“Is that what he does, then?” she asks, walking down the hallway to put the garment bag next to the one already there.
She turns back, and sees Shane looking at her with a furrowed brow. She thought that question was clear, but perhaps not. “Like, philanthropy?” Given what hot boyfriend wears, he’s got to be making some serious buck. Or he was born into wealth. “My friend James dated a Russian socialite for a couple of months, and she just went to art galleries and threw dinner parties,” Ana elaborates. “Her dad’s an oligarch who, like, defected from the motherland in the late nineties.”

“-moya rybka, I am sorry, sweet girl-” Ilya is saying, on his knees in the middle of their living room and patting the rug near him with what looks like devastation on his face as Anya continues to ignore him, curled up on Shane’s lap instead. Fresh off of several stacked events to fit them into a weekend–because Shane’s mom is nothing if not efficient when it comes to the deals she makes–Ilya got home only a few minutes ago, still in the outfit he’d left his Buzzfeed puppy interview in, which Anya had clearly not appreciated, sniffing him suspiciously after her initial excited greeting and then retreating to Shane immediately when he patted his thigh in welcome.
Shane is trying not to be obviously enjoying Ilya’s turmoil as much as he is, shifting Anya to lay on her back like a baby in one arm and cooing at her.
“I know, huh? Papa left and played with who knows how many other dogs, and the whole time you were here missing him. I bet he wasn’t even thinking about you, huh?”
“Hollander!” Ilya says, sounding scandalized. “Do not tell her that! Is not true!”

Shane Hollander's aggression problem by connorsseurs, justbeingzsozso
Heated Rivalry (TV)
2026-07-21
Ilya's face has got a little rosy tint to it, where the sun burned him. He complained about it to Shane, and demanded healing kisses which he got without complaint. There is some drool coming out of his mouth, landing on Shane's shirt, who is sure he would find it nasty if he didn't have this man's dick in his mouth on the regular. Ilya periodically lets out little noises, some hums and snorts, that amuses Shane greatly. God, he never wants to get up from this moment. He keeps on looking at his boyfriend, who is smiling in his sleep, making his cheeks go round, and Shane gets this unexplainable, sudden urge: I need to bite him. Or, 5 times Shane got cuteness agression watching Ilya, and one time he got it for someone else

“I am sorry,” he says. “I am not trying to fight. I just don’t like the idea of you not being okay and me not knowing, even when I am in the same place as you.”
That Shane can understand. He wouldn’t like it if their positions were reversed, after all, if he thought Ilya was potentially in danger and he was in the next room over drinking champagne and making smalltalk. He sees Ilya go somewhere in his head sometimes, sees him retreat inwards, sees him check out even if his body is still there, going so deep inside that he doesn’t even catch Shane’s eye for a bit even when something funny happens, too far away for Shane to reach him.
But it’s also not like he can just go up and grab Ilya by the arm and pull him away from the party, not without inviting speculation and a whisper storm. He doesn’t have that right, doesn’t have that privilege, to potentially need Ilya or be needed by Ilya and be able to just pull him away.
It’s moments like these that Shane feels the weight of their secret like a physical thing.

~And from your lips, he drew the Hallelujah
Ilya Rozanov leaves Boston and signs with Ottawa, trying to fight a slow slide into emptiness and find meaning in his life again. Shane Hollander is a lonely, struggling artist who lost his spark. When they meet by chance, they both have to decide what's worth living for.
Or…Shane never gets the chance to become a pro hockey player, so they meet later in life. Basically, they’re both sad boys, but the healing will be worth it (mostly soft fluff, very low angst). More baggage, fewer hangups.
~You see I used to live alone before I knew ya.
——————————————————
“So maybe we would have played together,” Ilya said.
“Yeah. Maybe we would have been rivals,” Shane said, and that got a grin out of him. He couldn’t quite imagine it, but he thought that would have been fun, facing off against Ilya Rozanov. In another life.
Ilya nodded slowly. “And yet here we are, meeting anyway. Maybe we were meant to.”

