It was awkward. What do you say to the boy your son loves when he’s awake in the middle of the night with a haunted look in his eye? Ilya looked nervous in a way that was difficult to place. She wondered if she should get Shane—the boy looked like he needed someone. He looked young, like he needed a mother. Yuna was a mother, and a damn good one if Shane was any indication. ~ How Ilya Rozanov goes from Yuna's son's archrival to her son's boyfriend to her favorite son. “Holy shit,” Shane says. He straightens and turns around with something cradled in his arms. “What is it?” Shane laughs, his smile bright. “Oh my god, he’s so cute.” “Shane, what did you pick up?” Ilya asks as he finally stands. He starts walking over, and Shane meets him halfway. “Look.” Shane’s voice has gone soft, his tone full of wonder. Ilya looks down to see a scruffy orange kitten curled up in Shane’s arms. He’s dirty and seems exhausted, not even fighting Shane as he looks up at them. OR The cat distribution system finds Shane and Ilya.

Devour was a good word for what Ilya wanted to do to Shane. Eat. Devour. Rolled off the tongue. But he hated that he could not think of an English word to convey the resonant, drilling consonants ringing in his brain when he kissed Shane with depth and hunger bordering on cannibalistic. The consonants in the Russian word that meant an act between consume and gobble up, with hard zh and rolling r sounds, were a crunch so delicious he could chew on it forever. Sometimes Shane felt like that. Like the crunchiest, most delicious hard candy in the mouth. God, the stupid fucking English. or Ilya thinks in English. With Russian subtitles.

Ilya stepped over the bags on the floor, shoes still on his feet and held the pink thing to Shane's face. “Look!” Before Shane could do anything a quiet “Meow” came from the fabric bundle and Ilya squealed in delight. “Did your hat just meow?” Shane asked, completely bewildered. Ilya snorted loudly. “Is not hat. Look! It's a kitty.” He held the bundle even closer and Shane spotted two black pointed ears and a tiny pink nose. Or: How Ilya and Shane became cat parents

Shane comes home tired and in need of some serious care from his husband. Ilya is more than happy to give him what he needs. Just a very fluffy oneshot of them being soft and happy. Light smut and even lighter angst. There were many things about Shane that Ilya loved more than the air he breathed. He loved the way Shane’s freckles glowed when he blushed, and god did Ilya love making Shane blush. He loved the way Shane’s walnut colored eyes glossed over when Ilya took charge, whether they were in the bedroom or simply when Shane needed the release of giving himself up to his husband. Ilya loved when Shane’s head lay on his chest and he could smell the clean scent of Shane’s shampoo, his ink hair lightly tickling Ilya’s cheek. He would run his hands through it, scrape his nails down Shane’s nape and feel him completely and utterly melt into him. There were too many things Ilya loved about Shane to name, but there was one thing that his husband did that made Ilya feel like he would lose his mind. Now, Ilya knew Shane would never approve of him saying that he had an oral fixation, but Ilya didn’t really know what else to call it. Shane just liked having things in his mouth… all the time. Ever since Ilya had known Shane, his husband always seemed to have something in his mouth, or at least seemed to relax when he had things in his mouth. Whether it was a hoodie string, a straw, the collar of his t-shirt, his knuckle, or even his bottom lip. Shane just was always sucking or biting something. Ilya didn’t really think much of it at first. Well that wasn’t totally true, Ilya always thought it was hot when Shane had something in his mouth, especially when they were younger. It was hard to sit there and watch Shane chew and suck on a hoodie string when it could’ve been Ilya’s dick instead. And lord did Ilya love when Shane sucked his dick. Ever since their first time together, when Shane was inexperienced and desperate, he was so good. Shane was always so good, especially for Ilya. It was satisfying when Shane would simply drop to his knees without being asked, his hands burning against the backs of Ilya’s thighs as he took Ilya’s cock in his mouth like it was second nature, like he belonged there. He certainly acted like it. Ilya never realized how much Shane sucking him off was for Shane as much as it was for him. Ilya never really thought about it back then, he was selfish and took Shane for granted and Ilya regretted it with his whole soul. But as they grew and their relationship grew and they stopped being stupid about their feelings, Ilya started to truly notice all of Shane’s little mannerisms. Ilya saw how much Shane loved to be good. He loved praise, he loved reassurance, and he loved being told he did a good job. When Ilya took control, Shane was allowed to simply be Shane. He wasn’t Shane Hollander the hockey player, he was Ilya’s Shane. So when Shane came home from his game, sweaty and tired, his bag hitting their wooden floors with a thump, Ilya knew, even before he saw his husband, what he needed. Ilya had seen the game, and had seen how hard Shane pushed himself for them to win. Ilya knew that even though they won, Shane would need him. “Shane?” Ilya called from the living room, muting the tv and casually walking over to the front door where his husband was leaning against the wall as he toed off his shoes. Shane was wearing a simple white shirt and athletic sweats, his eyes droopy and tired and his hair sticking up in wild places. “Hey,” Shane greeted, exhaustion dripping into his voice as he pulled himself to stand upright, wobbling a little as he did so. Ilya went to his side, a hand resting heavy and comforting on the back of Shane’s neck. He brought Shane into his chest, his husband’s cheek pressed flush against his bare flesh. “You played so hard tonight,” Ilya murmured into Shane’s hair and he felt Shane’s body go limp into his own. He was already braced for it and easily took his husband’s weight. “You made everyone so proud, made me so proud. You deserve rest, lyubimyy,” he stroked a hand through Shane’s hair and kissed the top of his head. Shane’s arms came up limp and heavy to wrap around Ilya’s waist, his hands splayed across Ilya’s strong back. “How do you always seem to know what I need?” Shane mumbled, into Ilya’s pectoral, his lips warm and soft on Ilya’s skin.

