And if these few remaining games go right, they will be looking at back-to-back wins. Shane might be the first player in MHL history who has consecutive wins in two different teams. He will never do anything to jeopardize that opportunity. But his body. Something's happening... Not to mention his temper. It can probably wait until after they get the cup though. Probably. Or, it’s Shane’s second season with the Centaurs and he’s getting that cup, no matter what his body’s screaming at him. Ilya’s more stressed about it than he is. They get the cup and a pretty amazing souvenir out of it by the end of the season though. Set in a universe where everyone can get pregnant. Men just have a harder time being carriers. It usually takes a while for them and is normally done on purpose. Hollanov is really just that “casually beats the odds” couple.

Witches have familiars, Ilya knows that. And this is a perfect spot for a familiar to be, on the stoop of the witch's house. Logic follows that the cat must be the witch's familiar.

    So he says, very politely, “Shane is expecting us,” even though he has no idea if that’s true or not.

    The cat yawns, tiny sharp teeth flashing at Ilya. Its ears flick again and then it curls up into a ball of fur, right there on the brick wall despite the fact that they’re hurtling towards the end of November and it’s fucking freezing outside.

    “Is that good or bad, do you think,” Ilya asks Seryozha in Russian, gesturing at the cat when the familiar doesn’t move again except to curl its tail over the tip of its pink nose.

    Seryozha’s phone screen flashes white in the darkness. That is a cat, he types, and Ilya scowls. It’s a fucking magical cat.

    And that’s fine, really. Being Shane Hollander’s husband means he has so much material to work with. 

    “Okay, well, what about the time you bought us a sex building?” he asks, and barely gets the sentence out before Zane Boodram makes a loud exclamation. 

    “A what now?” he asks, as the eyes of everyone on the plane flit back and forth from Shane to Ilya. 

    “Definitely not,” Shane snaps, and Ilya grins.

    “What about the time you panicked so much you got into a relationship with Rose Landry because I said your first name?”

    There’s an audible intake of breath, and Ilya watches as a number of emotions cross Shane’s face before it finally settles into something that looks resigned. 

    “Fine,” Shane says with a roll of his eyes, and the team cheers as Ilya’s smile grows so wide he knows his cheeks will start to hurt soon.

    Ilya claps his hands in front of him. “It all started with tuna melts.”
