“Just-” Ilya starts, intending to tease, the offer of a massage more about getting Hollander back in a more relaxed headspace than anything else, but then the wire-tight tension in the muscles under his fingers registers, and he frowns, pressing testingly before making a noise of disapproval. “Fuck, Hollander, you are secretly doing crime or what?”

“What?” Hollander asks, confused, starting to lift his head before Ilya pushes it back down absently, focused now on feeling out the knots Hollander seems to be completely made of. He’s felt tension in Hollander’s shoulders before, usually during coaxing little squeezes while coaching him through learning how to deep throat, but he’s always written it off as nerves from learning something new.

Now he wonders if Hollander is just nerves, period.

(the "ilya massages shane" fic inspired by hudson saying that playing shane made him sore because he was so tense all the time)

  3. Ilya has a bad night waiting for the visiting hours to start so he can see Shane after watching him go down on the ice. For he spends the night with his brain creating patterns between the stillness of Shane on the ice and the stillness of his Mother when he found her. And the possibilities of if Shane wakes up but starts having confusion and memory problems like his father. He spirals fast.

  4. The first thing you should know about time loops is that they’re really fucking hard to break. The second thing is that you can never break one in such a way that it is incapable of returning.

The third thing you should know is that everyone around you has probably been stuck in a time loop at one point or another, and they made it out alive. This is only comforting if you’re a numbers guy, or if you’re the kind of guy who talks to others about how it feels to live the same day over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Shame if you’re not; the most important thing you should know about breaking a time loop is that it helps to tell someone you’re trapped in one in the first place.

  5. “You like this.” Ilya said more like a statement than a question.

    “Like what?”

“When I said that this is something serious.”

    Shane blushed and looked away.

Ilya gently grabbed Shane's chin and brought his face up to meet Ilya’s eyes.

    “I like it too.”

Shane and Ilya don’t hook up until a little later on in their story, but not for lack of trying or interest. When they do finally get together, things move faster and feelings are expressed sooner. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t difficult moments to overcome on the path to their happy ending.

This story is an exploration of a completely alternative timeline in the Hollanov love story—using a combination of the show and the original Heated Rivalry and Long Game books. There will be pining, yearning, big emotional moments, and angsty roadblocks. With, of course, a very happy ending for our boys.

  6. Spring, 2021. The Ottawa Centaurs are playoff-bound, Shane Hollander is suing the MLH for discrimination, and Ilya Rozanov wants the rookie that's sleeping with Hollander and stringing Luca Haas along off his f*cking hockey team. He's barely keeping it together as it is.

Meanwhile, the Boston Raiders are playing the long game: trading for Hayden Pike, making sure that if Hollander comes back to the league, they've got their bargaining chip in place. A month later, Pike would agree with them, as news outlets report Hollander's attachment to a player in the league with a familiar alias.

“-can’t see each other again,” Ilya says, looking only at Shane’s hand, holding it so, so gently and stroking over Shane’s skin so, so softly. The soothing feeling of it makes it very hard to focus, but Shane tries very hard to do it anyway. “I tried-we tried, but this can’t happen again.” It takes a moment, but Shane finally manages to make sense of the words, and he lets out a soft noise of understanding.

Ah. He’s apologizing that he won’t be able to see Shane in the hospital again before he leaves.

“I understand,” he says, and he does. It was probably really hard for Ilya to get here even once, and it can’t be very long before his plane leaves. He’s sad, of course–they didn’t even get to spend time together, really–but it’s not like this will be the last chance they ever have to see each other. He gives Ilya his best attempt at a smile, and if it comes out a little sad, too, all Ilya does is reach out to stroke the backs of his fingers gently over his cheek.

