    All told he got into a couple scraps a year, but nothing to write home about – he didn’t instigate, he didn’t go too far. He kept his head level and focused on what it needed to be focused on: winning the game. Sure, one time he almost punched Scott Hunter’s lights out after a game, but whatever – he was emotionally compromised then, sue him. Mostly everyone assumed that was a weird blip and let it go, and he and Scott maintained enough professional friendliness at league events that everyone figured it wasn’t personal, which it wasn’t.

    All of that to say that the more and more the media went on about Hockey’s Golden Boy, the more people forgot that Shane was, at the end of the day, just like any other professional hockey player. He knew how to throw a fucking punch. He just chose not to, most times, for strategic reasons.

    It became apparent that people had forgotten this very key fact almost immediately after he joined the Centaurs.

It may be read as a standalone but will be much better understood if the complete series is read first.) 4 Years Old Just as Shane and Ilya had predicted, Misha turned out to be a large toddler. It wasn’t surprising considering both of his dads were tall. He stood nearly a head taller than his peers at daycare and was extremely fast on his long legs when he wanted to. Despite this, it seemed that Misha didn’t like to take up very much space. His daycare teachers always remarked that Misha liked to keep to himself, preferring to do activities by himself over group activities. This wasn’t a huge surprise to either of them as Misha was a little man of few words, but once he started talking, there was no stopping him. He would have these bursts of energy where his mouth was powered by a motor and he would go on and on. Shane lived for these moments. Sitting on the couch together, Shane sank deeper into the cushions as Misha sprawled out beside him. Even though he had just woken up minutes earlier, Misha traced shapes along Shane’s large stomach and kicked his legs as he expressed his excitement: “hello baby. Is me, your big brother. I so excited for you to come. Daddy says will be long time before I meet you. Can you please come soon?” “Hopefully not too soon, Malyshka,” Shane huffed out a laugh. He still had one more month to go before baby girl was coming. “Okay, not too soon, baby. But still soon. Papa and Daddy say I was big baby so it was ouchie for Daddy when I camed out. Please don’t make Daddy ouchie. He is very good daddy so I don’ want him to hurt.” Shane’s heart soared as he listened to his baby talk. He really did try his best to take care of Misha to the best of his ability, so it was beyond nice to hear that he was doing okay. Gently, Shane ran his hands through Misha’s soft, dark chestnut curls. “I show you how good Daddy and Papa are. I show you all of my toys and books. We read together at night for story time. Maybe I take you to school and show you to everyone in my class for show and tell. They will be so-uhh Daddy what do I say for when people want what I has?” Shane pressed his lips together to not show how overly emotional he was getting. “I think the best word to use here is ‘jealous.’” “Yeah, jealous. Everyone in my class will be so jealous that I has baby sister. I no share you with them, but I share everything I has with you, baby.” “That’s so nice of you, Misha.” Shane stopped trying to hide his emotions so tears ran down his face. There was no point in trying anyways. He was heavily pregnant and his baby already loved his sister so much. Suddenly, Misha crawled to his feet and held both sides of Shane’s face with his warm little hands. “Don’t cry, Daddy. I sorry. I didn’t want to make you cry.” “It’s okay, Daddy is not sad. These are happy tears.” Misha immediately peppered Shane’s face with several kisses just as he’d seen his papa do multiple times. He left little splotches of his saliva over Shane’s face but Shane didn’t mind it at all. His baby boy already knew so much about love and kindness at such a young age that he didn’t know what to do with himself. “Uh-oh, someone is trying to steal Daddy away from me,” Ilya’s groggy voice came from behind them. Ilya came into the living room only wearing his boxers, leaving his body out on display for Shane. It wasn’t fair to Shane that his fiancé looked like a grecian statue even straight out of bed. Because they had a toddler and a baby on the way, Shane couldn’t do half of the things he wanted to do with Ilya anymore, but it was a bitter price that he was more than willing to pay. “Daddy crying so I make him happy,” Misha replied, still holding onto Shane’s face. “Happy tears, Ilya,” Shane immediately supplemented. “Our malyshka is just being way too sweet.” Just as Ilya tried to pick Misha up to give him his morning hug, Misha let out a small snarl. “I wanna stay with Daddy. I have to stay with him and sis.” “Why is that?” Ilya laughed, surprised at his son’s actions. “I protect,” Misha said with the most determined face that Shane had ever seen him make. “Protect us from what, Malyshka?” Shane asked. “Everything.” “Okay then. You protect your daddy and sister while I go start making breakfast.” Shane sat on the sofa for several more minutes, listening to Misha’s fantasies of being a big brother. He was utterly fixated on protecting his sister until Misha decided that Papa’s eggs and bacon sounded more important. ~~~ Marina Yuna Hollander-Rozanov came into the world at thirty-five weeks, far earlier than anyone could have predicted. According to Dr. Patel, sometimes babies naturally came early and it seemed like Shane didn’t have any conditions that could have caused it. Born at five pounds and five ounces, Mari was immediately admitted into the NICU so that she could be treated for her respiratory issues and jaundice.     It's 2023. Ottawa has a real chance at the cup again this year. First win could've been luck but a second one in a row would cement their reputation. And if these few remaining games go right, they will be looking at back-to-back wins. Shane might be the first player in MHL history who has consecutive wins in two different teams. He will never do anything to jeopardize that opportunity. But his body. Something's happening... Not to mention his temper. It can probably wait until after they get the cup though. Probably. Or, it’s Shane’s second season with the Centaurs and he’s getting that cup, no matter what his body’s screaming at him. Ilya’s more stressed about it than he is. They get the cup and a pretty amazing souvenir out of it by the end of the season though. Set in a universe where everyone can get pregnant. Men just have a harder time being carriers. It usually takes a while for them and is normally done on purpose. Hollanov is really just that “casually beats the odds” couple.