“You are planning to rob me or what?” He hears Rozanov call, and he can’t help but smile slightly even as he rolls his eyes, closing the door to the linen closet and feeling strangely lighter than when he opened it, reassured that he’s just trying to read into a blank page, that today doesn’t mean anything more than Rozanov doesn’t mind him being around, which is strangely flattering.
“I don’t know,” he calls back. “Don’t Russians like diamonds and fur and stuff? Where should I start looking if I want to know what my options are?”
He hears Rozanov laugh, and it makes him smile.
When he joins him in the living room once more, Rozanov tugs him down to lean against him again. Shane goes easier this time, settling into it, knowing it doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that he just happens to be the closest warm body, the person on Rozanov’s roster who filled today’s slot.

“Hi,” Ilya says, his attempt at making his voice a purr lost to how fucking happy he is, to have this, to see Shane Hollander in a way no one else ever gets to. He crosses the room and kneels over him, pulling him up into a kiss that Shane gives him easily, making a sweet, soft noise that makes Ilya want to bite him with how cute it is. Instead, he gets a handful of the edge of the soft, fuzzy blanket to whip it off of Shane and replace it with his own body-
-only to be stopped when the blanket turns out to be far, far fucking heavier than he anticipated, pulling him up short when his attempt at a flick ends with barely moving the edge before it flops back down with audible weight.

At a bar in Montreal, Shane is having a drink with Hayden after the rest of the team have left, and two guys approach them, trying to start a fight, calling Shane a slur. Hayden tries to be a good friend, but it's not what Shane needs. OR Shane has a panic attack and Ilya drives two and a half hours in the middle of the night to be with him “Don't stay out too late,” J.J. grinned, patting Hayden's shoulder, then Shane's. “We won't, it's way past Shane's bedtime,” Hayden nodded, earning himself a glare from Shane. Shane watched J.J. leave the bar, then turned to Hayden. Though he'd had a nice time out with the team, he couldn't help but notice himself visibly relax. Yes, everyone on the team knew he was gay now, and some of the them had even pointed out a guy in the bar here and there to ask if Shane may be interested, but, with just Hayden, who knew Shane had no interest in anyone but his boyfriend, it was different. “All those guys could have potential, you know,” Hayden grinned. “You might want to consider it.” Shane rolled his eyes. “Come on, stop.” Hayden sighed. “You know I'm joking,” he said, taking a sip from his beer. “But, you know, I also wouldn't be mad if-” The way Shane glared at him again stopped him. “He's good with kids, I'll give him that.” Shane looked around, then lowered his voice when he spoke. “I don't know how I'd ever tell the others,” he sighed. “I mean, I know they'll find out at some point, but...” “It's fine you're not ready. You told them you were gay, that was a big deal.” Shane nodded slowly. “I know,” he said quietly. “I just wish they'd stop trying to find me a guy. They always do that.” “I think they'd try even harder if they knew.” Shane looked at his hands, both wrapped around his glass. He didn't like it, but he knew Hayden was right. “At least they support you. Can't blame them for trying to find someone for you.” “I guess.” He knew he should have got used to people knowing about him by now, but even though he'd told his team mates himself, he still found it strange that now, more and more people talked about it every day. It wasn't like he was the only gay hockey player that was out, thanks to Scott Hunter, and yet, it felt different. He could imagine Scott Hunter put pressure on himself too, but he seemed to be more sure of himself, more confident in who he was. Shane was still working on that. Scott Hunter also wasn't keeping his relationship a secret. “Hey, man, are you okay?” Shane lifted his gaze to Hayden again. But before he could respond, he heard his name, his attention drawn to two men sitting at the bar. “Yeah, that's him.” Shane tensed when he locked eyes with the man that had said his name. They didn't look like they were about to ask him to sign something. “Can't believe he's still fucking playing.” Hayden had noticed too, sitting up straighter as he watched them. “You guys got a problem with my friend?” he asked, calm, but ready to stand up for Shane. “Hayden,” Shane warned. “Yeah, I've got a problem with your friend,” one of the men huffed, sliding from the bar stool and approaching their table. Shane swallowed, his heart beating faster. The other man followed closely behind. “We used to like you, you know,” he said, now directly addressing Shane. “But now we know you're a little f-” “Shut up,” Hayden snapped. Shane's pulse slammed into his throat, too loud, too fast. He didn't want to fight anyone in a bar, he didn't want Hayden to fight anyone in a bar because of him, but he also felt like his heart was beating so fast that it may jump out of his chest. “What? You gay too, Pike?” one of them laughed. Shane had read tweets and articles, even though Ilya always tried to distract him when he started scrolling and reading hate, he'd been booed at games, and he'd heard comments made about him, but it had never been like this before. It was one of the reasons he'd thought about never coming out. One of the men was close to Hayden now, towering over him, and Shane's hands clenched into fists, but he still couldn't move. He wondered if he was having a heart attack. The words blurred. The bar blurred. Voices, shuffling, chairs scraping. His heart was so fast and he couldn't focus on anything else. He gasped for air, but there wasn't enough. “Shane?” He tried to inhale again, but couldn't get enough air past the tightness in his chest. “Shane?” Hayden's face came into focus in front of him, just for a moment, then his vision blurred again. “I can't breathe.”

