"Oh god," someone else said loudly, watching the flames continue to consume the house. Shane vaguely heard them talk, but the words in his head were all Ilya, Ilya, Ilya. "Ilya's in there!" Shane didn't even process that he was now screaming. He was too focused on getting to Ilya, on why the body he'd spent so many years working on wasn't strong enough to burst through the barricade. A window suddenly blew out, and Shane was staggering like he was in the room, his body slumping towards the ground before his mother's arms caught him.

Ilya Rozanov knew his English wasn't the best. As one of his ways to improve it, he started reading stories that fans wrote about hockey players on the internet. After meeting Shane Hollander, he decided to try writing some of these stories. To improve his English, of course. Or, Rozanov journaled all of his interactions with Hollander in English and posted them as fanfics online.

Shane liked to think he wasn't difficult. He was actually rather agreeable given his circumstances — those circumstances being that he was as round as a beach ball and that he couldn't exactly help that his shoes wouldn't fit so that he couldn't go with his alpha to pick up their to-go order at their favorite pizzeria down the street. That was okay…yeah, he didn't really need to get out of the house anyways. He had gotten enough fresh air and sunshine earlier when he was walking Anya down the street. That was when his feet weren't made of literal rising dough. There were no shoes that fit— he had tried. And if he didn't have a fried stick of cheese in his hand in about five more seconds he was going to either cry or possibly shove his swollen feet in his bright yellow crocs and trudge down the street to retrieve them himself. The bad part is, it was such a niche craving that they could have really ordered anywhere but the thing was he wanted it now. Or the one where Shane really craves one thing.

Before Shane could even turn, movement surged behind him.
“Three, two, one—”
Then it hit.
A burst of confetti rained down over his head, sudden and bright, like a miniature snowstorm exploding out of nowhere. Shane instinctively ducked, shoulders hunching as the pieces caught in his hair, his helmet, his shoulders.
Laughter broke out.
And then they were there.
All of them.
Voyageurs players closed in from every direction, forming a loose, uneven circle that tightened fast, until Shane was right in the middle of it. Gloves thudded against pads. Someone’s arm hooked around his neck. Someone else smacked the back of his helmet.
“Capitaine.”
JJ’s voice again, somewhere inside the pile. Lower than usual, but clear.
“If we had to choose again,” he said, “we’d still pick you.”

Sent to Queer Studies 101 to appease twitter. Because he’d been cancelled. For being a homophobe. If was fucking ridiculous.
He turns to the professor. “So, can you help me take on Putin and NHL at same time or I need more advanced class for this?”
