of this love to know that it’s real. He loves Ilya, and if he wants to show him off or keep him locked in this apartment forever and only let him feed from the palm of his hand, then he can do as he sees fit, as long as he keeps loving Shane like this, as much as Shane loves him.
“It was you,” Shane whispers. “They were talking about you.”
Ilya’s knuckles pause, and Shane squeezes his wrist, a non-verbal whine. “What about me?”
“Doesn’t matter what. Anything, anything about you,” Shane’s head is shaking, and Ilya starts soothing again, burying his fingers into his hair and keeping his palm there, covering his ear, and Shane clings onto his wrist. “Could’ve been fucking anything, but… They had something to say about you, and I couldn’t– I snapped.”
or, shane worries he's not showing ilya off as much as he should, and it becomes another problem

Shane’s ex-girlfriends keep coming out as queer. He’s trying to be supportive, he really is, okay? Listen, he’s an ally! But it’s sort of becoming a problem. For pretty obvious reasons, because people are definitely starting to notice—Ilya most of all.
(AKA, I give Shane the most absurd queer community and convoluted coming-of-age journey of all time and it still somehow gradually makes things better in the long run.)

Ilya Rozanov has a gift.
He can speak to animals, which has earned him an incredibly successful career as a pet psychic, and far too much information about what people do when they think their pets aren’t watching.
Shane Hollander has a problem.
His cat, Pork, is permanently miserable. After exhausting every sensible option, Shane turns to the supernatural for assistance.
After their first appointment, Pork grows visibly happier - his cat’s found a hobby and renewed sense of purpose for achieving his only goal: to destroy Ilya for good.

If Nikolai Medvedev thought of Moscow, he thought of the street corner where he had kissed his husband for the first time, and the lecture theatre where they had met, and the coffee shop where they hadn’t dared to hold hands but had, surreptitiously, pressed their feet together under the table. If Nikolai thought of Moscow, sometimes he thought of his sister, but in the distant way that felt like thinking of a stranger. He hadn’t heard from her in decades - she’d be grown now, and her kids would be grown now. He hoped she was happy and resolved to think no more of her. Then, Ilya Rozanov announces the Irina Foundation.

When Shane was outed after a hook-up in Mexico gone public, Montréal dropped him, traded to Ottawa like he was not the captain who had begun a Voyageurs dynasty. And Shane didn’t believe in using arcane powers to get an unfair advantage in hockey (that was cheating and he had a very stringent moral code) but he did believe in karma. Good thing that Ilya Rozanov, Etsy Witch (four-point-seven stars rated) also believes in karma, and believes in discounts for cute hockey players scorned.

Moving to Blüdhaven had been the chance for Shane Hollander to get his fresh start: he was out of Gotham and New York, and all the pressure that the expectations of those places held for him; he had all the good that he could do, both with an identity formed under a new mask and his public persona; he had the opportunity to coach gymnastics again for the love of it; and he had Ilya Rozanov. But the thing with being a hero is that the past never rests, and Nightwing’s greatest nemesis has a grudge that Shane can’t shake.

HE ADOPTED HER AS A ROOKIE???@historybuff617
The adoption story is actually pretty well known around Boston. After he was drafted, Shane flew to Japan to visit his grandparents in Kyoto before reporting to the organization.
On the trip back, he stopped in Paris and met a young woman who was trying to escape an abusive husband.
He helped her get safely to Canada, connected her with organizations that support women fleeing domestic violence, and stayed in contact while she got back on her feet.
When she gave birth by the end of his first year as a professional baseball player, she made the incredibly difficult decision to place the baby for adoption.
Shane adopted her.
Her name is Sofia Yuna Hollander.

Shane woke up alone, in pain and confused. He remembered the hit; Marlow had sent him down to the ice. He remembered Ilya visiting before anyone else. He doesn't understand what is wrong; why are more tests being ordered? The C test. The test for being a rare Male Carrier.
He hadn't thought about Carriers since he was in school. Why would he? His mother had done the test when he was a child. It had been negative. So why was he hurting in places he shouldn't? Why was a nice nurse telling him they needed to take him somewhere else for some specialised testing?
When Shane Hollander took a nasty hit on the ice against Boston, he was woken up to a very serious, very shocking discovery. To something he hadn't believed was possible. He now has to deal with the fallout; decisions have to be made, as well as life-altering choices. But first he has to work out how to tell his years-long situationship - who he is completely and totally in love with - that he managed to get him pregnant, when neither of them was aware it was possible. Shane is terrified, confused and furious all at the same time. All he wants is Ilya, but is Ilya still going to want him now?

How About that Other Team? by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-08-01
Boston, while they usually draft players they know to be aggressive, see Shane Hollander, classically Canadian, composed, and calculating, and realize they have an opportunity. Not to reform their image necessarily, but to put out the narrative of a better influence. No one expects Shane Hollander to snarky, suave, and all together trouble for the league.
Montreal sees Ilya Rozanov for exactly what he is, brutal, talented, and masculine. He’s the leadership the Voyagers need, he’s tough on his teammates, on himself, and he doesn’t take shit from anybody. However, he’s too quiet off the ice, and it’s unsettling. He’s everything and nothing they thought he would be.