the hot mic heard around the world (or how hollanov broke the internet) by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-13
The hot mic incident was just the beginning.
Now the internet watches in real-time as Ilya’s Spotify playlist gets leaked (with NOTES), Shane attempts subtlety (narrator: he fails), they bicker about boy bands on late night TV, someone admits to having a ring for six months ON TWITTER, and approximately 20 different social media platforms collectively lose their goddamn minds.
Featuring: journalists having breakdowns, Reddit threads that require moderator intervention, TikTok compilations with 1.2M views, brand partnerships from Skittles, a plague of engagement speculation, and two hockey players who cannot stop being chaotic disasters on main.
The fandom was writing fic about them. Turns out reality is messier, queerer, and somehow MORE unhinged.

“It’s one of your superstitions, right?” Hayden asked. “Like my hat. It’s your good luck shirt.” Shane felt a chill run down his spine. He hadn’t thought anyone would notice. In truth, he’d barely noticed himself. It wasn’t something he was actively doing. It wasn’t like his weight circuit or his diet or his night routine. It wasn’t meditation or yoga or cross-training. Those were all things he did with meticulous, painstaking purpose. This was just… this was something else. This wasn’t thought driven. If he was being honest, it barely had to do with hockey. It maybe was one of the only things in his life that didn’t have to do with hockey. If he was stressed, he wore the shirt and it made him feel a little bit better. It just so happened that most of the time he was stressed about something to do with hockey. That was it. It was just a feeling. A feeling of calm that came from Ilya Rozanov’s shirt. Shane has many routines. He has never hidden the fact that he treats his body like a temple; he's often seen sipping a green vitamin drink or practicing yoga. But his skin care routine is Ilya's favorite. Ilya finds it fascinating when his husband puts on a headband and applies countless creams. One day, inspired, Ilya decides to buy more headbands as a gift for Shane, and a new ritual is born: their couple's skin care routine. "You've turned me into a bore, Shane Hollander-Rozanov," he joked. "You love being boring, Ilya Hollander-Rozanov," Shane countered. "Wrong, I love you. Ya nye magú jêty bes tyebyá.” Ilya said quietly in Russian. As if it were something only Shane could hear. Ilya had few certainties in life, but this was one of them. He wouldn't live without Shane. After all, Shane is your heart, and you can't live without one. “Ya nye magú jêty bes tyebyá.”, with a heavy accent, Shane repeated what Ilya had said. Word for word engraved in his heart.

"Five years ago Shane had brought up the idea of starting a family. They’d been married for a year at that point and it was a discussion that had previously included phrases such as: “Maybe we could-” “Someday, if we decide to-” “I don’t know, but if we did-” They’d talked about hypothetical children. Hypothetical arrangements they could make for when they needed childcare for a game or practice. How many, hypothetically, did they want? In theory, what kind of parents did they want to be? What would discipline look like? Would they try to get them into hockey? What if they didn’t like hockey?" --- Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have been fathers for four-almost five years now. Every year the NHL posts a promotional 'Fathers' Day' video of famous players and their kids. Yuna finds out they've never been invited, and that simply will not do.

hot mics and hotter rivalries (or how i learned to stop worrying and let my boyfriend out us on national television) by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-10
Shane Hollander is going to murder his agent.
And he means that literally. Because his agent is the reason he’s currently wearing a hot mic during Hockey Night in Canada. Against the Ottawa Centaurs. Against Ilya.
Ilya, who has no filter. Ilya, who thinks workplace professionalism is a hilarious suggestion for other people. Ilya, who has spent a decade perfecting the art of saying absolutely unhinged things to Shane on the ice, safe in the knowledge that nobody can hear him.
Ilya, who definitely doesn’t know about the microphone.
What follows is sixty minutes of Shane’s life flashing before his eyes while his secret boyfriend enthusiastically discusses their sex life, their broken furniture, and exactly what he wants to do to Shane after the game — all broadcast to millions of viewers.
The problem? Shane can’t get a word in edgewise to warn him.

Ilya closed his eyes. His head was hurting even more. His back too. Had he hurt himself on the ice? “You are a liar.” He felt the couch move as Shane leaned over to flick him in the ear. “Ow,” he complained. “Stop being an asshole.” “Leave me alone.” Ilya ran a hand over his face. Even his own hands were too warm. “I have headache.” He opened his eyes to see Shane looking at him. He had little crinkles above his eyebrows. The one on the right side was deeper than the left. That meant he was worried. Or Ilya's feeling under the weather

“Hm. Interesting,” the nurse stated as Ilya shifted in the bed. “You had a spinal cord injury four years ago, correct?” Ah, shit. “Yep,” Ilya shifted again, looking directly at the nurse. His eyes flickered but he didn’t look away from Ilya. “And, according to the paramedics, you fell directly on your back. Your head hit first, according to what the bartender who called emergency services said. So, I’ll ask again. Are you feeling better, Mr. Rozanov?” After an injury that took hockey away from Ilya, life doesn't seem to have anything much to give him. Little does he know, his attempt to get out of life ends up being the reason he stays in it.

Ilya Rozanov has three problems: 1) he’s an NHL superstar 2) he’s hopelessly in love with his supposed rival, and 3) apparently writing fanfiction about it has cursed him with biblically proportionate bad luck.
Between engine failures, fractured ankles, choking incidents, apartment floods, broken noses, fire alarms, and getting stuck in elevators, a reasonable person would stop writing.
Ilya Rozanov is not a reasonable person.
