Cliff's jaw was firmly hanging open, and he didn't think it was going to move anytime today. He felt as if he'd been punched in the stomach, all the air ripped away from his lungs. "Am I dreaming?" Cliff muttered to himself. Pike let out a strained laugh. "I think someone spiked my coffee this morning." (cliff, ilya, hayden & shane's parents visit shane in hospital after the incident. a very drugged up shane cannot hide his feelings for ilya)

In Episode 2 of Heated Rivalry (2025) during the 2011 All-Star Game, Scott Hunter overhears Ilya Rozanov whisper “1221” to Shane Hollander when Ilya thinks he’s being so subtle no one would notice. In 2014 after Shane attempts Baby’s First Insult, Scott hits him where it hurts by suggesting he knows something.
But these geniuses were never really subtle. They weren’t subtle before that All-Star Game and they weren’t subtle after it. The show didn’t have time to show it, but Scott saw them being dumb and obvious way more than that one scene implied. Here are the deleted scenes.

Since then they have pursued first permanent foster placement and adoption. That adoption was granted and finalized this month. Mac Hollander -Rozanov has been in many pictures that, with his permission, are being re- edited and re-uploaded to remove the emojis that were used to protect his identity in accordance with the government's guidelines." An additional paragraph added to a photo Ilya and Shane shared to their personal Instagrams: "Family looks different for everyone, and our family is no different. Mac is our son, and we are so incredibly proud of him and his achievements. We hope that the hockey community will be as respectful of him as they are of other children of players."

There was no reason to complicate things with hard truths that not even he understood. Instead, his lip wobbled, and he found that he couldn’t say anything at all. “Ah,” Ilya made a noise that sounded nearly as devastated as Shane felt, and put a hand on the back of his neck, pulling him forward. Shane went easily, his forehead pressing into Ilya’s shoulder, and breathing deeply through his nose, trying not to cry. Or, Shane drops after leaving Ilya's house.
