Ilya nearly loses it when Shane demonstrates the ‘plow’, his legs over his head and ass fully suspended in the air. He swears he pops a vein when Shane is in a reclined middle split—now that’s just cruel to his psyche. However, nothing could’ve prepared Ilya for— “The downward dog,” Shane announces their last stretch of the day, “A classic that I’m sure all of you know. An easy pose right before our cooldown.” Sure, the pose itself was easy enough. So easy, in fact, that Shane gets into the position without second thought. He’s faced down, and his ass was flexed upwards, and his cheeks were flushed red, and well, fuck. Great, if it wasn’t obvious enough that Ilya was having a mental hard-on at the thought of Shane Hollander on his fours in a very different context outside of the yoga studio, then the thin material of his gym shorts surely betrayed him. Or, Ilya attends a yoga class for the first time.

  4. It’s perhaps the sweetest Svetlana has ever known Ilyusha to be. She has always been granted access to the more affectionate side of Ilyusha, the one that he rarely shows to anyone else, but it was never anything compared to this. This tenderness, this adoration, that he gives so freely to Shane. It’s like her best friend is a completely different person right now, and she starts to wonder if maybe she was wrong earlier. Maybe, instead of being too boring for Ilyusha, perhaps Shane Hollander is giving him the space to become something soft. Something without walls, or masks, or armour. (Or, 5 times people doubt their love for each other, and 1 time they are certain of it.)

  5. “Does the Dominus enjoy serving a slave?” Ilya murmured. Shane looked up at him through dark lashes. His mouth was a hairsbreadth away from Ilya’s cock, and Ilya could see the exact moment the last of his composure burned out, shedding, the way a snake left its old skin behind, eyes bright and body underneath already new— —and instead of answering, Shane licked a stripe up the underside of his shaft, root to tip. The law calls Ilya a slave. The mob of Rome calls him their lion, their Gladiator. Senator’s son Shane calls him to his bed. Now Shane wants to call him free, but that means owning him first.

  11. There had been so many moments growing up when Ilya was certain Alexei wanted him dead. Or at least hurt him badly enough that the message would stick. Sometimes it wasn't even from their physical fights. Sometimes it was just from the way Alexei looked at him. With that particular expression of pure disdain. Like Ilya's very existence was an offense Alexei had to endure. Maybe that's how Max and Niko were starting to see each other now. Maybe this was how it started. Or, Shane and Ilya's sons get into a physical fight, and it drags up memories Ilya thought he’d left behind.

  12. Shane Hollander took a job at the Rozanov estate because he needed the money, not because he wanted to spend his days polishing marble floors in a house that felt more like a museum than a home. He definitely didn’t expect to keep running into Ilya Rozanov—the heir. Ilya was used to control. Shane was just trying to survive. Somewhere between stolen glances and quiet hallways, they started wanting things they weren’t supposed to want. And in a house built on rules, that turned out to be the most dangerous thing of all.

  13. Shane stuck his hand out. “Shane Hollander.” He waited for… well, he didn’t know what. A flicker of recognition. Possibly surprise? Delight was perhaps a bit much to hope for, but maybe some kind of excitement about meeting one’s soulmate, the same giddy feeling that was swirling in Shane’s stomach just from standing face to face. Ilya Rozanov gave him nothing. Just glanced between Shane’s face and his hand like Shane had offended him somehow, before finally taking it— —and promptly turning back around to light his cigarette. In which Ilya Rozanov is the name on Shane’s wrist, but Shane Hollander is not on Ilya’s.

  14. “Babe.”

“What?” Hayden says, twisting his wedding ring around his finger.

“Have you ever seen Shane with a girl?”

    “Um, yeah. Rose Landry, hello?”

“Besides Rose,” Jackie says firmly. “They weren’t together very long, either, right? I mean, I didn’t even get to meet her! And, they stayed friends after.”

Jackie stands from the bar stool and leans against the island, crossing her arms over her chest. “I don’t get it. What does that have to do with anything?”

In which Hayden Pike loves his clever wife, walks in on something he perhaps shouldn't have, and a few awkward dinners are had.

  16. “You have no idea who your parents really are, do you?” the Russian asked seriously after a few minutes passed of them staring at one another, though it was really more Shane glaring and heaving while Ilya calmly observed him with an unsure glint in his eye. “I have no idea what I’m doing here and what you want with them. If this is some kind of stupid business dispute, I have bad news for you, asshole. I don't know about their business, I don’t even know what their business is, and I’ve never been involved in their business,” Shane seethed as slowly as he possibly could so Ilya could understand that he genuinely had no idea of what was going on. “Now will you please untie me and take me home? I don’t even care if you knock me out again, just fucking let me go!” Ilya set the glass down to the side of him on the black leather cushion and rose from his seat, unfolding gracefully until he was towering over Shane with cool indifference. He bent slightly, leaned in close enough to Shane’s face that he could smell the vodka the Russian man had been drinking, then said easily, “I think I will keep you, actually.”