Shane is minding his business in the kitchen making his smoothie when he starts hearing country music coming from their room upstairs. Eventually Ilya's deep voice could be heard singing along to the chorus as he walks down the stairs to where he's standing. That's when the lyrics register. "Everything was too much. Every number was too high. He didn’t necessarily want to change anything about his reflection. He had a healthy body, a good body--He was healthier than most of the population as a pro-athlete, and he took care of himself. But he did want to make sure his body stayed that way while he was resting. Limiting his intake made this possible, and he smiled a little when he saw the number on the scale go down, little by little every day, sickeningly proud of himself." -or- Shane Hollander is forced to rest. It's the morning after Shane and Ilya confessed their love to one another. The cottage is calm, warm and slow in the morning, and they both feel lighter. This is their forever now. They have every intent to steep in it, soak in doing even the smallest tasks together. or Shane and Ilya are disgustingly in love and at complete ease. It's a full morning in the bubble they have spent years earning. There was a stillness in the cottage in the morning after Shane and Ilya said ‘I love you’ for the first time. It was impossible for the sun to miss any part of the house. It was lit entirely in the early morning light, the sun not fully risen. It painted every surface a warm orange and melted the blue sheets of Shane and Ilya’s bed into a deep brown color as the two slept. Ilya had fallen asleep on Shane’s chest, having slotted himself between Shane’s legs and pressing his chest to Shane’s stomach. Shane’s hand was tangled in Ilya’s curls, having fallen asleep while playing with them, and breaths escaped his lips as he slept deeply. Ilya stirred first, as he had fallen asleep first, and he quickly took in the state they were in. The sun had woken him. He still wasn’t acclimated to the natural lighting that the cottage provided. His eyes blinked open and he felt his heart race as he woke up. It wasn’t unusual for him to wake with a wave of anxiety, usually from a nightmare he had no recollection of by the time he opened his eyes. The only evidence was his pounding heart and uneven breath. He felt the thin layer of sweat on his back and pulled his outstretched hand toward his body, it closing onto Shane’s bare waist instead of his own and he took a deep breath. Right. He’s here. Shane’s here. Ilya relaxed his shoulder, he hadn’t even noticed how tense they were. He licked his lips and he could feel how dry his throat was. They must have sweat throughout the night. Shane was a large heater, which Ilya still needed to get used to. He wanted to get to it. To be able to complain about Shane being too warm. But for now, he knew to relish in it. The privilege to sleep so close to Shane, to be so close he could taste his sweat when he breathed him in. Ilya lifted his head and Shane’s hand slid from Ilya’s hair to the nape of his neck as Shane took in a deep breath. Ilya smiled, he couldn’t help it. Shane, he discovered, always woke up by opening one eye at a time. As if he were trying to catch the sunlight off guard. Shane’s right eye slowly opened as his left squeezed shut. Ilya pressed his lips together, trying to hide his smile which he assumed was shit-eatingly wide. But he couldn’t as Shane’s cheeks warmed to a blush and his left eye opened. They locked eyes, Shane’s still a bit droopy from sleep. “Good morning.” Shane managed, his voice