Shane Hollander and Liliya Rozanova have had a good thing going: they’re in love, she gets on with his parents, and they both understand each other’s priorities on the ice. It’s almost perfect, except for the stuff that they’ve never quite been able to talk about. But now Liliya’s reaching the end of her career as a figure skater, and the issue of her work visa is looming over them. And with everything falling apart around her, she’s determined to be open with Shane at last. Except, for Shane, this means confronting the parts of himself that he’s never reckoned with before, and he has to decided what is more important to him: this love that he has found or his love of hockey.

or - Roz starts thinking about the parts of himself he’s never acknowledged before, and Shane starts to think about changing his long game.

At twenty-one, Ilya Rozanov is the Soviet Union’s most perfect weapon, a soldier of the Red Machine who has spent three years locked in a silent, jagged war on the ice with Canada’s golden boy, Shane Hollander.

When the Montreal Metros claim him as a "wasted" mid-round draft pick, the rivalry transforms from a professional grudge into a desperate lifeline. On the final night of the 1988 Calgary Olympics, he risks everything, his family, his career, and his safety, to start a new life in the West. Forced into a high-stakes billet under the roof of his bitter professional rival, Ilya must navigate a world where freedom feels like a new kind of prison.

As Ilya struggles to adapt, the crumbling Soviet empire reaches across the ocean, searching for leverage to help pull him back.

OR: What if Ilya fled Russia in 1988 to play for the Montreal Metros?

Shane didn’t remember his first time skating, but he remembered when hockey became a career, when he became the vessel for his parents’ dreams, when his hockey ability came second to where his ancestors were born or who he loved, when he became a brand. Somewhere in these memories, though he couldn’t say exactly where, he learned to hide himself.

And then, behind an arena in Regina, he met Ilya Rozanov, who managed to see him anyway. The hours they spent together each year became the only time Shane could breathe, until being apart felt like suffocating. But Shane had entered the hockey world with two strikes against him, and he couldn’t let Ilya become his third.

Shane's mouth is hot and wet against Ilya’s throat, as Ilya catches sight of the Metros spilling into their VIP section, the Friday evening after their first week of Montreal’s hockey camp, his teeth a dull, warm pressure, one hand curled across the nape of his neck, his fingers sunk into Ilya's curls.

Ilya, because at his heart he's an absolute bastard, smirks as soon as Pike clocks the two of them, watching a bevy of emotions spike across his face before they dissolve into something a little more resigned, a little bit hungry.

OR: Shane gets to be a slut in public, snap at the Comeau, and get lovingly fucked out of his mind. Ilya's pretty sure it's one of the best night they've ever had.

Shane immediately makes his move to lock down the boy he’s had a crush on all this time, before it’s too late. Shane Hollander doesn't know what he is. He knows what he wants. For a long time, he tells himself those are different things.

Ilya Rozanov knows what he is. He can't control what he wants. For a long time, he tells himself those are the same thing.

What if after tuna melts, whispered names and the Rose of it all - in a post All Stars Game world - Shane thinks the world is finally starting to make sense again to him. Once the ground is firm under his feet - or so he thinks anyway - it's turns out to be less than stable? What if when Shane was getting his hook ups in Mexico and Hollywood - he wasn’t as unnoticed as he had originally thought?

When Montreal shows it’s true colors sooner, a No Trade Clause is waived and Boston gets an opportunity to build a dynasty that rivals the one of their largest rivals up North.

What if Shane and Ilya’s worlds are turned upside down and things with their over 8 year long situationship (now maybe relationship?) suddenly got more complicated and somehow simplified at the same time? Shane honestly thinks this is possibly the most ‘them’ resolution to a situation he has ever found. Ilya is just doing his best - he thinks. Maybe.

Also, the Power Play in Boston is about to be the thing of nightmares, if a certain Russian can stop blocking Shane's damn shot…

When Brad leaks the FanMail, Hayden Pike is pretty certain that this is something he’ll never be able to atone for, no matter how much he wishes he could. Of course, this was before he wakes up in the past - 2014, to be exact, after the Olympics when Shane is being ghosted by ‘Boston Lily’. Hayden knows that Boston Lily does not exist. Shane does not know that Hayden knows this. Hayden is determined that he will be a better ally this time around - and, in the name of this purpose, decides that he needs to try his hand at being the best openly bisexual hockey player that the world could ask for. With his wife fully supportive of this and Cliff Marlow also… there, Hayden sets out to achieve the best friend of the year award.

or - Hayden Pike queerbaits his way into true love and a reformation of locker room culture. Is there an easier way he could have done this? Yeah, probably. In his defence, he thinks it's more authentic this way.

"Never have I ever checked out my teammates in the locker room." Comeau said, looking directly at him. Shane left his beer exactly where it was and met Comeau's gaze without saying a word, waiting for someone else to break the silence, because surely that had to have been a joke. "Come on, Cap. It's no fun if you're just gonna lie." Drapeau let out with a quiet snort. Shane frowned, genuinely confused. "What?" It occurs to Shane, distantly, that he’ll have to wear the defaced jersey and his sweaty uniform pants if he wants to leave the locker room. He really, really wants to leave the locker room.

His feet won’t move, though, like the bottom half of his body is suddenly made of lead, while the rest of him twists uncontrollably in the wind. His head feels like it’s floating off into outer space.