  17. It’s not going viral because Jane’s true identity was exposed—or even because Ilya was blatantly sexting in public. That part’s as expected as Shane doing yoga or any human being on earth breathing. No, the texts are going viral because no one can believe how bad this “Jane” is at sexting. The women of the world are outraged. The men of the world are baffled. No one can understand why Ilya Rozanov, whose abs have their own fan club, is wasting his time on ‘a piece of cardboard that wished to be turned into a real girl’ (this particular joke has 300k likes and counting). Or: After a social media trend mocks Shane's sexting skills, he tries to improve them. It goes about as poorly as you'd expect. Now available in Russian

  19. Shane gets accidentally drunk and tells Hayden that he loves Ilya. Cue mental breakdowns and Hayden losing his mind at seeing Ilya Rozanov be soft and loving with his best friend. Hayden had always known that his best friend was uptight, even before they had become friends. He knew Shane had a lot of rules and a strict timetable that he never wavered from. It had not deterred Hayden from pursuing a friendship with Shane, though. He found Shane's presence comforting, he didn't have to put on any act in front of Shane, didn't have to be on all the time. In the deepest corners of his brain, he admitted to himself that Shane was the only person on the team that he wanted to hang out with outside of hockey commitments. Shane had become his best friend, his little brother very quickly, worming his way into Hayden's heart effortlessly. In the years that they had been friends, Hayden had never once seen Shane drunk or high. During the season, Shane didn't drink at all and in the off-season, he never let himself drink more than one glass of wine. Shane had told him that he had only had hard liqueur once and hadn't liked the taste of it. Which is why he was surprised when he walked into J.J.'s house to find Shane on the couch with some of the rookies, giggling his ass off with a bottle of half empty vodka cruiser in his hand. Shane gasped when he saw Hayden, bouncing off the couch and towards him. "Hayd! You're here!" Shane exclaimed, an uncharacteristic wide grin on his face. "Hey buddy, whatcha drinking there?" Hayden asked, lips curling up in amusement. "Oh, you have got to try this! It is so yummy, it's fruit juice!" Shane grinned, shoving the bottle towards Hayden clumsily. Hayden's eyebrows raised up to his hairline and he said, "Uh, that's not fruit juice, Shane. That has vodka." "No way," Shane gasped, bringing the bottle closer to his face and squinting at the wrapping. "Lemme check," Shane mumbled and took another long swig from the bottle. "Okaaayy," Hayden sighed and pulled the bottle away from Shane's mouth. "Think that's enough, you're super drunk." "Oh no, I'm drunk?" Shane asked, eyes widening as he poked himself on the cheek. He suddenly grabbed Hayden's arms and shook, babbling, "No, no, no, am I drunk? Hayd, am I drunk? I can't believe I drank during the season. Oh no! We have a game day after tomorrow! No, no, I'm gonna die. I won't - we're gonna lose and Ilya is gonna be there and he's going to be so disappointed. Fuck, no, I can't be drunk. No alcohol during hockey. God, I'm so stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid -," "Shane, buddy, breathe," Hayden interrupted, then frowned and confusedly whispered 'Ilya' under his breath. "Look, I'm gonna get you some water and drop you home and you are going straight to bed -," Hayden was cut off by the ringing of Shane's phone. "Lily!" Shane beamed at his phone, swiping on the incoming call and bringing the phone up to his ear. "Heyyy, Lily. Miss you. Where are you? Come to J.J.'s house, 'm having so much fun! We can have so much fun together!" Hayden couldn't hear what Lily said but Shane giggled and replied, "No, silly, I'm not concussed. Hayden said I'm drunk, suuuuper drunk. I drunk vodka. No, 's supposed to be drink? Drunked? Drank?" "Shane, maybe you shouldn't talk to anyone right now," Hayden said, reaching for Shane's phone. "No, he's mine," Shane pouted, cradling his phone protectively with both hands. "My baby." Lily must have said something because Shane suddenly smiled brightly, Hayden had never seen him look so happy before. "Really?" Shane's eyes had gone glassy and Hayden was seriously debating forcefully wrestling Shane into his car to drive him home if necessary. Hayden scowled when J.J. suddenly stumbled over to them, wrapping an arm around Shane's shoulders. "Why the fuck did you give him alcohol, man?" "Relax, dude. This is only, like, his second or third bottle," J.J. shrugged. "Yeah, relax, dude," Shane huffed at him before going back to listen to what Lily was saying to him. "Come on, Comeau is setting up beer pong!" J.J. exclaimed, looking drunker than Shane. He then squinted at Shane's phone and asked, "Who're you talking to anyways?" "The love of my life," Shane sighed dopily. He giggled again, in response to Lily, Hayden assumed, and said, "Talkin' 'bout you, silly-billy." Hayden removed J.J.'s arm from Shane and declared, "I'm driving him home now, he's had enough." "Noooo, I don't wanna go!" Shane whined, tapering off as he focused on what Lily was saying. His face drew into a pout the longer he listened to Lily and a minute later, he grumbled, "Fine, I'll let Hayden drive me home. 's no fair, though." "Oh, thank god," Hayden groaned, head tipping back in relief. "'k, love you," Shane muttered into the phone, dejectedly shoving it into his pocket after. "I just love him so much," Shane sighed and Hayden noticed his head lolling towards him from the corner of his eye. Hayden asked, distracted as he focused on the busy road, "You love who, buddy?" "Lily," Shane breathed.

  20. “What is this?” Ilya asked. “Ah.” Shane couldn’t quite meet his eyes as a faint blush crept across his cheeks. “Well, I wasn’t sure what the dress code would be for the party, so I laid out some options for us.” Ilya’s heart fucking stopped. “The… what is this, what is happening?” Ilya asked, wanting to be sure that he understood correctly. Shane’s blush intensified as he gave Ilya a small, unsure smile. “I don’t know Boodram very well, so I had to guess what the vibe would be. You were… you were in the shower for a long time and I was feeling anxious so I… Sorry, it’s so stupid but I just wanted to… I don’t know, show you I’m in?” Or, what if Shane didn't leave after their fight on Boxing Day?