was grovel and a bit rough, he definitely wasn’t used to talking so soon after waking up. “Morning.” Ilya whispered back, leaning up to kiss Shane. “Ah, we haven’t brushed our teeth.” Shane lifted his hand between their mouths. “Yes, but I love you and you love me. So we kiss with dirty mouths.” Ilya kissed Shane’s hand. “Ilya.” Shane warned. “Shane.” Ilya lifted his eyebrows. “Please.” Shane lifted his back. “Fine.” Ilya sighed, dropping his head to Shane’s chest and peppering kisses onto his chest instead. “Let’s brush our teeth.” Shane let out a little noise and Ilya smiled against his skin, wanting more than anything to just stay in bed all day and kiss their confessions into each other’s mouths until it felt normal and stale because they had spent so many goddamn years stopping themselves from saying it. From feeling it. But he knew that Shane wouldn’t allow that, that he would want to freshen up, be as clean as they could be before they tasted each other again, and that is why he loved Shane. Ilya planted a hand on either side of Shane and pushed himself up, leaning back onto his heels to admire Shane as he was laid out on his back. “You look pretty.” Ilya caught his bottom lip between his teeth in a teasing grin. “Shut up.” Shane sat up, swinging his leg around Ilya and standing up rather gracefully for someone who had just woken up. “Hm, never.” Ilya tilted his head, though Shane’s back was to him, and crawled off the bed. Shane turned toward Ilya and offered his hand once they were both standing, Ilya’s heart could burst at how casual and normal it felt to slip his hand into Shane’s and intertwine their fingers so they could walk into the bathroom together. Ilya walked half a pace behind Shane so he could admire the slight curve of Shane’s back as they walked. Shane’s back was absent of any flaw, not a scar or freckle in sight, just a perfect plain of warm, rich skin. Ilya wanted to kiss every inch of it. The bathroom wasn’t far, maybe even too close to their bed for Ilya’s liking, so Shane was already letting go of Ilya’s hand. Ilya pouted slightly and caught Shane’s gaze in the mirror. Shane smiled and rolled his eyes and Ilya smiled back. “Do my toothbrush?” Ilya asked cutely and Shane scrunched his nose. “Please?” “You have hands.” Shane shot a half-assed glare in the mirror, but immediately softened when Ilya wrapped an arm around him and pressed his fingertips against his plush belly. “Yes, but they are busy.” Ilya kissed Shane’s shoulder, knowing he had won whatever this little chirp was, and turned to hug Shane’s side fully, planting more kisses onto his shoulder and arm. Shane only hummed happily, pulling Ilya’s toothbrush from its holder, where he had insisted Ilya to put it only three days before, wet it, squeezed toothpaste on, then wet it again before he held it up to Ilya. Ilya planted a wet kiss on his shoulder then turned, opening his mouth for Shane. Shane huffed and nudged Ilya’s chest with his elbow. Take it. Ilya just jutted out his chin and opened his mouth a bit wider. Shane rolled his eyes and pushed it into Ilya’s mouth. Ilya quickly caught it with his left hand and began to scrub, resting his head on Shane’s shoulder as Shane prepared his own toothbrush. Shane’s eyes were down, but Ilya lazily brushed his teeth as he waited for Shane’s eyes to shoot up to the mirror to analyze his own face. Shane did exactly that, but his eyes shifted to Ilya’s gaze immediately. The analytical look in his eyes softened to nothing but a swirling pool of a rich hot chocolate and Ilya smiled around his toothbrush.
