“Ilya’s coming back?” He asked, almost giddy. And— maybe the meds were stronger than she’d realised. “No- he was just leaving. So he came by to see how you’re doing? Did he apologise for Marlow?” “He was so worried,” Shane said, a tiny furrow appearing between his eyebrows. “Marlow?” “No, Ilya! He gets all serious when he’s worried.” or, Yuna runs into Rozanov in the hospital and starts connecting dots

When Roz starts speaking, frantically letting out Russian words from his hospital bed, Troy jumps in fear. “Ty emu uzhe pozvonila? Gde mama?” While Troy might not know Russian, or any other Slavic language that might have offered him some sort of context, he understands the word for mother. His heart clenches in his chest. Calling for your mom, especially when you’re hurt and confused feels instinctive. Troy is pretty sure he’d do the same thing. But the thought of coming out of your dazed state while desperately wanting your mom, and the loss of your mom coming crashing down on you must be a different type of agony. Roz starts speaking again, Russian coming to him easier than English must. “Mama? Gde moya mama?”

Ilya is recovering after the brain surgery but recovery rerely is a straight line. And Ilya, done with hospitals, is up to mischief. Fortunately, Shane is there to make sure Ilya stays alive. *** This is set between "Hold On (I Still Want You)" and "Come Back (I Still Need You)" and focuses on Ilya's recovery after the brain surgery he underwent. It can be read as stand-alone but I think it's probably best to read at least first part of my series to get some context!

Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

For a second Ilya pauses, then he opens the door and steps inside. Yuna is sitting on the hospital bed with her leg wrapped in a cast. Besides her lifted leg, there are no obvious signs indicating anything even happened. They barely look at each other before wheezing laughter echoes throughout the room.
Five times Yuna needs Ilya’s help and one time he needs hers.

Yuna Hollander knew how to handle things. When half your life was based around a sport where people flew across ice with knives strapped to their feet and clubs in their hands, wrestling with what effectively became a rubber bullet when slapped hard enough, and when half that sport was about who could hit the hardest and fastest, you knew how to handle things. “I want you to know that I did really try. I tried really hard, but… I just can’t help it. I’m sorry.” She wasn’t quite sure what to do with that one. It was not a hockey puck slammed so hard into the teeth that they broke, but it sure felt like it. Or Yuna Hollander processes what her son has told her, and sees it in front of her own eyes.

you made a rebel of a careful woman's careful son (he is the best thing that's ever been mine) by cuterus24

It was awkward. What do you say to the boy your son loves when he’s awake in the middle of the night with a haunted look in his eye? Ilya looked nervous in a way that was difficult to place. She wondered if she should get Shane—the boy looked like he needed someone. He looked young, like he needed a mother. Yuna was a mother, and a damn good one if Shane was any indication. ~ How Ilya Rozanov goes from Yuna's son's archrival to her son's boyfriend to her favorite son. “I can’t just make some announcement, ‘hey everyone, Ilya babysat my kids, he’s a great guy!’” Hayden threw his hands up in the air. “I mean, actually you can, sweetie, but I was thinking something more gradual.” ... ... ... The one where Hayden is actually the hero of the story, because Jackie talks him into rehabilitating Ilya’s asshole image by publicly defending him, several times. The reactions to the FanMail are different this time, because of Hayden.

Yuna Hollander rounded the corner and finally came in view of the door to Shane’s hospital room. Her hand was almost on the handle when she noticed someone was already in the room, and she stopped in her tracks. At first she thought it might be one of Shane's teammates checking in on him, but the blonde curls at the back of the man’s head told her he wasn’t anyone she would have recognised from the Metros. Thinking about it, it made no sense, but he almost looked like— A clipped voice, slightly muffled by the door but with an unmistakable Russian accent confirmed her bewildered assumption. “Could have been worse,” she heard Ilya Rozanov say. When Ilya goes to visit Shane in the hospital in episode 5, Shane's mother sees him. They talk.

Shane collapses into Ilya’s arms after a game! Ilya, who can only watch as his boyfriend slowly dies in the hospital, is beyond devastated and desperate for a miracle. Fortunately, a surprise ally comes to help both boys! —————— “Shane is strong,” Ilya declared, snarling at the doctor like he was an opponent in a hockey game. “He will not die.” The doctor offered a kind, indulgent smile. “He’s almost settled in a room. I’ll send a nurse to get you when you can see him.” The man went to leave but stopped just outside the door. “Just so you’re not surprised… He’s a little confused, probably from the fever. He’s not making much sense.” “In what way?” David asked. “He keeps talking to someone—a woman who’s not actually there.” “Who?” asked Ilya.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, Rozy.” That was a lie; he knew perfectly well what was wrong with him, he just wouldn’t admit it to himself. “I thought therapy would help, and I also thought winning the cup would help, but I guess we’re both just too fucked in the head for that.” Ilya laughs softly, nodding. or Shane Hollander studied through conversations, interactions, and therapy. or Shane accidentally gets diagnosed with autism