(ilya goes through with his plan to break up with shane in the hospital) (the problem? shane is too high to understand that he's being broken up with)

  8. “You know, I could marry Svetlana,” Ilya said, apropos of nothing. Shane looked up from his phone, frowning. “To get an American passport,” Ilya went on, casual as anything, like they were talking about travel plans or a trade rumor. Not Shane’s worst nightmare. “It would be like a business agreement. She would do it.” “Okay,” Shane said slowly, already hearing the faint crack in his voice. “Sure. A business agreement. But…It’s not like you could just fake it. You’d have to live with her. She would get to come home to you.” “Yes, but it would be like roommates,” Ilya said. “We could still be this-” he gestured loosely between them, like that explained everything. “She wouldn’t mind.” “She’d be your wife, Ilya.” The word was like a lash, even to his own ears. --- What if the "I could marry Svetlana" scene and Ilya being LOST in the sauce sex scene had a baby? And that baby was angst + comfort + shower sex?

  9. Ilya's heart shouldn’t be pounding at the prospect of having Shane in his arms once again. And yet, it was. When Ilya exited the club, he saw Shane inside a sensible car—a blue Jeep. Seconds later, the car was skirting off the gravel road. Ilya tried his best not to be disappointed, or hurt, but managed neither. (Or Alt. post-club scene from Ilya's POV. He finds Shane's car pulled on the side of the road. They talk.)

But when Ilya Rozanov and David have been getting along better than well, and Shane unwittingly fractures their efforts, leaving Ilya heavy under a loneliness the boy cannot quite name, David doesn't understand where he went wrong.

Shane should be here right now, should be in Ilya’s house. Ilya should be teasing him about being picky while going through delivery options for food on his phone. Shane should be discovering that Ilya has ginger ale in the fridge and the protein bars Shane mentioned liking in an interview in his pantry. He should be making out with Shane on the couch, sneaking a hand into his pants, teasing him about whether they can beat the deliveryman and arrive before he does. Shane was supposed to spend the night tonight, the Montreal team not set to leave until tomorrow afternoon because of potential bad weather in the morning. Shane should be fed and showered and ready to curl up in bed with Ilya tonight.
But Shane is in a hospital.

    And Ilya is here.

He pulls up Jane in his phone again. He presses call.

    “Hey, you’ve reached Shane Hollander-”

Ilya closes his eyes and lets Shane’s voice roll over him.

  14. Ilya Rozanov always knew that Shane Hollander carried the Montreal Metros on his shoulders, but when the whole world gets to see the same thing, the game changes.
And having to watch his boyfriend exhaust himself playing practically alone while his teammates ignore him makes anger bubble in Ilya's chest.
But it's at his own press conference that things... heat up.

    OR,

  15. “What? Hollander too scared to face me?” Ilya chirps, because if he goes another minute without at least mentioning the man that has been consuming his every thought for two weeks he might go insane. He needs someone else to acknowledge his existence, his absence, to fucking tell him what’s going on so he can finally get it off his mind. It’s just a stupid mystery. That’s why it bugs him.

And then Hayden Pike looks up. Dark bruised circles under his eyes, face pale like a sheet, eyes red rimmed and puffy like he has been crying all day. The face of a man mourning.

Ilya feels like the ice might crack under him. Something’s wrong with Shane.

  16. They were once the greatest MLH draft prospects in the world - number one and two, in whatever order came to be on the day. But life had other plans, and all it took was a few weeks in ‘09 to see both Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander become nothing more than hypotheticals and statistical what-ifs deep in reddit threads and hockey chatrooms.

But still, their paths were destined to cross when Ilya took his daughter to her first skating lesson.

Until an incriminating question from a reporter causes the rubber band inside him to snap, and Shane says all the things he shouldn't say.

The man handed it over eagerly and Shane took a deep breath, praying that this actually worked. The phone rang and rang before going to voicemail, but Shane relaxed when the familiar old voice confirmed it still belonged to the man he’d known as a kid. And Shane, eternal hater of asking for help, did his best to complete one of the most awkward tasks of his life.
“Hi Mr. Chabaud, this is Shane, David and Yuna’s boy. Um, this is going to sound strange, and trust me it’s a long story, but when you get this could you go across the street to my parents house and tell them the news is wrong and I’m not actually dead?”
    Or
