And then, starting at his fingertips, Shane starts to fade away, just like St-Simon and Marlow and Pike moments before. Eyes soft, Shane gazes at Ilya, not seeming to realize what’s happening at all. And Ilya, overcome with terror, can only watch as Shane’s whole being simply disintegrates into thin air.

She answers truthfully, shrugs her shoulders in her tiny silver dress. “He hasn’t mentioned you at all.”
After a shitshow of an evening in a Montreal nightclub, Ilya wakes up the next morning in Shane’s bed. Only, he’s not in Shane’s bed — Rose Landry is, and he’s in Rose Landry’s body, and she’s in his. Well, what the fuck are they supposed to do with that?

He’s the leadership the Voyagers need, he’s tough on his teammates, on himself, and he doesn’t take shit from anybody. However, he’s too quiet off the ice, and it’s unsettling. He’s everything and nothing they thought he would be.

When his face had calmed down, chosen one expression - something bland and rigid - Shane spoke. “Um,” he said. “I. I’m not sure sure if. If that’s what you want, yes, we can, of course. I just don’t think that will. Having another. Woman. There. Would help my. Performance?”
She nodded, squeezed his hand. “I wasn’t thinking of another woman,” she said, interested to see if this would be more or less panic inducing for Shane. “I was thinking a guy. I know Miles would be interested.”
Rose begins her break up/you are gay talk with Shane, and Shane derails it in a last ditch attempt at proving to himself that he can be what he thinks he should be. They agree to give their relationship another go, and are ridiculous about it.

“Happy?” Shane asks and Ilya stares at him and then – laughs. A full-belly laugh, with a slightly hysterical edge to it. The sheer relief on Ilya’s face makes something in Shane’s chest come loose.
“Oh my God. Oh my God. This was – you kiss like twelve-year-olds!”
Rose snorts and presses her face into Shane’s shoulder, shaking with laughter, too. “You see the problem, yeah?”

Shane's injury is much more minor, so Ilya goes through with the breakup. Luckily, Rose is there to help him through it.
